When I was about ten years old, my parents took my sister and I to the "rich neighborhood" to go trick-or-treating. I made an interesting observation: at EVERY SINGLE house, my sister was given the candy before me. Even if I was standing in front of her, they practically went out of their way to do this. Let me also explain that my sister and I look nothing alike. We are both half Native-American and half Filipino, but she looks Caucasian. She has very light skin. I am brown. (In elementary school, kids thought that we were best friends and not sisters because we "hung out" so much). The ONLY house that I received candy at first was the only African-American house in the neighborhood. Just an observation. Another thing: My mother has an accent: she's Filipino. Sometimes sales clerks act like they can't understand her, when she's speaking perfect English. Sometimes it seems as if they fold their ears as soon as they hear the accent. Or, better yet, they will think that my mother does not understand them. Peace love empathy }}i{{
