Opening day, folks. Fans (most) are full of hope. Lotta teams have changed....but you know what they say about things changing. Pitch clocks are ticking. It's gonna be 68 in The Lou today. Cards hosting the Blue Jays. I'm rocking the baby blue Ozzie Smith joint at the office....cuz, ef em, that's why (c)Chappelle

They got lucky today the Braves didn’t crack double digits. Shame about Max Fried, didn’t look like more than a minor tweak but you gotta be careful as hell with the push off hammy of a SP.

2785926, Yeah, there will be an adjustment like I stated in my thread about Posted by allStah, Fri Mar-31-23 06:50 AM
about the pitch clock.
There were some issues pitch wise, announcer wise and batter wise. This will not be the final product.….they were talking about it on ESPN 1000 radio this morning….
Marcus Stroman’s violation was ridiculous and the entire stadium boo’d.
Like I said, for me, an extra 5 seconds and flat time will give it more of a natural feel and give everyone ample time….or the clock will be eliminated after the 7th inning.
One thing critics mentioned on ESPN is that during the WBC the matchup between Trout and Ohtani went well past the current time rule because there was no pitch clock in that tournament….the current pitch clock would have killed the beautiful tension and drama that played out during that moment. That’s one thing that has been pen pointed because those stars have to be showcased and there can’t be any interruption with that.
So I imagine some type of flat control will be implemented to even things out
|
2785932, yeah those scenarios are like <1% of baseball interactions Posted by Cenario, Fri Mar-31-23 08:58 AM
you're talking about the final out in a tournament between two of the games biggest stars who are usually teammates. I'm ok if we missed out on a couple minutes of tension of guys walking around or messing with their gloves if it can save me 20+hours over the course of a season.
>One thing critics mentioned on ESPN is that during the WBC the matchup between Trout and Ohtani went well past the current time rule because there was no pitch clock in that tournament….the current pitch clock would have killed the beautiful tension and drama that played out during that moment. 2785944, I don't think the rules have as much to do with the impact of that moment Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Fri Mar-31-23 12:25 PM
The lack of a pitch clock had about 10% of an impact on the drama of that moment. I'd say having the two best players, who play on the same team, facing each other for the first time with the championship on the line is why that moment was special. Not the fact that they had no limit on the time of the at-bat.
It's the same when many pundits thought the Elam ending was going to save the ASG. The reason the outcome was so spectacular was the high competition level because they paid homage to Kobe.
I mean, I get the pushback. It's such a fundamental shift in the way baseball is enjoyed and played. I know I'd feel a way if the NBA went to a 40 min game. Overall MLB games are a better product because there's action throughout.

2785939, Andrew Vaughn with the clutch hitting to win the game in late innings. Posted by allStah, Fri Mar-31-23 10:35 AM
This is why Abreu wasn’t re-signed, to get Vaughn back to his natural position at first base…and he has the talents and potential to be just as good.
Tim Anderson playing for Team USA has definitely matured him. I can see a difference in his game. He was clutch too.
And Dylan Cease is a true ace. He should have won the CY last season….and is favorite to win it this year.
Just hope the rest the bullpen can be just as good

2786503, Games are way too short and fast now and fans Posted by allStah, Fri Apr-07-23 12:50 AM
are seriously complaining.
https://www.outkick.com/mlb-pitch-clock-or-bitch-clock-fans-complain-games-are-too-short-now/
“More people are beginning to take umbrage with the fact that they are in many cases spending a lot of their hard-earned cash for a game and may not be getting their money’s worth. You’re essentially paying the same amount or even more but getting less out of it.”
When fans go to the bathroom or take their kids to the bathroom, when they come back they have already missed 2-3 innings of the game. So now fans are being ripped off because they are still spending the same amount of money, but they are getting less of a product.
The games went from being way too long to way too short, this is why I say the clock will be adjusted. Also vendors are losing money, because they are losing an hour’s worth of business due to games being shorter. That can’t continue to happen.
Anyone with 2 eyes can see the difference and how bad it is….it no longer feels like a baseball game.

