"stupid mac won't read fat32 formatted ipod. any suggestions?"

so i bought a new HP laptop recently, after having used macs for the last few years. i reformatted my ipod in fat32 in order to transfer all my files from my mac onto my new pc...but now the mac won't read the volume. it recognises that it's there when i open disk utility, but as far as being able to use it...no.

argh. i'm sorry. i know right now i'm one of those ignorant people who complains about the computer being stupid when it's most likely actually me. but seriously. stupid bloody computer. i thought macs were supposed to be able to handle fat32?

some stats:

the mac is running 10.2.9 (i know, old...but this was my backup rather than my main computer)
and the pc is running vista. i formatted the ipod by typing the format fat32 command into the Run utility, and that all seemed to work fine.

anyone got any ideas?
