Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Sep-12-26 12:53 PM
Doesn't look like OU took this game seriously
2819185, he can deliver on playcall Ws
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Sep-12-26 02:14 PM
but he doesnt have the accuracy to beat UMs secondary in good coverage.

81 on the hitch and go was already running free when it was thrown, but he doesnt have the arm to sit back and pick that secondary apart
2819186, LMAO 2 seconds after I posted
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Sep-12-26 02:15 PM
just doesnt have the throw game to beat these DBs
2819188, he can't deliver on anything
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Sep-12-26 02:33 PM
he's dreadful

mich did the smart thing and ran underwood finally. that's their offense going forward.
2819189, i was still salty about the TE hitch and go

Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Sep-12-26 10:26 PM
ryan day just is who he is at this point

too bad because this looks like a really really talented team and were lights out for most of the game

why the fuck didn't they just let them score at the end?
2819199, i never saw the OC vision
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sun Sep-13-26 08:57 AM
gassed up off of a mildly successful Matt Patricia reclamation project, Arthur Smith was a bridge too far

Patricia may have only been good under Belichick, but Smith was never good

2819205, the OC/DC's change but the blueprint for these meltdowns stays the same
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Sep-13-26 08:30 PM
the breakdowns occur in every phase of the game. it's been happening since 2019 clemson. same exact blueprint. at least last night we fed our alien wr instead of sitting him on the bench for the 4th string TE.

it never gets talked about, but if osu doesn't complete a 3rd and long to jeremiah and make their chip shot fg against ND in the nc game, then osu probably loses in the same way they did last night. neither game should've ever been close.
2819197, has any team missed as many crucial kicks as osu over the last 10 yrs?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Sep-13-26 12:19 AM
we paid this kid from baylor whatever ungodly amount of money these kids get nowadays and that kick didn't have a fucking prayer in the world
2819200, you'll never convince me Ryan Day is a good coach
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sun Sep-13-26 09:39 AM
and with how consistent OSU has been in my life I'm not entirely sure he even runs a good program but i'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that

but i am damn sure when it comes to lining it up on the grass and calling it, that mf is dogshit
2819201, the post before yours, then yours, tell a story in sequence
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sun Sep-13-26 02:46 PM
there are no good coaches with consistently poor special teams

by never having the crater season, every year is a lotto ticket of probability where eventually the roster and the coordinators will come together and win 3 in a row at the end of the season and he'll have another championship. avoiding that crater season is notable i suppose.

but there are no good coaches with consistently poor special teams
2819204, this is grossly underselling it
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Sep-13-26 08:21 PM
>. avoiding
>that crater season is notable i suppose.

Day has not just skirted mediocrity but has osu competing for a nc every single year. the rosters are consistently stacked and they kill it in every draft and their players actually ball out at the next level.

with NIL it's not really an apples to apples comparison but the talent level at osu has actually been upgraded since urban left and that's pretty inconceivable.

the fear isn't really a crater season but a crater 5 or 10 year stretch (or more) which just about every blue blood has experienced except osu. again, the coaching critiques are extremely valid, and the big game meltdowns have been beyond unacceptable but gotta give the appropriate credit, where it's due.
2819207, hes never going to get the chance to do that tho
Posted by cgonz00cc, Mon Sep-14-26 09:00 AM
if he has 2 seasons like Cooper's last 2 then he'll be out the door, and since the portal offers a chance to plug the holes before they start leaking, it would take a monumental fail to go 8-4 because Day will never be stuck with Stanley Jackson and Steve Bellisari

Bob Stoops used to drop an 8 win season every now and then, but that was before the best players on the worst Big 12 teams could join up.

i just think the inertia of present-day college football is too powerful for him to dip into 4 loss territory without some sort of precipitating catastrophe, and 10-2 clearly doesnt come with any consequences anymore. OSU's last 4 loss team under a full time head coach was 3 coaches and almost 25 years ago. theyve been in in the hunt literally every year since then. nothing about Day's tenure stands out from the other 2 guys except in a bad way in that hes the only one without an undefeated conference season with a Big 10 championship.

plenty of caretakers fall flat on their face, and hes kept the engine running, so he does get credit for that. but he didnt build the engine, and he hasnt been able to rev it up as high as either of his predecessors.

