2801088, 2023 NFL Regular Season Week 14: Throwin' in the (Terrible) Towel?
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Dec-10-23 01:03 PM
Guess who's bizzack??? Fresh from the Caribbean, reeking of jerk chicken and sweating rum. Let's get right down to business.

I'm seeing all the scuttlebutt regarding one Michael Pettaway Tomlin. Legs is taking damage for his criticisms and I gotta take a step back and keep it a buck and change...there IS something to what he's saying...shit gets stale after a while...in any situation. At the same time...the Steelers roster ain't really all that banging, man. I think both things can be true. Listen, man...there is a world where you don't have a stud QB, your offense looks shitty and you just can't score BUT you don't get absolutely macked by Bailey Zappe. That shit has nothing to do with the roster. That looks like folks are not prepared to play. Now, I know Ryan Clark is not the end-all be all of this discussion, but here's a guy who genuinely loves Mike Tomlin...as a human, not a football coach. These dudes are close, their wives are close, they support each other's kids and kick it at each other's homes. What he's saying here is not terribly different from what Legs is saying.

I dunno what's gonna happen in Pitt...if they freefall through the rest of the season, it might be a wrap. All that said...I'd push Mike McCarthy down an elevator shaft if it meant Mike Tomlin would be the HC of the Cowboys. On to the games, gents:

Sunday Early

Bucs @ Falcons

Lions @ Bears

Colts @ Bengals

Jags @ Browns (Trevor Lawrence IS gonna fight)

Panthers @ Saints (*vomits*)

Texans @ Jets (It was Zach Wilson all along)

Rams @ Ravens

Sunday Late

Vikes @ Raiders

Hawks @ Niners

Bills @ Chiefs (Sean McDumbass is on the verge of fucking around and finding out. They digging up shit to make him look stupid (he actually did that himself, they just kinda assisted. Yall see that shit he said right? Mofo gave the example of the 9/11 terrorists as a unit that communicated well to accomplish a goal. He really used that in a team meeting)

Broncos @ Chargers (Get Brandon the fuck outta here!! (c)Me/DNA

SNF

Eagles @ Cowboys (not much to say, really. You want the division? Here it is)

MNF - Doubleheader

Titans @ Dolphins

Packers @ Giants

2801090, congrats Bucs fans on your win

Arthur Smith hasn't won 3 games in a row since he been here. we got 2 starting linemen out, and Mike Evans pretty much has keys to the city of Atlanta. not a recipe for success

former Titans TE Frank Wycheck dies after falling in his home and hitting his head, Saturday morning. He was 52. Shit, man. We just drove by Nissan Stadium on the way home yesterday, passing through Nashville. Life is something. R.I.P.
2801096, damn rip

2801094, Lions need to fire and replace Aaron Glenn
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Sun Dec-10-23 01:27 PM
They arent reaching the upper level of the NFC until they get a new defensive approach
2801095, Lions defense is...something....
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Dec-10-23 01:29 PM
start slow, bad penalties. That's such a stupid, undisciplined thing Anzalone just did.
2801097, Bruh, I would gladly trade McCarthy for Tomlin
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Dec-10-23 02:07 PM
You guys like the quotes and the vibe of Tomlin. You arenā€™t thinking clearly.

Tomlin is a defensive HC. We have lost the last 4!games where we played teams who weren2-10.

We lost to Tim fucking Tebow dawg. You donā€™t want this.

Everyone kept saying once the Cowher players left Tomlin would be exposed. I called these white folks out for their racism and while most of them prolly are, it doesnā€™t mean they werenā€™t correct.

We are NEVER prepared vs good teams unless its AFCN teams. Its not because of coaching, its because these are the teams the players are most familiar with.

You donā€™t want this fam.

You donā€™t want 9 win seasons to keep the never had a losing season streak alive. The fuck is that streak good for if you arenā€™t winning playoff games? Just means you are picking in the 20ā€™s every year.

You not want Tomlin to handcuff your offense. Even when we had the Killer Bā€™s we only won a few playoff games and one was against the Bengals with a backup QB and we still needed Joey Porter to draw a penalty after a personal foul AS A COACH to get into FG range.

2801101, Guess i missed all the Playoff winning McCarthy has done lately
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Sun Dec-10-23 02:28 PM
2801107, Tomlin hasnā€™t won a playoff game in 6 years
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Dec-10-23 02:46 PM
yall sound spoiled.

