Since no one else has validated it by playing it on the radio, he can't open his mind to it. A song by a "legitimate" artist can blow up, but the same song by an unheard of or (insert adjective here meaning not getting radio play) artist will not be felt by many because it does not "count". Pharoah Monch said something like "why must something be considered dope just because it's played on the radio 20 time perday" on stress (probably got the quote wrong, but you get the idea).
