2807416, An Undisputed Heavyweight Boxing Champ will be crowned 5.18.24 Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Fri May-17-24 06:44 PM
Oleksandra Usyk vs Tyson Fury will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Shout out to Turki Alalshikh for organzing some of the greatest fight cards, not only of this year, but ever in the sport (stay tuned for that Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov card in August).
Usyk has the IBF, WBA, and WBO belts after being Anthony Joshua twice. Fury still has the WBC that he beat off of Deontay Wilder. Usyk, having started at Cruiserweight, could go down as they greatest Cruiser ever if he pulls this off. Known as a clever, tricky, cerebral fighter, he's always found a way to win no matter what he was up against. He's the smaller size that usually gives Fury problems, but Fury looks very locked in and may have had his wake-up call being dropped in the Francis Ngannou fight that was supposed to be an easy win for Fury. Fury is also with Sugarhill Steward, who helped him turn his punches over and start getting KO's. He's the real secret sauce for Fury here.
I personally want Usyk to do it, because I've always liked him as a fight and a man. Fury is literally a tall order tho. He's not a just a huge guy at 6'9" but he's also a thinking man in the ring. Surely the most skilled guy boxing has seen at his size. I'm very interested to see how they both approach this fight. Fury has a huge ego, and Usyk fights for his country (Ukraine). Should be good.

2807417, Jai Opetaia vs Mairis Breidis 2 is the star of the undercard. Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Fri May-17-24 06:47 PM
Their first fight was classic. It was Opetaia's coming out party. This guy is the REAL.FUCKING.DEAL. Super quick, hits hard, great amateur pedigree, tough as nails. He kinda has it all. Breidis broke Opetaia's jaw in their 1st battle, but Jai pushed through and still won. Breidis is older now, so Jai just might stop him this time around. Whatever happens, a fight with Opetaia in it will be exciting. If you're a boxing fan who doesn't know him, please familiarize yourself.

2807423, Another amazing fight from these 2 Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sat May-18-24 05:04 PM
Mairis Briedis comes on late again to rally back in the later rounds, but it's not enough to close the gap, and both men end the fight with bloody faces. Same as the first fight. Opetaia recaptures the IBF title after being stripped for not facing Briedis again earlier. Jai says he's looking to become undisputed at Cruiser. These 2 fights with Briedis will be great learning experiences for the young man. Usyk vs Fury is up next.

2807418, There hasn't been an undisputed champ in 25 yrs btw. Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Fri May-17-24 07:17 PM
The last person to achieve this was Lennox Lewis in March of 1999.

2807419, thats crazy to me. i wouldve sworn a Klitschko did it Posted by cgonz00cc, Fri May-17-24 07:52 PM

2807421, One of them could've been, but they refused to fight each other. Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sat May-18-24 09:20 AM
Around 2011-2012, Vitali had the WBC title and Wladimir had the other 3 major titles. After Vitali retired, Wlad never fought for the WBC.

2807422, oh thats right...they shared it lol Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat May-18-24 03:35 PM

I got Usyk narrowly , but if its a draw I wont be mad, it was so fucking close

2807425, This fight delivered! Congrats to Usyk. Winner by split decision. Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sat May-18-24 06:53 PM
He came out strong, then Fury started to rally back and take control. Then Usyk has a HUGE 9th round where he beats the dogshit outta Fury and scores a knockdown (only the ropes held Fury up). It was a close fight, but most people I saw scoring had Usyk winning. I'm so proud of this guy. It couldn't have happened to a better person in boxing. Oleksandr Usyk is officially an all-time great.
Of course Fury had to be a piece of shit in the post-fight interview saying Usyk only won because people are siding with the country at war. I guess he can't accept that he actually got beat. That just makes Usyk's victory that much sweeter for me.

2807470, I will never side with a fighter who gives away rounds Posted by snacks, Mon May-20-24 10:30 AM
And complains about the decision
Fury shouldn't have played so much in those earlier rounds. Although he eventually started throwing, he was still on the back foot, which some judges will give to the other fighter
I do not feel sorry for him in that regard. Major props to Usyk! Very relieved I don't do a boxing podcast and don't have to do any mental gymnastics to debate who's best p4p, cause all three have very strong cases. I'm just glad the fights have been made these past few years

2807490, I don't side with Fury for many reasons lol Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Mon May-20-24 11:43 PM
But yeah all that playing in the corner and sticking his tongue out, trying to be a showman didn't work out well for him this time. I remember him saying Usyk was a "foreigner who don't speak good english", dont' bring no money and that the Heavyweight belts belong in the West. In that same interview, he said he wouldn't fight Usyk even if he beat AJ for the aforementioned reasons. So to your other point about the fights being made, we really have to be thankful for Turki Alalshikh putting up the bread to make these fights happen. We've seen some great ones with many more great ones to come, thanks to that Saudi money.
People are having these p4p debates now. I don't really care who ppl put at the top. Bud said on Twitter that you gotta put respect on Usyk's name for that and that he's no hater, so shout out to Bud. I've long said Crawford is my favorite fighter with Usyk being my 2nd favorite. That hasn't changed for me, but Usyk being 1st on the p4p list is understandable, considering he just beat someone 40 lbs heavier.

2807494, Lennox Lewis will always be the GOAT British heavyweight IMO Posted by guru0509, Tue May-21-24 03:24 PM