2819208, because he doesn't have an undefeated conf season?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Mon Sep-14-26 09:47 AM
>but he didnt
>build the engine, and he hasnt been able to rev it up as high
>as either of his predecessors.

that's an incredibly arbitrary and meaningless achievement and conf championships are trending towards extinction.

both of his predecessors had major pitfalls as well and did not field teams that had a legit chance to win the NC every single season. there's some serious revisionist history to suggest that those coaches weren't consntaly under constant criticism in the same way that day is. again, the talent level has been elevated since urban's departure. so i dont agree with your assessment at all.

also, what tressel built has as much to do with ryan day as lloyd carr's carryover to kyle whittingham. no program in cfb is entitled to year in year out success. bring in the wrong coach and it can be over in a blink.

PSU last year and oregon's trajectory this year show that you can't just pay a lot of money and put the uniforms on and go 11-1 or whatever.

the loss to texas was absurd but the team still has everything to play for. as upset as i am about the loss im not going to delete from my memory the first 3 quarters where osu looked like far and away like the best team in the country.

these losses are bad but everyone gets wayyyyy ahead of themselves by writing day off. it's been happening for years and it's just wishful thinking because from people who wanna see osu go down in flames.
2819211, so i was actually completely wrong.
Posted by cgonz00cc, Mon Sep-14-26 06:57 PM
what i said they didnt do, they did do in 2019, and it still matters but now in a good way, in that their accomplishments are all pretty similar.

but generally, its all relative
2819212, continued
Posted by cgonz00cc, Mon Sep-14-26 07:46 PM
edit: fat-fingered "post message" before i was done

what i said they didnt do, they did do in 2019, and it still matters but now in a good way, in that their accomplishments are all pretty similar. but its relative in that comparing careers that successful is inherently nit-picky.

clearly it takes a minimum amount of proficiency to keep OSU what it was when he took over, i just dont think its that high. he wins rhe games hes supposed to win, the talent means hes supposed to win the vast majority, and special teams & playcalling bugaboos derail a lot of the tossups.

2819218, ask kalen deboer how easy it is to keep the factory humming
Posted by 3xKrazy, Tue Sep-15-26 08:18 PM
>the talent means means hes supposed to win the vast majority

and who assembles the talent? who makes sure its the right talent, the right fit, and that the talent aren't complete shitbirds off the field? and then who develops that talent into nfl monsters?

oregon is proving how difficult this is despite having all the money in the world.

i don't think there's anything inherently different about osu relative to other blue bloods that makes them immune to down cycles. they've just had a succession of 3 really great coaches. fire day and hire the wrong guy and it could be over in a blink.
2819221, RE: ask kalen deboer how easy it is to keep the factory humming
Posted by tariqhu, Tue Sep-15-26 09:49 PM
truth be told, Saban was losing grip too. the last chip was 2020. he left with his legacy intact before it got starting losing 3-4 games each year.
2819203, Day has earned the coaching criticism w/these high profile meltdowns
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Sep-13-26 08:10 PM
>entirely sure he even runs a good program

but nobody has ran a better program on and off the field over the last decade than Day and there isn't anyone out there who makes me think they would do a better job in that regard.

the gold standard has been kirby but he hasn't competed for a NC in a minute and UGA has been a disgrace off the field
2819323, I agree
Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Oct-02-26 05:53 PM
but I just hate how he never puts his foot on the gas with a lead. this is college football. ring that fuckin cowbell, don't sit there with the "clock control" shit so early in the 2nd half.
2819206, It still blows my mind Ryan Day has a national championship lol
Posted by guru0509, Mon Sep-14-26 06:26 AM

if he doesnt lose that michigan game, that i sat in sub zero temperature for after a 7 hour drive from washington DC, i am convinced we dont go on that run.