I know you want a Superbowl but the fact you actually have hope, even if its falso hope and sarcasm.. you still play well enough to say ā€œjust maybe, maybe.. we can win THAT game and get to a SBā€

right now the Steelers are in ā€œplease, please.. pass for 200 yardsā€ mode right now.

2801108, I seriously don't get your Tomlin hate
Posted by The Real, Sun Dec-10-23 03:58 PM
He's legit had to coach the last 5 seasons hiding his QB. Maybe even more. You ride with Kenny Pickett, dude is trash! He's the Dollar Tree version of Alex Smith.

I'm actually rooting for the Steelers to dump Tomlin. I want you ungrateful fans to see how good you had it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2801109, The only part I'm weirded out by....
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Dec-10-23 04:02 PM
is that not even 2 seasons ago, he was marching in the streets with a pick in his afro, defending Tomlin against racist white Steeler fans who wanted him gone...now Tomlin ain't shit and he bringing up the fucking Broncos/Steelers game from 2012 or some shit as part of his argument. Make it make sense, Legs.
2801115, Yep, I remember all that
Posted by calij81, Sun Dec-10-23 04:10 PM
2801120, its a bit odd that folks wonder why Iā€™ve given up on Tomlin
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Dec-10-23 05:42 PM
when we just had a great chance to lock up a playoff spot vs 2 of the worst teams in the NFL

and lost to both at home.

teams are grabbing QBā€™s off the couch and putting up 300 yards, yet ours always look like SHIT.

done ranting about this shit. Would love to be wrong.
2801119, its gets old defending bad performances
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Dec-10-23 05:08 PM
especially when he keeps coming up like shit vs bad teams.

Iā€™ve been waiting 7 years to shit talk these fucks and he just confirmed what I donā€™t want to admit.

The last 4 times we played teams who were 2-10 we lost.

Its been 6 years since we won a playoff game.

Weā€™ve been blasted in the last 3 playoff losses giving up 40 ppg.

and you want ME to make it make sense?

I bring up Tebow because that shit is a prime example of how ridiculous our performances have been vs mediocre QBā€™s at critical times.

2801128, Bro, I AGREED with you, lol...
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Dec-10-23 06:30 PM
I admitted Tomlin has some culpability in this...especially when you get demonstrated on by Bailey Zappe. Ryan Clark agrees. I ain't go hold you, though...I hope we can talk again after year 4 of Dan Lanning or some shit.
2801110, has he had to or chosen to?
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sun Dec-10-23 04:04 PM
i think a parting at the end of the season is best for all parties. Tomlin is still a good coach but they are going to be in no mans land with him.
2801113, thatā€™s because the Steelers prolly arenā€™t your team.
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Dec-10-23 04:08 PM
I appreciate what he did but Iā€™m done defending his shortcomings.

you guys are defending the man, not the performance.

fighting and clawing for 9 wins gets old

and this idea that without Tomlin we will be in purgatory is laughable. Teams survive after they move on from a coach. Given our history Iā€™m pretty sure we can find another young coach who can motivate players.

2801099, Bryce Young is Josh Rosen 2.0

2801100, amazing that Atlanta spent 3 top ten picks on offense
Posted by will_5198, Sun Dec-10-23 02:26 PM

2801102, our QB is shell shocked

Sutton had his arm extended the whole time on Davis.

Not that it really matters as the Chargers arenā€™t winning this game regardless.
2801129, fam, yall DB had Sutton in an arm bar, c'mon.
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Dec-10-23 06:31 PM

2801130, Chargers losing regardless but Davis was trying to break Suttons arm bar

however, apparently Fred Warner punched him in the back of the head when he was on the ground.

i'mma cut him a break on this one.

2801138, Ok....I didn't know that...
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Dec-10-23 07:46 PM
I can't tell a man to let another man punch him in the head and not react.
2801143, funny thing is i sort of understand why Warner did it.
Posted by PROMO, Sun Dec-10-23 08:08 PM
cuz DK sort of reverse slammed him but to be fair to DK Warner had made the INT so it's DKs job to tackle him by hook or by crook.
2801144, LOL...he did kinda suplex Warner....
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Dec-10-23 08:50 PM
Warner was smart though, when DK grabbed him up, he just let him. The retaliator always gets caught.

