In the order I got em:
PSP (launch day)
Got a PSP on launch day because I thought the DS seemed retarded and it was the most amazing graphics on a portable I'd ever seen. When the price was announced, I initially balked because it seemed like WAY too much for a portable. The day it was released I didn't have school and I picked up my girlfriend at the time, who heard it came out and said she'd get it for me if we could find one (thinking that it would be sold out). We found one pretty easily and she actually copped it for me. I was initially very satisfied with it, but it had a pretty serious draught after a great launch, and I needed a new portable fix...
DS (summer 05)
...which led me to the DS. I played the Warioware demo in Target and got hooked. I also knew Castlevania was coming and that I'd want that, and my girlfriend at the time got me that, too.
360 (launch day)
I was pissed when it was announced because I was still enjoying my Xbox, so I wasn't planning on getting it. I eventually got caught up in the hype and really wanted Perfect Dark Zero, which I'd been looking forward to since it was announced for Gamecube. I waited overnight to get one, and once again, that same girlfriend copped me that (in retrospect, she was pretty nice). I was VERY disappointed at first with PDZ, but felt a lot better after playing Geowars and Condemned.
Wii (a week after launch)
After the DS started getting amazing game after amazing game, I was really sold on Nintendo. They were making a ton of shit I wanted to play, and even though the Cube didn't have that many titles, the great games it did have kept my attention. I was gonna get the Wii on launch day (since Nintendo themselves told me they'd have plenty) but couldn't get one until a week later. I waited up all night on Black Friday and ended up getting one from EB games. Played the fuck out of Zelda and have really enjoyed it for Virtual Console. Very satisfied with it so far.
PS3 (fall 07)
Wanted one from the gate, but with no cakey girlfriend, I didn't have the money to get one on launch day. I ended up getting a decent paying job a year out of college and decided to get one after the first price drop and once Sony started announcing they were fucking with the backwards compatibility. Reminds me a lot of the PSP minus the great launch in that it's been slow to build a library, but even though it has, people still keep repeating that "it has no games" nonsense.
I'm on my 2nd purchased 360 (got an arcade with HDMI when the price dropped in anticipation of getting a new TV), 4th PSP (girlfriend lost the first and I replaced that, then upgraded to the PSP-2000 then again to the 3000) and 2nd DS (regular to Lite).