he knew his ass was on the line and acted accordingly. now that the urgency is gone again, im afraid the bad ryan day has resurfaced..

he absolutely botched the Indiana and Miami games, both teams were very beatable if he wasnt such a bitch ass cowardly eunuch in big moments / drives

jack sawyer saved his ass with that strip sack td, otherwise who knows how that game ends after seeing what happened saturday

that being said, he runs a squeaky clean program, recruits amazingly well, and is a genuinely good person and won the 3rd natty of my life?

my days of calling for him to be fired are done

but my god, he is more conservative than Tressel, minus the excellent special teams.

Texas will be MUCH MUCH better by seasons end, as will we . I hope we get a rematch, this time with more players seeing playing time

Legend Bey only getting one meaningful snap is criminal.

This is a huge coaching failure before the start of the most brutal schedule in the country..

Hopefully he grows a pair

you get the elite nonconference win, then lose a home game where you outgained your opponent by 150 yards. that he did it by setting the aggression slider on an NFL-bound secondary allllllll the way to the left, is a perfect cherry on top
2819290, oklahoma is setting up to be an 8 loss team this year

some random thoughts about current college football

* So far I'm not impressed with our new offensive coordinator, I would much rather have Chip Kelly lol

*what happened to Ryan Williams? Two years ago he was mentioned in the same breath as Jeremiah, and now he's fallen off.

* Where did all the athletic tight ends go? We grew up with Shockey, Hernandez, Kellen Winslow 2, Heath Miller, Mercedes Lewis, Brandon Petitgrew, Greg Olsen, Brock Bowers, Vernon Davis , Jermaine Gresham, Bennie Joppru, Fred Davis etc

it seems like that position is extinct now, or at least in the way they were used (additional game breaking field stretching WRs that. can also hit and block)

*Lane Kiffin is the EPITOME of failing upwards. From being fired on the tarmac to king of Louisiana lol...I hope Ole Miss wins by 20

*the USC trojans have NEVER EVER made the CFB playoff, 12 years of just nothing lol...thats kinda mind blowing given the history / resources / talent pool surrounding them...they are out in DROVES this week in NYC bc of the game vs Rutgers, these fans are still incredibly arrogant but not in a michigan way

Keelon's under pressure. some of that is on the line. some of that is plays taking too long to develop. some on him holding the ball too long.

fsu looks a lot better in this game on both sides.

I knew this game would be tighter than the pundits. Daniels was the reason Auburn nearly beat Bama last year.

still need to fix the early sloppiness on offense. our dbs got cooked early too.

roll tide!
2819237, this game was only close because of the weather

2819265, I know Vols QB is young but dammit, why wont these QB’s throw it up
Posted by legsdiamond, Sat Sep-26-26 02:54 PM
and I know dude was under pressure but half the time its because he held the damn ball too long.

its under a minute left, just throw that shit and give someone a chance.

A check down with 21 seconds left is just dumb football. All those incompletions and now you want to complete a 2 yard pass on 2nd down that burned mad clock.

college football can be frustrating af. lol
2819266, is Sark not so great at coaching?
Posted by tariqhu, Sat Sep-26-26 04:10 PM

also, RIP -5.5 🫠

they should honestly score again anyways tho. theyre moving at will.
2819275, incredible. exactly what they deserve.
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Sep-26-26 06:05 PM
SO wasteful driving into scoring range and getting nothing, chickenshit playcalling on the last possession offensively, and a stupid personal foul on an incomplete pass to keep the drive alive

EXCATLY what they deserve smh

>and everyone would have said it was a great call, bc they made

I don't think any of this changes how awful that call was. We're playing to win the game not cover the spread. You need to let your offense win you the game there on 4th down.

