As winter draws near and the sun begins its descent only to die and be reborn (winter solstice), the creatures on this planet (including humans) find this time favorable for hibernation, contemplation, meditation and reflection. If one thing on Earth has proven to be continually universal amongst human beings is the sacredness of this season. For the entire month of December, a few okayplayers decided to do a thread on a source of wisdom that has been of use to US for ages. WE decided to post proverbs and sayings from a few OUR ancestors from a land now called Afrika.
Because of the diversity and vast array of wisdom from OUR ancestors WE can only present a minute fraction of the endless pool of knowledge. The posts of wisdom will be coupled with possible intepretations of their meanings but will by no means be absolute. When looking at any Afrikan proverb, one must realize that many do not simply contain only one message. Many contain a mulitude of meanings left for the seeker to find. If you have any proverbs to offer by all means list them to share with EVERYONE. And if you would like to interpret any proverbs then feel free to do so. Take what you can gain and leave the rest. If it is sweet, or if it isn't sweet, let some go and let some come. Going and coming is a game.(<-Akan proverb)
