And my entire point was that I want to see HOW they do it. TV relies on the Nielsons, which cover maybe 25,000 households out of the literally millions in the US. Does the NPD work on a similarly small scale with large estimates? Who the fuck knows...which is why I'd like to read something examining their methods.

Yes. Standing around for ten minutes in each store is a great way to see how things will play out. I bet that's why the Amazon top 20 always perfectly mirrors the NPDs.
