2810862, 2024 World Series - No Small Markets Allowed Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Fri Oct-25-24 10:14 PM
Pretty well played game so far. Roberts did a Roberts thing and left Flaherty in one batter too long, but thankfully Shohei almost single handedly tied the game up in the bottom of the 8th.
The only thing I don't like is how the Dodgers keep swinging for home runs all the time. I know that's the trend now, but when they played small ball, they actually generated some offense.

2810863, Freddie literally lived The Dream Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Fri Oct-25-24 10:39 PM
Bases loaded... 2 outs... Grand SLAM!!!
|
2810874, As they said on the call THAT is the fuckin dream Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Sat Oct-26-24 07:12 AM
Shawn comes up to the plate. The dodgers are down one to the New York Yankees. That’s what we dream of.
Only 2.5 things to make it the ultimate version of that dream
Game 7 and a Full count. If you’re a diabolical asshole the Game 7 is at Yankee stadium and you stun the crowd. But winning in dodger stadium is it for most normal people.

2810864, what an ending Posted by pretentious username, Fri Oct-25-24 10:48 PM
The fact that teams have to decide whether or not to walk ohtani TO FACE MOOKIE BETTS… or whether or not to or walk mookie TO FACE FREDDIE FREEMAN is nuts, and a grand slam is such a fun result of that choice.
|
2810865, was surprised they didn't pitch to Betts. didn't like that move. welp! Posted by PROMO, Fri Oct-25-24 10:59 PM
|
2810866, I think they chose the player worse overall in the PS... Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Fri Oct-25-24 11:07 PM
... than the player having the worse game.
Then again, I can't think of too many situations where the opposing manager has to decide, "let's see. I have the choice to pitch to one of two batters. which former MVP is it?"
I see why fans hate the Dodgers.
|
2810878, I’ll be honest, I had more faith in Betts Posted by DJR, Sat Oct-26-24 09:33 AM
They wanted the lefty-lefty matchup, I’m sure. But also, first base was open due to Verdugo falling into the stands on his catch, and the runners being awarded the next base, making it runners on second and third. If that doesn’t happen, and first base isn’t open, I don’t think they walk Betts there? You don’t usually see that as much.
Betts hit the ball hard all night, he just hit it right at people and they made great plays on two of his hits. He seemed locked in, I was initially mad he wasn’t getting a chance to hit.
Freeman, I was hoping would drop a base hit into left field the way he’s done so many times the last decade. I was not expecting a grand slam, he hasn’t hit for power since he got hurt.
Just amazing.

2810873, Yea small ball dodgers are so good Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Sat Oct-26-24 07:09 AM
I wish they played it more with their ability to get on
|
2810875, this will be a back in my day moment... Posted by Dstl1, Sat Oct-26-24 07:57 AM
but, man...I miss small ball, in general. Growing up and getting into baseball as a small kid...watching with my grandmother and seeing the Whitey Herzog Cardinals play it. Get em on, get em over, get em in. That shit was exciting. It felt like there was tension, the entire at bat. The first time I ever saw a suicide squeeze, was the Cards. I was ASTONSISHED that you could do that...and don't even get me started on a double steal, lol. Pitchers literally couldn't concentrate when Vince Coleman and/or Wille McGee were on base...fuck and around and THEN make a mistake to Jack Clark and everybody is coming home. Yeah, man.
|
2810877, Yea man the tension brewing Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Sat Oct-26-24 09:29 AM
In the 6th and 7th when Dodgers got on and Yankees got out of the jam. Then the 8th when Ohtani got on and scored.
Jazz’s consecutive steals for a run.
That slow burn playoff baseball
|
2810879, Kike’s sac bunt last night was absolutely perfect Posted by DJR, Sat Oct-26-24 09:37 AM
Yankees were ready for it, and he executed perfectly.
Dodgers only struck out 4 times last night, that’s what I like to see.

2810876, One of the best sports moments I’ve ever seen Posted by DJR, Sat Oct-26-24 09:26 AM
I’ve probably watched the replay at least 50 times already.

2810905, Greatest baseball game I've ever been to Posted by justin_scott, Sat Oct-26-24 03:30 PM
loudest I've ever heard Dodger Stadium. No one wanted to leave after the game. I then went to a concert and got home and watched the game.

2810904, Get one MVP out, walk another MVP to pitch to a third MVP Posted by justin_scott, Sat Oct-26-24 03:28 PM
insane that a team can say they have three recent MVP's