Polar opposite but equally stupid was Riley going for it on 4th down at midfield with 7 min left. Need to make oregon go 90 yards and trust your defense to make a stop.
2819301, i didnt think they could win any OTHER way

also, watching my dude Gio Lopez ball out at Wake got me grumbling.

2819342, i liked mcafee for a while, but hes gone full caricature
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Oct-03-26 01:12 PM
he's doing "a thing" now, instead of just being the natural goof he was. Cris Collinsworth does the same thing in a different flavor, like hes trying to be the Dick Cavett of the NFL. that always resonates really badly with me, and mcafee is actually so far gone that its even too much for wrestling now.

Barstool has always been trash tho, and Portnoy doubled down this year with his participation in Israel slopaganda

played excellent football last week, and then turned into a pumpkin thats been ravaged by hungry squirrels

his private QB coach has a prominent name in prep circles here, and the way that Bryce and Dante were so unpolished at the start of college should be devastating to his credibility. remember Dwan Mathis? yep, him too.

Detroit deserves better, because the QB talent over the last 10 years has been absolutely incredible, and none of them have done a goddamned thing, except for CJ Carr, who was coached hy his dad (distinguished Detroit Catholic Central alum Jason Carr).

Dante Moore needed a whole ass year off of game prep to get his shit ironed out and Underwood will never have that

what amazes me is that this type of play has occurred across 2 decades and multiple staffs at SC: https://x.com/UnderdogCFB/status/2106560118125125983?s=20

disinterested and undisciplined west coast team in a friday late night game? Iowa gonna show up very interested.

only reason I haven't played it yet was because the line looked like it was going up to +3.5 after opening up at +1.5.

washington money has come in every single week and it's been hard to understand. minnesota went from +8 to +12 was which was totally crazy

I thought SC -7 was a crazy line too. Wash got the cover but I still think SC covers that spread 9 times out of 10.
2819381, just got 3.5 at -115 on 365

3/8 for 0 yards. How the hell?

it looks like he wasn’t ready but these days the pressure to play talent is sky high. Dude bailed on some clean pockets for no damn reason.

2819363, was mich a better coached team under moore?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Mon Oct-05-26 08:25 PM
somewhere on here there's a post by me predicting that whittingham's career at mich could look a lot like gary anderson and jonathan smith when they tried their luck in the midwest. so far that's looking pretty accurate.

either way i think we're seeing why utah was pushing him out the door.
2819365, on offense yes, on defense no
Posted by cgonz00cc, Mon Oct-05-26 09:33 PM
Chip Lindsey did a good job with the offense last year, Jay Hill is doing a good job with the defense this year

importing and installing the offense has been a disaster. Jordan Marshall ran 150/932/10 last year behind these OL when they were all freshmen, and Underwood was the QB then, so I don't see why he would be thr problem now. i dont understand what theyre even trying to do philosophically in the run game.

The defense tho is orders of magnitude better coached, and very good, so *something* is working
2819373, there are other intangibles though
Posted by 3xKrazy, Tue Oct-06-26 07:05 AM
I haven't watched every min of their games but the team largely looks in disarray
2819375, penalties have been a major issue but theres nuance there
Posted by cgonz00cc, Tue Oct-06-26 08:56 AM
presnap stuff is atrocious and is downstream of the systemic offensive issues

UM has been hammered with ticky tack holding penalties that i dont think are downstream of anything substantial, bc a lot of them have been BAD

personal fouls on defense, that cant continue. i assume thats tangential to the sort of identity they are trying to establish, but that aint the way. i think Jay Hill is a great coach, so this to me seems like the area most destined to get cleaned up.

special teams has been a roller coaster, but it looks a lot better if the kicker doesnt chunk the kickoff against Iowa, and Marsh hangs on to the punt Saturday. the punt and FG units have been good, the return team got hands on 2 Minnesota punts...there are successes in there.

to me the biggest intangible problem right now is what the state of the offense is doing to the rest of the team. to spend 40 mins of the game on defense, take a lead via the defense, and then lose for the second week in a row after giving up just 2 offensive TDs for the second week in a row, thats deflating.

its deflating for the defense, its deflating for the offensive reserves, and things are rife for finger pointing now.
2819378, whittingham just doesn't look like he wants to be there
Posted by 3xKrazy, Tue Oct-06-26 03:08 PM
perhaps I'm building my own narrative but that's the vibe I get.