2786517, Concessions haven’t dropped at all Posted by Nodima, Fri Apr-07-23 10:13 AM
You’re turning into a conspiracy guy about this whole thing and it’s frankly weird.
https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/do-shorter-games-lead-to-lower-concessions-sales/?amphtml
https://theathletic.com/4381586/2023/04/05/mlb-new-rules-beer-sales/?source=user_shared_article
When we went from no clock to a clock and lost the 26 minutes, what we found is that there was no decrease in our concession sales,” Manfred said during an executive luncheon hosted by the Paley Media Council in New York. “And we think the reason for that is people kind of, in their head, have two and a half hours set aside to do this baseball game. So before the clock, if two and a half hours was at the end of six (innings), they were gone, OK? Now, they stayed until the end of the game, and we’ve seen absolutely no decline on the concession side. And that’s a really important indicator of how serious the problem was that we were trying to deal with.”

2786520, nailed it. many fans left at the 7th inning stretch... Posted by PROMO, Fri Apr-07-23 10:41 AM
especially if it seems clear their team was going to win or lose, or if you brought your kids on a school night.
now, the end of the game actually happens when the 7th inning stretch used to happen, more or less.
that's what Manfred is talking about right there.
shit, i won't be suprised if ultimately it shows that concessions went up ultimately, because you gotta go your shit, you can't just be lazy and go "whenever."

2786524, Here is a take by Jason Foster from Sporting News who sums it Posted by allStah, Fri Apr-07-23 11:25 AM
perfectly:
“If you’re not at the ballpark for at least four hours, it’s not even worth your time and money,” wrote Jason Foster for The Sporting News on Opening Day. “Short games just aren’t real baseball. If it takes less than 30 seconds between pitches, or if there’s only a minute or two between balls in play, well, that’s just an unrecognizable sport. It’s certainly not the game we’ve come to love. Some people will tell you that the quicker pace forced by the pitch clock is actually a good thing, but those people are idiots.”
https://www.insidehook.com/daily_brief/sports/mlb-pitch-clock-speed/amp
The pace of the game is what made it baseball, and if you take that away then you have something that isn’t baseball…and fans are starting to see the difference…. real baseball fans who actually go to the stadiums
The avg tickets cost 28.00, and baseball is a game where the whole family goes or a group of friends go to have an all day experience at the ball park…so let’s say you have a family of 4-5 go to the ball park. That’s 140.00, plus refreshments and beverages, that’s another 50.00- 60.00….add in gas, traffic and parking. All of that, and then the game is over in 2 hours? That’s a problem, because now they are getting less of a product, but still spending the same amount of money they were spending prior to the change. Fans are starting to see that it’s a rip off, because they are getting a rushed experience
And with inflation being a massive problem now….
That ain’t going to fly.
Now people are starting to see why baseball ain’t just some game like basketball and football to move fast and be sped up…those games have never been all day picnic experiences like baseball.
|
2786525, i mean, i'm not even trying to come at you when i say this... Posted by PROMO, Fri Apr-07-23 11:33 AM
but you're cherry picking the opinion of a guy who agrees with how you feel. and you're obviously welcome to feel that you don't like this new direction for baseball.
i can only speak to how i feel about it. regardless of what i spend on tix and stuff at the game, if i'm doing anything for 2 hours? at that point i feel i've gotten my moneys worth like 99.5% of the time.
|
2786536, dude is in his feelings when all I'm talking about are the actual numbers Posted by Nodima, Fri Apr-07-23 02:10 PM
Here's another pull from that Athletic article (hint: if you're at a major professional sporting event these days, you're a data point on a graph somewhere)
"At least in recent years, baseball fans have left stadiums “significantly earlier” than fans at other sporting events, said Rachel Goodger, chief revenue officer of CrowdIQ, a company that tracks fan movement at ballparks.
"“It’s just been such a focus in baseball,” Goodger said. “Unless there’s a blowout in the NFL, typically fans are staying until the end. Same thing with the NBA and NHL and MLS. Baseball is really one of those sports that the egress has been, I think, a pain point. … Obviously, the rule change is trying to keep fans in the ballpark for the entirety of the game.
"Using data from 2018-22 collected from six MLB partner teams, CrowdIQ found that more fans are in their seats about 45 minutes into the game than at any other point, at close to 95 percent. The percentage drops to around 90 at the two-hour mark, and then 80 at 2 hours, 30 minutes. It takes a sharp turn from there: a half hour later, about 60 percent of fans are in their seats."
Keep in mind they say elsewhere in the article they're working off ticket sales and then taking photos and running them through an AI every 10 to 15 minutes, so those numbers have nothing to do with capacity. So if you're the Marlins and you're losing like 5,000 people in the final 30/60 minutes of a game, just close the bars and send the staff home early.
I live in the home of the College World Series. Nobody's in the 8th inning thinking "y'know, I could go for one more overpriced Bud Light and some ice cream". You're watching the game or you're leaving to pay an appropriate, non-event space inflated price for that one more beer or snack.

