TETRACTYS
Tetractys should express a complete thought, profound or comic, witty or wise using 20 syllables. They can be written with more than one verse but each subsequent verse must invert the syllable count. There is no limit to the number of verses. The structure is:
Single Tetractys: 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 (creating a triangle shape) - can be inverted as 10, 4, 3, 2, 1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ cinquain?The poetic form (5 lines of free verse: 2, 4, 6, 8, 2 syllables each) was developed in the early 20th Century by American poet, Adelaide Crapsey (1878-1914), whose brief cinquain series was published posthumously in her book titled "Verse."
