what Mos himself said - its part of his CATALOG - he's not a 'single' way. With this album he expanded on what he said about MUSIC in general, on BOBS. he said WE (blackfolk, sorry my fellow lighter ones) created most of this ishh. Why not get into & jam in other genres?
I don't have an issue with the album - its DOPE - Mos's mystique over time has created space for this fool to get down any way he pleases - he's gon' still have an audience. The fact that he's expanded himself into other mediums shows he's interested in expanding - this album reflects that. & naw, i doubt he's given up on "traditional" 16bar/4-beat bangin either - NOT the point of this album.
I am in agreement though, the album is more of a BJJ project - that's FINE, as long as everybody gets props. It does come off as a more relaxed, freestyle enviroment. He's gonna perfrom at BlueNote nextmonth - you can beleive there won't be DATS there, just musicians doing what they feel that night or week.
Really, as Common did, Kwe tried to do, the Roots do regularly now, they all seem to look as hip-hop NOW
NOW
as being a vehicle for them to expand its current sound & way. They did it one way back then, & are coming on a new way now - fuk it, i'm down w/that. They all said, hip-hop (KRS & many others say this too) is a lifestyle - there ain't real specifics to how you live that life.
That said, these mufuccckkkkkkas are trying to get the wheels rolling on the NEXT level y'all. They seem to keep in mind, "Where are we taking this shit today to, TOMMOROW?" This is isssshhhhhhh for y'all kids to crate dig & discover over spacey blunts in 25 yrs yo. Can't hate on that.

Just sayin
Mentally universal. Physically eternal. The beautifull part of this? WE are.