>“If you’re not at the ballpark for at least four hours, >it’s not even worth your time and money,” wrote Jason >Foster for The Sporting News on Opening Day. “Short games >just aren’t real baseball."
I guess all the baseball legends of the '70s were not playing a "real" version of the sport, since games were 2.5 hours back then. of course this guy is an actual voter for the Hall of Fame, not just a Bleacher Report hack.

2786529, There is literally the same amount of baseball being played Posted by Oak27, Fri Apr-07-23 12:25 PM
The time that's been eliminated isn't time of the game/entertainment, it's time that NOTHING WAS HAPPENING during.
People are still getting the same amount of baseball for their money. They are just getting less filler in between action.
|
2786539, and that’s the experience. Posted by allStah, Fri Apr-07-23 02:50 PM
The nothingness of the game is where you found out a lot about baseball, and real baseball fans know what that is.
You don’t and didn’t watch football for that experience…but you do with baseball.
Ken Griffey in the swing area, removes the donuts, slowly comes up to the plate and stares down the pitcher, the pitcher stares back…. Griffey scans the outfield and gets into his stance…The pitcher looks off a pitch, agrees with a sign and then gets into his wind up and delivers a fastball…CRACK!! Griffey blasts one over the wall for a homer!
It’s the build up to the play and the play itself that makes it baseball.
Baseball is a turtle that’s not meant to be a rabbit or a cheetah….
and people are starting to realize that difference…

That’s just made up?
It’s quite evident that baseball has gone from one extreme to another.
Here is one fan’s take from New York:
“anyone else think that these baseball games are WAY too short ? like it’s really making me contemplate watching most if not all games on TV which i haven’t done since literally i was 9 i’ve gone to minimum one game per season at least. but to travel to the park in queens for this short that’s crazy. #LGM”
( those snippets were taken from the article that I posted)
You got fans traveling through all sorts traffic and taking hours to get to the stadium, only for the game to end in 2 hours and having to turn right back around? You think New Yorkers and Californians are going to put up with that
Those are valid issues and quite evident….

yes.. their enthusiasm “MAY CHANGE” which means they haven’t experienced it yet, they just predict it will happen. Parents already know the chances of missing innings are high due to kids small ass bladders which is why concessions have hundreds of TV’s showing the game.

Look, I know this not sustainable at this rate. But this gives me a lot of hope for our potential.
Coming into the season, I was worried about whether we had enough offensive firepower. And I get that these 9 games were against Washington, Detroit & Oakland. But to be a good team, you gotta take advantage of the bad teams. And we put up some fantastic numbers.
It's good to see that we have talent & ability to hit & score. Now my only concern is staying healthy.

