>My stepfather retired after 20 years in the military, I have >several uncles that enlisted in the past, I got an uncle >that is currently in Kuwait, as well as a cousin in >Afghanistan. > >I KNOW why they went in the military, and I do know a >semblance of military life. I looked at it, and simply said >it's not for me. But that doesn't make me disingenuous to >the military, because doing so would be dissing my family as >well.
But that's what you do isn't it?
I didn't say not joining the military makes you disengenous, I said that claiming that everyone in the military joined because they wanted to "Make the Military Their Life" is.
Obviously, your exposure is limited if you believe the party-line that everyone who enlisted did so out of patriotism and a desire to become militarymen/women.
Your relatives do not the military make.
>And just because you entered the military as a job >primarily, does not mean your life does not encircle it, >which is what I was saying.
No, you made an incorrect statement related to the reasons why people join the military.
Pure & Simple.
Like Afkap said: "The Stories No One talks about" those are the reasons a LOT of people join the military, not out of Patriotism.
If people joined the military out of Patriotism, no one would question why yours truly, the Lawyer's Son, joined when he was 17 - remember, these are other people who are already in the Army & Marines asking me this, not civilians.
>But of course, people like you make assumptions and THEN try >to state them as facts. Get off of your high horse and stop >trying to talk about things you don't know, particularly >when it comes to my life.
Touched a nerve did I? Face it, you're talking out of your ass again.
I simply pointed out that trying to say that everyone in the military did so out of patriotism or a desire to become military men is 100% false, as many do so because of a lack of options.
Presenting your "I have relatives in the military" resume just makes you look even MORE misinformed, as you should know better than to try and claim that enlistment = patriotism or desire to live a military life.
The "fact" I presented was that your initial statement was WRONG and indicated a lack of knowledge or exposure to military people - listing your military relatives just makes you look worse or at best, rather naieve.
My advice is to start presenting cogent arguments, so you won't have to throw tantrums when people call you out.