I had whittingham as a high floor/low ceiling type of hire and expected some baseline improvement in the program with competent coaching but that hasn't been the case and overall they look a lot worse.

now you got these text messages coming out, underwood benched, and it just looks like a clown show.

all of the coaching complaints with underwood feels like a whole lot of plea copping. he's just not a good football player relative to the hype and that was evidenced early on.
2819379, i hadnt seen the texts when i wrote that but I acknowledged it
Posted by cgonz00cc, Tue Oct-06-26 05:34 PM
the state of the offense is causing problems within the teams. Marshall acknowledged they were real, and in it he says his OC disrespected Marshall's whole position group. also says Beck is causing problems for Underwood rather than the other way around, which is rather unsettling in all the obvious ways, but reassuring in the sense that there are no bad vibes related to the QB.

granted, the guys being left out of the offense (TEs) are probably most likely to come down that way, but i like to see the boys stick together.

>perhaps I'm building my own narrative but that's the vibe I
>get.
>
>I had whittingham as a high floor/low ceiling type of hire and
>expected some baseline improvement in the program with
>competent coaching but that hasn't been the case and overall

they only look a lot worse on one side of the ball to me. i reallze with the hyped QB prospect thats gonna stand out the most, but thats what I see.

>now you got these text messages coming out, underwood benched,
>and it just looks like a clown show.
>
>all of the coaching complaints with underwood feels like a
>whole lot of plea copping. he's just not a good football
>player relative to the hype and that was evidenced early on.

even admitting thats true, the RBs ran for like 1800 yds with 20 TDs last year with a less seasoned version of the same guy, and that guy wasnt even part of the run game. the offense isnt even functional enough for be "bad" bc its flat out broken.
2819380, I'm sure this is true
Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Oct-07-26 07:05 AM
>the offense
>isnt even functional enough for be "bad" bc its flat out
>broken.

but I don't see the point in differentiating between offense and defense...it all falls on whittingham.

and now you have off the field stuff and this is EXACTLY what you would've expected to tighten up under whittingham.

2819387, of course its his responsibility to fix
Posted by cgonz00cc, Thu Oct-08-26 08:00 PM
but his only transgression seems to be an OC thats flopping, and thats fixable in a way that deeper problems may not be

i differentiate because the latter would theoretically be affecting the defense as aell
2819390, this seems incredibly myopic
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Oct-10-26 11:22 AM
>but his only transgression seems to be an OC thats flopping

and whether or not its his actual transgression is irrelevant. he inherited a situation and either made it better or made it worse. right now it looks worse.
2819394, but there arent any other problems on the field
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Oct-10-26 01:58 PM
and none off of it as far as I know. the OC losing the locker room is an issue but its downstream of the real issue.

theyll either start moving the ball and scoring points or the OC will be replaced. he already shoed he will make a move when he moved on Ludwig, who he had a long history with. and for all of his problems here, Beck was an inspired hire for the situation KW was in at the time.

this problem just isnt what im going to judge him on. the response will be tho.

usually by now someone has separated themselves even a little bit but this year not the case

some random thoughts

1, i think dan lanning deserves some leeway, yes they choked like dying dogs in the sun, but he also lost his 1st round NFL draft pick QB to a concussion and Dylan Raoila is a rotting diaper in the california sun

I cant believe Dominic Raoila birthed such a corny ill prepapred football player (im sure hes a great kid off hte field) but he plays like a dumbass

if hes the starter vs TOSU I like our chances

2, Texas is horrible, Arch needs 3 more years, forget 1

I hope Ryan Day gets a chance at revenge in the playoffs bc that loss loooks bad now