This is America. We dont like rules, but we also like excess. Can make for a bad combination. I imagine some of these rules were born out of liability worries

People live close to baseball stadiums. I think it's pretty reasonable to ask that these billion dollar corporations forgo nine full innings of beer profit and instead take seven and let people be slightly less drunk when they get to their car.
|
2786937, Is a 1.5-2 inning cutoff really doing anything though? Posted by pretentious username, Thu Apr-13-23 02:12 PM
If some moron is dead set on getting tanked, they can just buy a bunch of beer before the cutoff and keep drinking. And 30 or so minutes ain’t doing much to sober up these morons anyway.
I very rarely drive when I go to the stadium, so it’s annoying to me that because there are a handful of idiots out there, the baseball stadium has to babysit every adult. It was especially dumb to me when I lived in New York cause probably 75% or more of the fans arrived by train.

And actually pitcher Jack Flaherty is biracial and identifies as black but almost nobody knows because he's clean-haven and wears his hear short most people think he's white. I didn't know until he spoke out about it a couple of years ago in Jackie Robinson Day he said something to the effect of "WE as African-American players need to get more African American youth playing baseball" I was like "whoa!" and had to google his background lol...

Sometimes I see a young woman wearing a mantilla in Mass and I think "that's an incredibly old-fashioned look for somebody in her 20s." But having 2-3 old women sprinkled around a church wearing a mantilla at Mass is exactly perfect, and those old women had to be young at some point. So that's how they keep the tradition alive.
Same with rec specs.

2787607, Max Scherzer ejection was bullcrap. Posted by allStah, Thu Apr-20-23 12:45 PM
I’m not a huge fan of his, but how can you eject a player who did not use any illegal substances, but you claim his hands were sticky?
He did everything the umpire asked him to do, and the only thing he used used while on the mound was rosin, which is legal…now if the mixture of rosin and sweat makes the hand tacky, that’s not Max’s fault…
And his pitches had the same consistent spin rate per computer readings…
There was nothing strange about his pitching.
I read somewhere that 3 pitchers have been ejected this season by this umpire. ..not sure if that is accurate or not
|
2787609, umpire has ejected 3 players since they started doing checks Posted by RobOne4, Thu Apr-20-23 01:18 PM
I believe those are the only 3 ejections for foreign substance. So some educating is in need if so.
edit. Just read that rosin can be deemed an illegal substance if overused and its only to be used on the mound. So if he is in the dugout making a nice rosin mix between innings he is fucked. No way to prove he wasnt. So its looking like he is missing a couple of starts.
|
2787611, Yes. That umpire definitely needs to be educated or re-trained Posted by allStah, Thu Apr-20-23 01:33 PM
in my opinion..That’s why I made a note of how many times he has ejected pitchers for so-called using an illegal substance.
And as far as the rosin, it’s still bullcrap, because as you stated there is no proof that he tried to manipulate it. Plus he did everything the Umps asked him to do: changed gloves, washed his hand with alcohol, etc.
It just appeared to me that the umpire had it out for him regardless…and now he is going to miss games because of it.
|
2787612, its the bullshit way they word rules Posted by RobOne4, Thu Apr-20-23 02:11 PM

he refused to change anything. I think we all knew he wasnt going to change unless he got a change of scenery. I think he needed that kick in the ass and that loss in money to properly motivate him. He is an elite centerfielder but he just looked lost at the plate. I bet he struggles again this year if we resigned him.

