2792631, Shannon Sharpe leaving Undisputed

Shannon Sharpe’s partnership with Skip Bayless is coming to a conclusion soon.

Sharpe and Fox Sports, the parent company of FS1, which airs “Undisputed,” have reached a buyout agreement, sources tell The Post.

Sharpe’s final show is expected to be after the 2023 NBA Finals conclude in June.

Sharpe’s popular “Club Shay Shay” podcast, which draws a big audience on social media and YouTube, will also be leaving Fox Sports, a source said.

There was public friction between Sharpe and Bayless on the show after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field in a Week 17 game against the Bengals.

Bayless, in a stream-of-conscious tweet sent after Hamlin had collapsed but before the rest of the game had been canceled, wrote, “No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game – but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant.”

Sharpe stayed home from “Undisputed” the following morning; when he returned a day later, he said that he had wished Bayless would take the tweet down, while Bayless said that he stood by it.

“I cannot even get through a monologue without you interrupting me,” Sharpe said.

The two then had disagreement on if the FS1 bosses wanted Bayless to offer an explanation for the tweet.

Unc Shannon sharpe was explaining why he wasn’t on undisputed yesterday & this man Skip bayless gonna interrupt him when Shannon tells him to take down the tweet of damar Hamlin 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️ pic.twitter.com/hQQK0njiQZ

At that time, there were a number of armchair observers, including former FS1 host Marcellus Wiley, who predicted the duo were headed for a breakup.

“This is primal. This is two alphas fighting for territory,” Wiley said on Instagram. “This is about power. Because that dynamic of power on that show has shifted, whether it’s real or imagined. Right now, we’re all seeing that battle for it. Let’s see who comes out undisputed.”

People close to Sharpe said privately that he did not seek to be the unquestioned leader on the show, but wanted to be an equal with Bayless in the program’s topic selection.

Another element that seemed to bleed over between the two was that Sharpe is close with LeBron James, whose performance Bayless has been a hard grader of over the years.

Sharpe, 54, was the unquestioned choice to join as Bayless’ cohost on “Undisputed” after Bayless left his ESPN “First Take” partnership with Stephen A. Smith to join FS1 in 2016.

Sharpe had filled in for Smith in debating Bayless on the program, and the two had dynamic chemistry, plus, in what was a rarity, the “First Take” viewership numbers did not fall off with one of the hosts off the set.

Sharpe is a three-time Super Bowl champion, a four-time All-Pro and enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Sharpe, Bayless and a Fox Sports spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
2792633, his podcast can make him more money with less headache.
Posted by Reeq, Wed May-31-23 07:23 PM
he lowkey does better youtube numbers than the pivot, i am athlete, and all of the similar podcasts in that space. and doesnt have to split the pie with multiple cast members.

as soon as i opened the article i went straight to looking for a line about who owns the podcast...because i remember somebody saying fox sports did and i didnt know how reliable that info was.

but since hes taking it with him and has full control then hes golden.
2792634, buyout?
Posted by tariqhu, Wed May-31-23 08:48 PM
didn't even wait for the contract to end. he's tired of dealing with Skip's bs.
2792635, Bron, Brady, Cowboys, repeat. I'm good

Guy has talked NFL for 75% of his show throughout the NBA playoffs.

The NFL offseason ain't that cool, man.

2792703, the metrics support those limited topics
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jun-01-23 08:10 PM
if you listen to these folks when theyre interviewed on other platforms they readily admit they dont want to talk about the Cowboys, Lakers, Lebron, Brady but the numbers plummet whenever they go away from those topics
2792668, idk how people listen to all these (sports) podcasts lol
Posted by guru0509, Thu Jun-01-23 12:56 PM
I feel like every Tom dick and Harry has a one

Maybe it’s bc I spent 90 % of my day talking with clients , and I’m sick of hearing human voices at the end of the day but when I slip on headphones i don’t want to hear anything but music with occasional NPR segment

Not to hear Shannon sharpe glaze Lebron , or Stephen a drone on about how KD is the best player in the world (he’s not) and the cowboys sucking etc etc

Yep. Its been over for me on these PTI-type shows for quite a while. Its almost all shenanigans on the same types of topics (comparing two good things until everyone leaves the conversation thinking everything sucks, the same old 'polarizing' situations where no one is going to learn anything ever because they're too married to 'their stance', other things that generally make average people less informed) and I'm not into it at this point beyond once a quarter if that.