3 That no PI call in the Alabama UGA game was disgusting and NFL levels of malfeasance from the referees

4 Kyle Wittingham looks DRAINED already, he was already old but that michigan pressure cooking got him aging even faster , I dont think he had any idea what he was getting into

5 Jeremiah Smith has Cris Carter hands, Michael Jenkins route running, Marvin Harrisons ball tracking, Devin SMiths deep play ability, Ted Ginns game breaking ability and Michael Thomas instinct to find the end zone

GOAT COLLEGE WR EVER, and he's not done yet.

even if you arent into sports wagering, i highly recommend sports wagering podcasts. they preview games SOOOOO much better than mainstream CFB media.

nitty gritty details, injury reports, advanced stats. i really only got into them in the last year, but so far im really into the action network shows.

2819445, I listen every week to the betting podcasts
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Oct-18-26 07:06 AM
and there are days like yesterday where i wonder if they are doing me more harm than good. quite a few plays I wouldn't have made that lost and several plays I would've made that won had I not been talked out of by listening to a million different opinions all week.

I played BYU +13 at the opener on sunday morning and then came back on ND -10.5 on saturday after getting spooked by every sports betting talking head telling me that BYU couldn't compete and that this was going to be a replay of their performances vs texas tech last year. dumb.

I get what you're saying in terms of the 'neutrality' of the betting podcasts but if you're not someone who wagers then I think listening to that element of the show would be incredibly annoying.
2819447, yeah ive gotta maintain my filter
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sun Oct-18-26 08:07 AM
my danger is them reinforcing my bad ideas, which start out as original to me lol

didnt let them talk me out of OSU or Ole Miss, but my confirmation bias settled me in to Utah and Wisconsin bets I made early and then held on to.

>my danger is them reinforcing my bad ideas, which start out
>as original to me lol

losing a play that i never would've thought to play but got talked into from a podcast is a really shit feeling.

utah and wisconsin were fine plays IMO. utah has been covering every week so why not ride it until falls off. you could argue that they showed some vulnerabilities vs kansas which was a game they had no business covering. i also played wisky +3.5. didn't get it done but that's life. I don't think it was a bad bet at all.

do you listen to the podcast with fallica and the 2 other dingbats? fallica's espn podcast with stanford steve was my fav but after fallica left for fox they had to disband. i listen to his fox show out of habit for some reason but it's almost comically bad.
2819454, yes i do but thats an entertainment show lol
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sun Oct-18-26 07:08 PM
not an information show. i have podcast time built in to work and its a fluff listen for an hour. i never heard the other one he was on

Action Network is the sweet spot for me because they drill down onto advanced numbers, but also maintain a lively pace and vibe.

the Action Network game previews used to have this graphical comparison of various advanced stats that used to tell me who to bet on basically. line yards, stuff rate, havoc rates, and more all for offense and defense for each team. if I had those back i wouldnt need to listen to any of these yahoos.
2819463, are you referring to the BBOC podcast?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Tue Oct-20-26 10:01 AM
I listen as well but find their usage of stats to be goofy and they're usually just cherry picking numbers to support their convictions which sometimes they go a little bit too hard on in an emotional sense.

they've also mentioned that they scour through local beat reports are as part of their research which i find to be pretty funny. I doubt any of this next level research is translating into higher win percentages and even if it does the difference is nominal and not financially worth the tradeoff of making it into a full time job.

they seem to whiff on games at the same rate that hobbyists do.

if i were ever going to let someone make my picks i would just follow Bear's contest entries, but i love that they get into a lot of games because i end up learning more about non-wagered games than I would from any TV show. the picks arent gospel to me but i like the comprehensive preview of the weekend even just as a watcher.

I get what you're saying in terms of the 'neutrality' of the betting podcasts but if you're not someone who wagers then I think listening to that element of the show would be incredibly annoying.