2787772, “Down period”…..that’s one way to say it Posted by DJR, Sat Apr-22-23 05:46 PM
His 2020 COVID shortened season could be called a “down season”. Still hit 12 HRs, but OBP% was significantly lower.
The following 2 seasons, he was absolutely horrific at the plate.
|
2787779, Do you understand how dreadful he was for 3 straight seasons? Posted by pretentious username, Sat Apr-22-23 06:40 PM
What a strange analysis to ignore him hitting the Mendoza line the past couple years.
No idea why, but it’s obvious he needed a change of scenery to get back on track. He got what he needed, so good for him! There was no reason for the Dodgers to keep him around.
|
2787780, That’s exactly my point. He was clearly going through something Posted by allStah, Sat Apr-22-23 06:51 PM
to have that kind of drop off, and if you throw in those pandemic years ,which was a huge interruption for some players, that played a role as well.
If he were a much older player then yeah I would understand the lack of interest, but for a 27 year old who has already proven his elite two-way ability, I think you have to make an exception in that situation.
You just don’t turn your back on an elite player, who is possibly JUST entering his prime because of 2-3 years of bad baseball..
MVP, WS,etc should have brought him another year or 2 with the Dodgers.
Hell Juan Soto looks like he is going through something similar, is 24, was terrible last year, and is now batting .174…wonder if Padres will lose interest if he continues to struggle.
|
2787905, Lol, they didn’t “turn their back” on the guy Posted by pretentious username, Sun Apr-23-23 05:24 PM
>You just don’t turn your back on an elite player, >who is possibly JUST entering his prime because of >2-3 years of bad baseball.. >
You are making WAY more out of this than there needs to be. They hung on to him for 3 seasons while he sucked, it became clear that he needed a change of scenery, so he signed a deal with the Cubs and it’s working out. He wasn’t even traded. How did they turn their back on him lol?
|
2787909, They did Posted by allStah, Sun Apr-23-23 05:29 PM
They didn’t offer him a contract. That’s losing interest and going the other way.
They thought he was shot. They offered him NOTHING. Former MVP, GG,SS…It is a big deal. He wasn’t some squad player.
“In the end, the Dodgers decided Bellinger, hampered by injuries the last two years, strayed too far off and didn't tender him a contract for next season, making him a free agent. “
We agree to disagree.

|
2787921, And how is not offering him a contract a betrayal? Posted by pretentious username, Sun Apr-23-23 06:38 PM
>They didn’t offer him a contract. That’s losing interest >and going the other way. > >They thought he was shot. They offered him >NOTHING.
I’m not a fan of the arbitration system, but the Dodgers gave him a decent amount of money through it in hopes that he would get back to that MVP level, which he didn’t. Why should they feel obligated to offer him a contract when it was clearly not working out?
|
2788099, RE: They did Posted by RobOne4, Tue Apr-25-23 01:09 PM
they didnt offer him a contract because they gave him every opportunity to fix his swing and he stayed with the same old bullshit that was proven to not work. When asked about changing his swing he said the swing im working with feels comfortable to me so im going to stick with it. This after 2 horrible seasons. When a young player doesnt show willingness to change its time to part ways.

The Angels' fun level is 1 million...I really hope they can figure out the bullpen. I don't think they will be a contender, but they can at least be a competitive team toward the end of the season.
Ding Dong. Who's there? Jorge Soler!
Tampa Bay is just organizationally better than your team. Sorry.
Tatis Jr. is built like RGIII at Baylor, but fuck can he generate power. Hope h's off that cream and clear.
Max Muncy has the sliders turned all the way up. Dude has 10 homeruns as of April 23rd. Last year, he didn't hit his 10th homer til August.
Mookie played SS yesterday and was straight snaggin. What a stud, man.

He is very solid, but he has only one AS appearance, and he will be 29 in January. Of course, he isn’t old, but is this his ceiling?
For any other team, the contract is chump change, but for the Pirates it’s huge. This is the first time that the pirates have given a player a 100 million dollar contract. It’s the richest deal in franchise history.
They haven’t really had a star player since McCutchen, and they are an extremely small market team, which is why it is hard for them to get AS players and to keep AS players.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out…

i might get in trouble but i'm winning public opinion and guaranteeing i never have to wear one of those mics again.
i understand them trying to create fan interest, but take away the horrible question - it's just awful asking players stuff while they are trying to field their position.

