if you could, tell me what
>you think of the following
>songs (written after 88):

>Come
>Space
>Dark
>Letitgo
>Billy Jack Bitch
>I Hate U
>The Same December
>Sex In The SUmmer
>The Love We Make
>Ripopgodazippa
>Acknowledge Me
>Interactive
>What's My Name
>Strays Of the World
>Days of WIld
>The Entire TRUTH Record
>The Greatest Romance Ever SOld
>I Love U but I don't
>Trust U Anymore
>Come On
>Mad Sex
>The One
>Wasted Kisses
>Freaks on this side
>The Exodus Record

well this is suspect already. cause i can name better post 88 shit than this:

-the future
-joy in repetition (so what if it was recorded earlier, when was it available legal to the public?)
-money don't matter2nite
-sweet baby
-and god created woman
-i hate u (on your list)
-dreamin about you (call it sap but i love this sap)
-most of the truth album

>There are still great songs coming
>out of this guy.

but prince was a revoulution (big pun intended) and it was more than just the songs that made him the shizzznit.

-instrumentation and execution of such instrumentation
-engineering
-songs themselves and the arrangment of voice and music (listen to all the small parts of "what time is it?!?" for best example: lil synth lines during "the walk" skits. basswork on dialouge at the end of "wild and loose". piano chords on "giggolos...")
-patches of his instruments.

mad shit went into prince's work.

mad shit that ain't been there since.

that linn drumm shit was his for life. that was his sound!
those synths? timeless like a motherfucker. still his.
and songs?

what u gonna tell me "the work pt 1" can fuck with "let's work"?

nigga please.

>No, the xpectations of a lot
>of people. After Sly
>came Prince and Rick James.
> After Prince... is there
>anyone to come? As
>many publications say, D'angelo is
>next. Try not to
>act as though you don't
>what I'm talking about.
>Please. You know, who's
>gonna carry the torch next.

well d aint saying that shit. and if magazines are saying that (how many lists exclaimed this album is the shit? how many?!?!)

after every critic says it.
after the voting academy says it.
and crowds in concert have told us this
and our peers in the industry have told us this.
3 million people worldwide.
and prince himself?

what u expect me to say "awww damn we better go back to the drawing board cause this okayplayer cat from canada said we aint shit."

>Okay, name a "zillion cats" who
>are um... losing sleep over
>voodoo!

-time magazine
-rolling stone
-spin
-village voice
-pos, creator of 3 feet high and rising
-qtip. creator of the low end theory
-rick rubin, creator of def jam records
-eric clapton, member of the groundbreaking power unit cream
-chris rock, comedian's comedian
-carlos santana, guitar hero
-athur baker, co-inventor of bass music
-beck, hardest working slacker poster boy in music
-janet jackson, nasty girl
-dego, member of 4hero, also man who gave birth to what we now call drum n bass
-bobby byrd, soul pioneer. robin to james brown's batman big hit "i know you got soul"
-marcus miller, bass monster partly responsible for increase in population during 80's because of his luther vandross career peak colaborations
-paulina de costa, percussion player who has grace over 7,000 albums
-jerry hey, horn arranger, member of seawind unit who blew horns all over quincy jones's 70 and 80's work namely michael jackson's "off the wall" and "thriler"
-michael jackson, soul genius who's office has called several times for production work for new album
-willie weeks, bass player who's 70's body of work too numerous to mention. shining moment is 3 minute bass solo on donnie hathaway's live rendidtion of "everything is everything"
-stevie wonder, soul genius who's love for d's work runs so deep that he is known to sing whole album sides to d on the phone to demonstrate his admiration for his work
-hank shockley, member of the bomb squad unit that gave you the greatest produced album of all time "it takes a nation of millions to hold us back"
-prince, man who can do no wrong.

not to mention the numerous times that mary, manager of electric lady studios reminds us that this album had singlehandedly brought 90% of the business electric lady gets......it's like a selling point requirement. every a and r wants the same studio room, same engineer, same backline, same mics and patch chords as the ones d'angelo has used on voodoo. no lie. wanna know why the new maxwell record is being held up? wanna know why i can take 2 weeks off to go to europe cause i can't even get into my beloved A ROOM in the east village new york? wanna know why my demand as an ENGINEER (FOR GOD'S SAKE, ENGINEER, not drummer, not producer, but ENGINEER!!!!!) is rising?

not to mention the slew of neo-soul records over saturating the market.

but should that matter? i mean, sure the people above have cried, stalked, exclaimed, proclaimed that this album has changed their whole thinking as far as music is concerned

I am common
>folk.

i should end this post after that remark. admiting it is the first step to recovery however.

> When I first heard
>the Controversy record, I was
>blown away by how "cool"
>it sounded. I loved
>hearing the Prince-ly noises.
>The ones that seperated him
>from the others. I
>think you know what I
>mean.

you mean like the noises d established for himself? like the kalimba sound, or the drum shits?

>
>Name five amazing songs on Voodoo?