Outside zone runs to his side of the field all game/season long
2801170, And a concussion doesn't help your on field awareness either

2801169, not that you shouldn't be positive about Purdy...

2801166, Chiefs really looking like some entitled crybabies right now
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Mon Dec-11-23 09:57 AM
Mahomes crying and screaming at the refs
Mahones complaining to Josh Allen during the handshake instead of the normal "good game"
Andy Reid complaining at the podium

All that energy should be directed at their dumb teammate for costing them yet another game. He was CLEARLY offsides and this is the team that has consistently gotten flags to help them win games. Bunch of crying hoes.
2801167, they won a SUPER BOWL on a way less defensible call
Posted by Tiger Woods, Mon Dec-11-23 10:28 AM

Mahomes SHOULD be mad , but at the people who gave him bargain bin receivers

A penalty like that is a culture mistake. When you got C+ receivers who you donā€™t hold especially accountable then things like this will happen. Toney is literally the type of numbskull who Lamar had to put up with every year until this season.
2801171, He Should be mad at all the turnovers and dumb penalties
Posted by Amritsar, Mon Dec-11-23 11:04 AM
Went on throughout the game and killed too many opportunities for them yesterday
2801174, Yeah, none of this is a good look
Posted by Ashy Achilles, Mon Dec-11-23 11:27 AM
I really think it's just displaced anger for poor receiver play all season
2801176, true...he does a good job of keeping heat off his team (receivers)
Posted by Cenario, Mon Dec-11-23 11:45 AM
maybe that was his plan to distract from toney
2801175, I didnā€™t think Mahomes was this much of a bitch

hell, I try to make a point to say ā€œthat was a shitty call.. BUT Iā€™LL TAKE IT!!!ā€ when my team gets a call that is clearly a bad call. Like that first down vs one team that was clearly short. lol

2801189, by my memory, Mahomes is catching real shit for the first time
Posted by Tiger Woods, Mon Dec-11-23 07:26 PM

to this point he seemed universally loved but today there's been a consensus "chill bro" from everyone on podcasts, TV, and radio that I don't remember him experiencing before. The most embarrassing part is that he's so obviously wrong, which works against him and makes him look like a huge sore loser. I keep waiting for the "I lost my cool and Josh Allen deserved better" apology but I'm not sure it's coming.

Mahomes tantrum/dogshit receivers/Taylor Swift noise...they're just all around off right now. You can't rule them out in the postseason because of the quarterback but right now they're a wreck.
2801192, his wife and younger brother are rubbing off on him.
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Dec-11-23 07:51 PM
this is the first season I think Mahommes feels that pressure of it slipping away due to salary cap impact and shit WRā€™s.
2801227, I gotta assume he's a little embarrassed
Posted by Mynoriti, Tue Dec-12-23 02:03 PM
complaining to Josh Allen was pretty funny. I know they're cool but what do you expect him to say?

by the time the presser came around I think he assumed all the talking heads and public would take his side just based on most of us are frustrated with officiating, especially if they're calling back a great play. That he's a passionate competitor, etc.. I'm not saying he spent much time thinking about it. More that it was just given.

Instead he just looked like a spoiled brat and it's gonna go down as one of the memorable sports tantrums ever, but it's more its just gonna become a meme than any real hit to his rep
2801195, DeVito starting over Tyrod is some bullshit
Posted by DJR, Mon Dec-11-23 09:55 PM
Tired of seeing DeVitoā€™s goofy ass family. Fuck outta here with all that.

Put Tyrod in.
2801196, Tyrod is better but the Giants arenā€™t in the playoff hunt
Posted by calij81, Mon Dec-11-23 09:59 PM
Might as well start the guy who can get you a higher draft pick.
2801198, I hate that loser shit
Posted by DJR, Mon Dec-11-23 10:24 PM
This isnā€™t the NBA.

Get to 7 or so wins and be respectable, IMO, and try to build on it next year. First month of this season was a perfect storm of everything going wrong. A veteran QB with these young WRā€™s that we need to pop like Hyatt and Robinson, would be better for their development anyway IMO.