I may have seen them interview OFs in slow games before, but:
1) There’s no more slow games, so they should probably cut this based on that alone.
2) infielders REALLY gotta pay attention to everything, definitely don’t interview them.
3) if you feel you have to interview in-game, maybe just stick to light questions like “who’s the funnest guy in the clubhouse?”
4) bringing up a dead loved one… wtf???

2790876, The Effectively Wild podcast been pointing out how weird this is often Posted by Nodima, Tue May-16-23 09:15 AM
I didn’t watch any clips myself but a week or two ago they had a catcher mic’d up while he was behind the plate and it was apparently like Bane X 10 because the mic was on his chest plate. Somehow the batters couldn’t hear him so that’s kind of a win, I guess, but it sounds insane

The Angels only visit the Os like once a season so there was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity to see Ohtani pitch and play. Plus, a 6:35 start on a beautiful 75 degree evening at Camden Yards? Shiiit (c)
Ohtani did not disappoint. His HR was a thing of beauty. It was just a rocket, line drive…one of the quickest HRs I’ve witnessed.
The Os lost, but was definitely a fun experience all around.

Raul Acuna, Jr? Home run in 3 straight games
Luis Roberts - 4 home run in 4 straight games
Aaron Judge - 5 homers in his last 4 games
Ohtani? Doing it on both sides of the ball.
I gotta say acuna Jr,,, 2nd in home runs, first in hits, 2nd in stolen bases, first in runs, second in batting average ..dude is doing Rickey Henderson shit. Luis Roberts a close second because he has been on a tear.
Muncy is raking too ..Arenado is also on some killer hr shit. 5 straight games with a Hr But Acuna is a beast above beasts

The contract was set to run through 2027, but the Rangers can add an extra year to the deal if he undergoes Tommy John surgery or any shoulder or elbow surgery that keeps him out for an extended period of time."
"The compensation on the option for the 2028 season is tiered based on how deGrom finishes in Cy Young voting and how many innings he pitches for the Rangers over the life of his contract."

2793061, I'm all in on the A's having the worst season ever Posted by mrhood75, Wed Jun-07-23 02:19 AM
I've been going to A's games for about 40 years, so I've seen fire and I've seen rain. But rarely have I seen something like this.
This team is horrible. The hitters can barely hit. The starting pitchers are worse than the hitters. And the relievers are worse than the starting pitchers. No pitcher on the roster is good enough to be a 20-game loser. No reliever is good enough to lose 27 straight games. We're the "gimme" on every other team in the league's schedule. The home fans have been totally gutted by Fisher's decision to move the team; they're drawing under 10,000 a night regularly, and one game only a little over 2,000 showed up. I expect it to get worse.
At this point, the A's are beyond a lost cause. We'd have to go a little under 0.500 from here on out to ***only*** lose 100 games. So lean into the shit. The team has 13 wins and are now on pace to win 42. Which would give them the worst record in a 162 game season ever. I say go for it. Hell, go for 125 and 130 losses. That would be preferable to the team "turning it around" and losing between 110 and 115 (which would also be very unlikely).
This season being remembered for being historically awful would be a "win" at this point. Because fuck Steve Fisher.

Though I'll add that it's now the bottom of the 7th, 9-4, the Pirates have loaded the bases, and the bullpen have just walked in a run. So the A's could still very well still blow it.
I also have zero idea how the A's won the series against the Braves at home.
If we pull of beating the Pirates today, it will be only the third series win this season.

