Plus wouldn't teams be in a better state to compete a few months in vs the 1st month.
A post xmas lead in to the All star break makes more sense to me..post xmas is when the interest really start wanes

Group the tourney games together - picking random days for the games makes it lose the tourney feel and there's no momentum.
