Yea, I'm one of those peeps that get disgruntled when i hear those overplayed "mainstream" joints. As for the Q-tip joint, i only heard it as a low quality realaudio file, and it probably wasn't the whole thing either...But i do feel y'all when "one of ours" makes a "club" joint...Like "what the heck????" But my feeling is that, we can't really expect any of these artists to make what we want. I mean it's their music, and if it's for the love or for the dough, it's their decision. I mean it can be cool to state your opinion to let the artist know the deal, but we can only complain for so long...There are other artists out there, sometimes it just takes more work to find what ya want, maybe even takin' risks on buyin a CD or tape of an artist you ain't heard before. Cuz i know I ain't dependin' on the radio much nowadays. Who knows why Tip would make a more club friendly joint if that is what it is. But it's out and if you don't like it, then you can pass it up. I understand that Tribe is classic, but nowadays "classic" doesn't get played as much on the air round here... I know, i'm disappointed by that too...but think about it...if there was no mainstream, then there probably wouldn't be an underground full of hungry artists...or if the Roots got played 24/7 on the air, would we appreciate the album as much, if the stuff was bein rocked on MTV like Backstreet Boys? I mean I think TFA is tight, but if it got stuffed down my throat, then i probably wouldn't be as pumped as i get when i throw the CD on. Anyway...the choice can be ours..if your favorite MC ain't comin with it...there's other stuff you can pick up..or you can throw on their past material..it just takes work...but i do wish it didn't have to be like that sometimes, but oh well..it probably just makes me more appreciative when i do hear a dope jawn.
peace in Christ,
Derrick
http://www.syntaxrecords.com