2801199, Giants are in the 5th spot right now, they could get the 2nd
Posted by calij81, Mon Dec-11-23 10:29 PM
If they lose out and the Pats win 2 more games. Assuming the Giants donā€™t want a QB, being in the 2nd would give me them a lot of leverage for a trade to a team that needs a QB. I would tank and get the highest pick possible.
2801200, They sucked and got high picks for most of the last 10 years
Posted by DJR, Mon Dec-11-23 10:35 PM
It didnā€™t help.

Finally had a good season last year - canā€™t completely fall on your face this year IMO. Iā€™d rather be respectable and continue to learn to win and fully get rid of the bullshit loser culture thatā€™s been there for too long.

2801197, prolly sells n mad tickets in Bensonhurst

Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Dec-13-23 08:06 AM
More athletic or easier to root for? Sure..

but IMO Tyrod has always been like Josh Dobbs. He is an ā€œalmostā€ or ā€œif he just made a few more playsā€ type of QB.

one of those guys who can get you close but just doesnā€™t win close games at a high clip.
2801273, Bills were always 9-7 or 8-8 when he started
Posted by DJR, Wed Dec-13-23 02:09 PM
I think heā€™s a guy you can win games with, but heā€™s not going to put the team on his back.

DeVito is getting all the attention because of the sideshow stuff, but the Giants defense is carrying them lately. Credit to him for avoiding turnovers though and he definitely played a great 4th quarter against the Packers.

I think the difference is Tyrod wouldnā€™t take all these sacks. DeVito eats the ball and kills drives with sacks way too often.

2801206, Miami looks real fraudulent this year
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Dec-11-23 11:56 PM
epic collapse.

The fuck do they have Tyreek returning kicks but off the field on the last drive?

Here comes the Levis love again now, but he outplayed Tua and deserves praise for this win. I didnā€™t think he would be this good.

I'm still hoping the Steelers somehow steal Malik Willis
2801217, steal? I'm sure Willis will be available next offseason
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Dec-12-23 10:57 AM

now that Levis is their QB.

2801218, Iā€™m sure if they wanted him they could get him for a 6th or 7th

Steelers GM: Hey, we have a bag of dildos.

Titans GM: He's yours.

2801260, he's barely been given a chance I think can be at least as good as half...
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Dec-13-23 09:19 AM
the guys starting in the league right now
2801275, I think he would succeed with a Greg Roman type OC
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Dec-13-23 03:10 PM
he could be a Cam Newton/Hurts type because he has an arm. You just have to get him going with a few runs first and give him some easy ass throws to gain confidence.

He isnā€™t a Cam or Hurts, let me make that clear.

His short game is trash but I think play action over the top could be his bread and butter
2801223, idk ... I feel differently
Posted by Tiger Woods, Tue Dec-12-23 01:06 PM
that's a bad loss sure, especially given it was at home and what was at stake

but still no one else in the AFC has the firepower they have. If you consider who the five best offensive players in the AFC playoffs are, you'd obviously go 1. Mahomes and 2. Lamar ... but after that? Dolphins may round out the rest of the top five with their skill guys.

And Miami could still very well sew up homefield, and the SB this year even is in a dome. And I'm pretty sure their coach is an transformational offensive genius ala Walsh/Gibbs/Holmgren/Reid/Payton/McVay.

People who are casting the Dolphins out right now are forgetting how inexperienced they are. This is the first year they've been able to keep Tua upright for a full season (looking for wood to knock on), and just McDaniel's second year at the helm. A loss like last night is one of the growing pains that come with young coaches and young teams - McVay the boy wonder got SPANKED by Bill in the most boring Super Bowl of all time, and The Niners took their lumps with inconsistent QB play before this year finding their diamond in the rough in Purdy.

I'm still bullish on the Dolphins, their roster, and their coach overall.

To me I think last night is more a testament to Vrabel and Levis than it is an indictment of the Fins.
2801233, they were up 14 points with 3 minutes left
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Dec-12-23 05:11 PM
the problem with this team is they haven't beat anyone good. That fire power rarely shows up vs good teams.

a testament to Levis and Vrabel? This isn't a good TN team.

at some point this team has to beat someone legit. We will see in the next 4 games. Don't be surprised if they go 1-3. It's a brutal stretch.