2819440, they started the season looking much better.

since they're playing better teams, they're looking a lot like the last 2 years.
2819441, i think A&M at home will be a good get-right

i dont think theyll be challenged much the rest of the way
2819432, Michigan misses Sherrone Moore
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Oct-17-26 04:29 PM
not as a person obviously, but he was an elite OL/RGC

all that work he did for 8 years culminating in switching from gap to outside zone with a freshman OL and backfield running for 210 per game and 9 wins last year, and Beck flushed it all down the same toilet Moore flushed his life.

anyways, this OC has lit his entire career on fire just so he could run HIS stuff, and its trash. just bring in an established professional who builds off of outside zone and hope theres muscle memory left with the players, assuming some stick around.
2819433, oh jesus christ.

i hope this ends wayyyyyyy better than i believe it will
2819434, oh NOW they cut the rhino/jet shit out of the offense lol

2819455, was the offense significantly more impressive with carr than underwood
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Oct-18-26 11:01 PM
indiana only laying 6.5 looks short given what ive seen from the mich offense with underwood
2819456, No. The one thing that was more impressive was the O line, but
Posted by soulfunk, Mon Oct-19-26 07:28 AM
that seemed to be more about us running less rhino package in the second half and also PSU not fully stacking the box like everyone does against Underwood. Also the team in general had more energy after the change.

In terms of offensive results, the flip in the turnover margin and us having short fields to work with was why we scored in the second half after nothing in the first. (Along with time of possession killing us in the first half - PSU held the ball almost the entire first quarter on their first drive followed by us going three and out.)
2819459, so then the spread is kinda weird
Posted by 3xKrazy, Mon Oct-19-26 09:21 AM
is the plan to rotate qbs or is carr the guy now?
2819462, there is no indication either way

2819470, i guess
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed Oct-21-26 01:37 PM
but when the #2 QB lines up in last year's formation, and hands the ball off to the #3 RB, and last year's base play goes for a 43 yard TD its hard for me to believe theyve accomplished anything with this switch. they didnt go for 7 yoc in the second half because PSU all of the sudden felt they needed to back up their secondary.

if i were a more cynical person i might even consider the idea that they dusted off OZ out of 11 personnel to build consensus for the idea that the QB was the problem and not the playcaller
2819461, turns out 5 eligible receivers is a positive thing! lol
Posted by cgonz00cc, Mon Oct-19-26 12:46 PM
you cant stack the box in 11 personnel if Hogan Hansen is out there as the only TE
2819457, No. The one thing that was more impressive was the O line, but

2819460, no. the playcalling was better, so there were explosive runs

Carr's passing was blah, but his feel for the option was good, and the OL got to do what they do out of sensible alignments. reach, combo, climb, profit.

that being said is IU going to score 20? OSU defense rush EPA is dead average (62) and they held IU RBs to 25 carries for 70 yards. Michigan is 8th, and 11th against the pass. success rate UM is 7th overall. IU was 1/10 on 3rd down against Nebraska, and got massive chunk TDs to win, coming off a semi-miraculous 29 against NW,

i have no confidence in IU scoring 3 TDs against an elite defense. if you think UM can score 2, youll take that 6.5 with a smile. if you dont, you wont.

also Hoover showed some of his old tendencies on Saturday. i dont think IU can win at all if he's going to throw 40 passes, bc at least one will be going the other way.

after saying all that ive convinced myself IU -6.5 is trap.
2819464, i dont know what mich D has done to prove they're elite

>after saying all that ive convinced myself IU -6.5 is trap.

but the -6.5 certainly seems like a trap

i do think there's quite a bit of a coaching edge here though.
2819465, the profile is the profile halfway thru

Rush D EPA: -0.160 (9th)
Pass D EPA: -0.023 (11th)
Pass D success: 33.3 (11th)
Rush D success: 32.3 (13th)
yards per play allowed: 4.0 (1st with equal home road splits)

Indiana hasnt seen that yet on both sides of the ball. 50+ places separate OSU and Michigan in rush EPA, and OSU improved coming off that game.

