I had gone to all Black head start and kindergarten so 1st grade was my 1st all day experience with White kids. This White kid named Wayne and myself were like the top students in the class. Always competing on them spelling tests. This lady would ALWAYS make sure that he stayed one step ahead of me. I knew it, Wayne knew it, she knew, and my parents knew it. I actually took that ish as a challenge as a shorty dough! She was REAL disappointed when I did well enough to be in the top reading group. Funny thing is that by highschool this kid was a school skipping kid heading for nowhere. Meanwhile I went on to do the honors and college thing! I've always wanted to go back to her and ask what Wayne's doing now! I'm sure she's deceased now 'cause this was back in like '77 and she was old THEN.
