80. "I see what you're saying, but in the case of Memento and Magnolia" In response to In response to 77
I have yet to run into the problem where the person who loves those films also loves the same things I'm into. For a reason.
Yeah, our tastes definitely might match up in other spots, but when I DO turn them onto something like Perfect Candidate, they're not really feeling it, and when they turn me onto some cheese drama, or some recent Woody Allen or some shit, my eyes are glazing over, too.
I mean maybe it COULD happen, but I'm still waiting for that day to come.
I'll still listen to what that person has to say about different things to get a deeper sense of where they're coming from, and I might even watch some movies they and other people recommend, but I'm NOT trying to turn them onto shit I'm really feeling. If I come at them really hard going on about Shortcuts this, Shortcuts that, Robert Altman is a genius yadda yadda yadda I would be fully prepared for them to be like, "It was okay -- but what are you so excited about?"
And truth be told Memento just makes me suspicious, but Magnolia is a universal deal breaker.
But I mean the main thing? It's NEVER happened where a huge Magnolia fan was really upping me on some shit outside of my typical view.