Top 5ish elite, no.

Next 5ish elite, yes.

One potential trouble spot, UM is down at 27th def pass efficiency because of a few coverage bust TDs. that will be a concern. but overall this will be the best defense theyve seen this year, and theyve scored less than 22ppg in conference play. FD is offering a team total of 24.5, and thats not deserved imo. not betting the game even tho thats a really juicy 7.5 im looking at, but im actually going to play that under right now. debating a 24.5 - 21.5 - 19.5 ladder.

definite coaching edge on the other side, but not an edge thats going to help them score points.
2819467, and this is where stats get goofy

mich has only played one game away from home (which was a loss) and the best offense they've faced was...Iowa? way too premature to label them as anything at this point.
2819471, perhaps

i just dont think this QB and this running game is going to be the team that scores 3 TDs or more

2819444, the least satisfying 'big win' i can ever recall for osu
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Oct-18-26 06:59 AM
it's great to get a win in indy over the greatest coach of all time who was never going to lose again. but right now osu is a sloppy, poorly coached team being propped up by one of the greatest cfb players of all time.

and injury issue aside, it's become suddenly very apparent that sayin is not the guy you want out there in these types of games. you also dont want an undersized true frosh out there if a NC is the goal.
2819448, no one wants to admit it was the stars

Ponds, Fisher, Black, Sarratt were all developed by this staff, but 4 1st team All Americans that you originally recruited to James Madison isnt repeatable

very good coach, very disciplined, very efficient but the talent were the unicorns, not the coach

for OSUs part, they have serious problems when you scale to the goals. without sayin, they could lose any of their remaining games.

edit: props to Smith for breaking a record i didnt think would get broken. would require a senior to stay when he didnt have to or a a true FR to dominate to get 3 seasons like that. Braylon was the former, Smith was the latter.
2819450, I was told here that Indiana didn't have any talent

there was also that after thought qb from cal they hit the absolute jackpot on

>very good coach, very disciplined, very efficient but the

will be interesting to see how they fare after they lose both coordinators after this season

>for OSUs part, they have serious problems when you scale to

it's an unknown. but I guess that's part of the fun. I don't think it's fair to judge fahey on the 2 very chaotic series' he got against indiana.

training and technique have outgrown the goal posts

raising and narrowing the posts is a change i maybe could get behind

2819476, not in Columbus

2819482, not in AA today either

BADLY missed from 32 yards out
2819477, that was quite a 2 play sequence with underwood and carr
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Oct-24-26 12:04 PM
yikes
2819478, 6 points off 2 turnovers. this is gonna be an ugly one.
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Oct-24-26 12:08 PM
some speculation that hoover has been injured (sayin as well). if not, he really sucks.

not sure what they're accomplishing by putting underwood in for obvious run plays when carr is probably a better natural runner
2819479, he really sucks

IU may wanna go to the backup if this is the best they can get from hoover

shocking that a new QB hasnt made a lick of difference!

still running the same jet wing TE bullshit

still NOT running the base play that got them a TD

still running 2 man routes

still NOT lining the RB up behind the QB

same old shit. Beck's a dead man walking.
2819483, Both of these offenses are so bad

If Julian sayin wasn’t so atrociiius last week we would have won by 3 scores
2819486, time to bench Keelon.
Posted by tariqhu, Sat Oct-24-26 04:31 PM
along with the OC. grubb is calling plays that take too long to develop and keelon is holding the ball when receivers are open. that pic was hero ball shit. this ain't high school.

last 3 games, no real adjustments on offense. defense can hold for water only for so long. that got you a pic 6 and a 2nd pic that wasn't converted into points. they're doing their job.

easy fix. speed up the game with shorter pass plays and run the ball more.
