>-yeah people really need to stfu about troops in afghanistan >and need to realize there IS a difference. us going to >afghanistan after 9/11 is a logical and justified response.
except that there has never been one shred of evidence provided to link Al Queda with 9/11. a "secret dossier" was provided to Tony Blair to "convince" Great Britain to support the war, but it has never seen the light of day.
there was no "government" of Afghanistan harboring terrorists. it was a stateless country in the midst of a civil war - the Taliban controlled a significant part of the country but was not functioning as a government. the US chose to back the Northern Alliance, who is 2 degrees less oppressive than the Taliban, but is really just a different set of thugs willing to function as a puppet government for the US. the war will ensure access to Afghanistan oil and resources and Al Queda will continue to be the boogiemen living in the mountains that we use to justify endless war. you really don't think the greatest military power IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD could knock out the Taliban in over 2 years? of course, you could believe the line about the US military bringing peace, justice and democracy to a country near you...
about Tillman, I respect that he is willing to die for his beliefs. but just like a suicide bomber, I have no respect for his decision to kill. it's one thing to be a poor kid who joins up because he has no other options and is not educated about the reality of the military. but this fool? let's just say patriotism can really cloud your thinking.