2801237, Sure.
Posted by Tiger Woods, Tue Dec-12-23 08:28 PM
They wonā€™t go 1-3

Probably go 2-2, maybe 3-1. Definitely winning their division. Better than 40% chance of a first round bye. Idk thatā€™s a great season to me for a 2nd year coach and QB combo.

One turn youā€™re saying they donā€™t beat anyone, next turn youā€™re like but Tennessee isnā€™t good.ok?
2801252, huh? I said they didnā€™t beat anyone good AND lost to a bad TN team
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Dec-13-23 07:55 AM
which means Miami looks a bit fraudulent when you look at who they beat vs who they lost to.

where is the confusion? lmao

They lost to Buff, Eagles, KC, TN (which is a bad loss given they were up 14 with 3 minutes left and TN was 4-8).

they beat:
Pats
Denver (they were terrible to start the year)
Carolina
Wash
Jets
Chargers
Giants
Raiders

Denver is the only team with a chance to make the playoffs on that list.

they have to play Jets, Dallas, Ravens and Bills. That is a hard 4 games. Maybe beat the Jets but I think thatā€™s it.

That was a brutal loss
2801238, yeah thats a horrific L. i enjoyed it tho lol

2801253, loved to see it
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Dec-13-23 08:03 AM
and it kinda proves why some call them paper champions. That 70 point win had folks thinking they were strong as hell and yes, when its rolling they look scary good.

But then you zoom out and its always against really bad teams and they have yet to show this offense can do this vs anyone physical or anyone who knows how to win consistently this year.

I wouldnā€™t bet on this team. They got that Chargers vibe this year.
2801224, 3 OL out will make anyone look bad
Posted by cgonz00cc, Tue Dec-12-23 01:10 PM
2801234, it wasn't just the OL
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Dec-12-23 05:14 PM
that D looked suspect late.

the offense looked lost without Hill. The last possession not even having Hill on the field? What was that about?

As good as McDaniels is drawing up plays he looked clueless in crunch time.

TN tried their best 2 give them the game with 2 turnovers late AND a pick 6 to a DL.

and they still gave it right back.

just look at who they beat vs who they lost to this year. I can't see them making any type of playoff run if they don't show up and deliver vs a team worth a damn.
2801262, Not like this, Camā€¦.

2801310, KC misses Tyreek Hill...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Dec-14-23 12:04 PM
Eric Bienemy aint making receivers drop passes. He didn't cause Tony to let a ball go right through his hands and turn into a pick 6. He didn't cause MVS to drop a perfectly thrown bomb/easy touchdown. Chiefs don't have a scheme problem, they have a 'nobody can win one on one...and if they do get an opportunity to get a target, they can't catch it' problem.
2801315, was Tyreek there last year when they went to the Super Bowl?
Posted by ThaTruth, Thu Dec-14-23 01:13 PM
2801316, You know teams don't instantly get bad, right?
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Dec-14-23 01:28 PM
The shit is gradual. Barry Swtizer won a SB the season after Jimmy Johnson left. I get it, though. You're doing a thing, so go off. We know Eric Bienemy is good. His absence is not the reason the Chiefs have the record they have. We LITERALLY have watched 2 receivers cost them THREE GAMES...right before our eyes. They could be 11-2 right now, easily.
2801319, what are you even talking about?

2801326, it was a simple example...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Thu Dec-14-23 05:07 PM
..of a coach leaving, where the residual effect/impact wasn't immediate, but still happened.

We all know that Barry didn't do much but manage the situation created by Jerry & Jimmy, yet he's credited with a SB win. His point was that Bieniemy's presence strong enough that his absence is just now starting to truly show.

2801322, I think both of you have valid points...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Thu Dec-14-23 03:44 PM
..unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to be inside that locker room.

Those film sessions, practice, etc. are crucial to not only strategy, but also the culture.

*Dstl1 has a point: Bieniemy's absence doesn't lead to dropped passes. However, what if the real issue is that those WRs aren't being held accountable to the same standard set while EB was there?

While KC clearly has a talented roster, its not nearly as potent (or consistent/dependable) as it was during Bieniemy's tenure.

Had you led with the same links you eventually posted, I seriously doubt this dialogue plays out in the same manner.

I didnā€™t feel like the Bienemy question was out of left field I had heard talking heads heads on various networks comment on it I didnā€™t realize folks had such strong feelings but itā€™s probably just me *shrugs*