Some of the I Am Athlete-type shows CAN be decent but you're usually amazingly dependent on the guest for those.

2792677, nah i feel the same way. I 'm sure i would enjoy some of the them
Posted by Cenario, Thu Jun-01-23 02:54 PM
but if i have to endure a whole bunch of bs to find one? nah.

I remember someone linked one for PG. i couldn't even get past the intro.
2792701, its easy if you WFH
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jun-01-23 08:09 PM
like 70% of the year i could probably go all day w/o having to talk to a client or coworker for any reason outside of just shooting the shit

9-10 am: Get Up
10-Noon: First Take / or a podcast if I dont feel like hearing SAS be loud
12-3: Cowherd for an hour or so then a podcast or youtube cause he repeats topics a lot during the week
3: Gym
6:30-8: Evening Sportscenter or a podcast while I clean up the rest of the workday and eat dinner

days i get tired of sports I just watch Supernatural, Charmed or Fresh Prince because those are always on some channel
2792705, Yuuuupppp…
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-01-23 08:16 PM
My desk is 5 feet away from 2 tvs. I watch all types of shit. Get Up is my starting spot. I’ll fuck with First Take depending on who is on or what they are talking about. Then it’s over to YouTube, podcasts, MLB package or I might just let The Office run for a few hours.
2792738, Charmed? Lol
Posted by allStah, Thu Jun-01-23 09:13 PM
I feel you.. every man’s low key guilty pleasure.

Love Piper to this day
2792744, Lol, wrong guy fam…
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-01-23 09:29 PM
I’ve never watched an episode of Charmed in my life. Only reason I even know what it is, is from falling asleep watching Inside the NBA and waking up the next morning with it on.
2792785, LMAO
Posted by Cenario, Fri Jun-02-23 10:38 AM
Same here except when i turn the tv on in the morning that's what usually comes on bc i turned it off on tnt
2792880, Yeah I have a similar schedule too lol…
Posted by ThaTruth, Sat Jun-03-23 10:51 AM
in the morning I usually flip between local/national news shows and videos on BETher lol…

around 10 I usually flip between the ESPN shows and multiple random tv shows some old, some new, I have a whole post in GD about that lol

I like NBA Today so I usually try to catch that and unfortunately usually the end of Max Kellerman, I have a love/hate relationship with the talking head sportswriter tv shows ATH/PTI, then of course sportscenter after that lol
2792877, This sounds fucking horrible lol

2793364, Lol i cringed
Posted by guru0509, Fri Jun-09-23 12:04 PM
I dont give a fuck about Lakers or Cowboys. That's 50% of material

they dont talk about ANYTHING other than a select few topics in the NBA or NFL,

Stephen A Smith is a conservative Chris Christie supporting shithead, just looking at his face annoys me.

Molly is an airhead, and no one else is intereting

best background noise = CNBC, CNN Money, and Fox Business,

edit, or 90s Deep house mixes (thanks Ryan M for the recs)

2792784, yeah I haven't been able to do it anymore
Posted by Lach, Fri Jun-02-23 10:33 AM

god bless shannon sharpe.
2793021, completely silent on the two worst situations
Posted by Beamer6178, Tue Jun-06-23 12:48 PM
1) The "you're jealous of Tom Brady because you didn't play as long" and "put your glasses on" exchange. Despite what folks said, that was a scene where Skip got closest to "Chris Everett" territory.

2) The complete and utter radio silence regarding Jerry Jones high school pic when Black students were integrating his school. Here's where Skip's control of content came into play, I can't imagine Shannon didn't want to talk on it.

Every time a Black person was murdered, injured, seriously slighted, Skip spoke from that place of a "white man who really cared," but typically, predictably, caucasially, when the racism involved HIS circle or HIS area of concern, he did the white thing: NOTHING. Such a great illustration of my credo "white people can't disappoint me, they can only pleasantly surprise me."

Not sure how much those incidents factored into Shannon's decision, but that would have been enough for me.

They should bring in Jalen LOLOLOLOL