2810932, I think this team can close out without Ohtani Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Sun Oct-27-24 07:42 AM
But what a blow. The win feels a little deflated. I hope that whatever they do they are considering both short and long term ramifications of the injury.
He’s in yr 1 of his contract. You’re halfway to a World Series. No decision is easy.
I know some people are mad he stole up 4-1- but considering how the game ended, an extra run would’ve still been nice.
Coming to NY Mondays game will be really cold - in the 40s, Tuesday may be similar and a little warmer, Wednesday would be nice.
I wouldn’t mine winning this series and closing at home, so just win at least 1 in NYC. Even better if it’s game 3 with Buehler on the bump.
I’d give nothing to Judge. Keep giving him off speed shit that moves out the zone or even walk him. Stanton in not consistently scared of, and Soto is gonna be tough as shit no matter what.
|
2810934, It’s still a dangerous lineup without him Posted by DJR, Sun Oct-27-24 08:53 AM
but yeah, it was a deflating moment for sure.
And honestly, closing in on that win, one of the reasons I felt so good was knowing Ohtani probably had a monster 3 run homer in him, coming up in one of these games soon.
Had me thinking going forward though - maybe don’t bother pitching him anymore? He gets hurt on the mound, which he’s already had two major arm injuries, and you lose him at the plate. His offense is too valuable. Or maybe don’t pitch him until late in the season, minimizing wear and tear on the arm and making injury far less likely?
Also, why the hell doesn’t he know how to slide? Arms go up, not down.
|
2810935, Need another clutch start out of Buehler in NY Posted by DJR, Sun Oct-27-24 08:56 AM
He was great against the Mets there last series. Need him to come through on the road again.
|
2811012, They got it! Posted by DJR, Mon Oct-28-24 11:02 PM
Great to see Buehler get it back at the right time!
|
2811020, I’d always give my trust to Buehler in a big game Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Tue Oct-29-24 10:07 AM
His mentality is ice so he can work through getting touched. I’m glad if we needed it- he was lined up for game 7

2811000, Freddie is fucking ENGAGED Posted by Dstl1, Mon Oct-28-24 08:00 PM
|
2811001, Masterful at bat by Mookie… Posted by Dstl1, Mon Oct-28-24 08:05 PM
it can’t be said enough how difficult it is to get your hands in that close to you and still get the bat around fast enough to barrel the ball up. Man, these dudes are good.
|
2811002, Dodgers are locked in right now Posted by justin_scott, Mon Oct-28-24 08:15 PM
Still plenty of time for NY (I hope they choke), but if the Dodgers win tonight, it's basically a wrap.
|
2811003, You cannot make a better throw to home plate than that… Posted by Dstl1, Mon Oct-28-24 08:51 PM
this shit over, man. Dodgers got the glow, lol. And I read today they are reportedly going after Soto. lol, imagine 40’ing a team in the World Series, then signing their best postseason player a couple months later.
|
2811004, Teoscar or Soto Posted by justin_scott, Mon Oct-28-24 08:59 PM
Soto is better offensively, but nowhere near as good in every other area. Teo better fit.
|
2811015, Soto is a generationally great offensive player, and is 6 years younger Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Tue Oct-29-24 03:11 AM
but he is going to command an astronomical contract, and Teoscar is already a great fit in LA, so he would make more sense for them.
|
2811018, stupid ass Mariners letting Teoscar and Eugenio Suarez walk... Posted by PROMO, Tue Oct-29-24 09:51 AM
is why we didn't make the playoffs.
it's fun to see Teo cookin (though I never want to see him play the field, lol).
|
2811023, You cannot NOT go after Soto Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Tue Oct-29-24 10:15 AM
if he's willing to talk.
Dude is generational. Not an all star, not an MVP, not even a basic hall of famer. He's got generational talent with the bat.
If the Dodgers close this out, they are playing with house money.
Teo is best friends with Ohtani and a great locker room guy, but CMON.
Soto at 26 provides instant 100x boost to the offense, and him being there fills any gaps over the next decade for when Freddie, Mookie, and Shohei decline or get injured.
If saying bye to Teo is the cost of that, it has to be done. It's not like signing him will make Dodgers have to give up on starting pitching or their bullpen.
|
2811007, if the Dodgers get Soto they need to put a salary cap on baseball Posted by will_5198, Mon Oct-28-24 09:40 PM
|
2811010, They won't. Posted by justin_scott, Mon Oct-28-24 10:23 PM
Teoscar means more, and they can't go after both. Soto isn't taking a team friendly deal, and he won't defer the money like Ohtani.

They could have fucked Mookies wrist, arm, shoulder up. How does anyone thing that's a cool thing to do? These dudes work too hard to get to this point for some entitled dickhead to infringe upon them doing their jobs.

like last year they had to piece it together w/ injuries. now they got a fucking allstar team
|
2814060, I mean… Posted by Dstl1, Sun Jan-19-25 12:04 PM
it’s almost unfair as it is to have to face Mookie, Ohtani and Freddie…who literally cannot be pitched to in the postseason. Now they basically have the 90s Braves pitching staff on steroids.
|
2814061, I fully expect half the pitchers to be unavailable by September Posted by DJR, Sun Jan-19-25 12:26 PM
>it’s almost unfair as it is to have to face Mookie, Ohtani >and Freddie…who literally cannot be pitched to in the >postseason. Now they basically have the 90s Braves pitching >staff on steroids.
That’s just the way it always seems to go. So I’m glad they’ve got so many of them. Go into the year with damn near 10 good starting pitchers, and maybe 5 will be healthy at the end and the rotation will still be great! lol.
Or maybe go another route. Don’t even start Glasnow, Ohtani (as a pitcher), Snell’s, or Yamamoto’s seasons until the all star break. Have them healthy and peaking come playoff time. Let the Millers and Gonsolins eat those April-June innings.

And it's not even that other clubs aren't willing or able to spend a lot. The Dodgers are just winning these negotiations with quality of life and a chance to win like the Lakers used to.

2814249, Had some extra spending cash, might as well buy another all star closer Posted by JayEmm, Tue Jan-21-25 01:05 PM
Kirby Yates (33 saves, 1.17 ERA) is also now a Dodger.