but also disappointing that Julio didn't win.
they have to adjust the format though. dudes are too gassed at the end to make it as exciting as it should be.
put that one on my list of experiences. would probably never go to another home run derby. definitely a one time thing IMO.
|
2794898, Format Posted by The Real, Tue Jul-11-23 08:16 AM
I agree. People don't understand how tiring it is to swing that many times in that short window.
I know people like the head-to-head but maybe the first round you do pool play. Everyone puts up their numbers, bottom 4 are eliminated and then you seed the final four.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|
2794919, what happened to just doing 'outs'? Posted by Cenario, Tue Jul-11-23 03:16 PM
i feel like that was more exciting. now you're looking to see where a ball lands and dude has already swung at the next pitch.
I mean anytime you add a time factor it adds another element...maybe just do a timed 30 second run after 20 outs or something idk
|
2794920, the bonus time thing irks me more than anything. Posted by PROMO, Tue Jul-11-23 04:54 PM
cuz, apparently there's no ACTUAL rule with that they just apply for television production purposes?
cuz, it's supposed to be an extra 30 seconds if a guy hits one 440 ft or further, up to 2 (so a max of an extra minute).
well, in the stadium yesterday they are tracking every contestant's distance including their longest HR of the round, and two guys got an extra 30 seconds whose longest HR was tracked at 427 feet.
so, they just hand out the extra time if the contest isn't interesting enough i guess.
and then, last year (yes i'm a homer so i'm mad) Julio lost because Soto got 30 extra seconds just cuz a single Julio HR only went 435 feet so he didn't ge extra time despite Julio clearly being THE GUY last year.
like, the two best moments of the night were Julio and Rutschman (switch hitting) and there was nothing of reward for that. it was just lame.
|

2794939, oh, can we talk about WHY they let kids play in the outfield? Posted by PROMO, Wed Jul-12-23 10:18 AM
like, LITTLE kids.
someone is gonna get seriously injured, or worse.
an older dude (teen, maybe actual adult) got domed right in front of my seats on Monday.
he laid down on the field for about 30 seconds then was able to get up and jog off through one of the outfield wall openings. he didn't return.
who knows what happens if that's a 9 year old.

2794894, MLB Draft Posted by will_5198, Tue Jul-11-23 12:18 AM
1. Pittsburgh -- RHP Paul Skenes, LSU 2. Washington -- CF Dylan Crews, LSU 3. Detroit -- OF Max Clark, HS 4. Texas - OF Wyatt Langford, Florida 5. Minnesota -- OF Walter Jenkins, HS 6. Oakland -- SS Jacob Wilson, Grand Canyon 7. Chicago (N) -- RHP Rhett Lowder, Wake Forest 8. Kansas City -- C Blake Mitchell, HS 9. Colorado -- RHP Chase Dollander, Tennessee 10. Miami -- RHP Noble Meyer, HS
as a Nats fan I'm thrilled to get Crews. I think he has a low floor and his ability to flat-out hit will keep him in any lineup no matter the position. staying at center would just be a bonus. Skenes is a prototype front-line starter but when it comes to prospects, I would always take an elite bat over an elite arm. I also like Crews better than Langford, who was getting some hype as number one overall (and might be in other years).
Rangers have to be loving the addition of Langford though, with the way their season has been going. my guy Chase going to the thin air in Colorado; hopefully they fix his slider because he still has elite stuff. Kansas City with the ultimate dice roll taking a high school catcher in the top ten.
further down the draft I'm sad to see that RHP Hurston Waldrep (Florida) went to Atlanta, since that is exactly the kind of high-upside arm that they will probably profit nicely from.

2794929, Yes! They're amazing... Posted by Dstl1, Wed Jul-12-23 07:23 AM
the got power and power is never going to play out. They lead the NL in homers and slugging. They just hit...hard!
Ronald Acuna is out of his mind and Sean Murphy got free from Oakland is absolutely RAKING, plus he's outstanding defensively.
Lastly, they can pitch. Spencer Strider is one of the best pitchers in the entire league. Elder and Fried have been well above average.
I would literally get a chub if we end up with Braves/Rays in the World Series....but, I know baseball doesn't work like that. We got a LOOOOONG way to go in this season.

2794936, They did use to wear team jerseys Posted by The Real, Wed Jul-12-23 09:22 AM
They changed it a couple years ago to specific American and National League uniforms. The only thing is the hats let you know what team they represent. Not a fan of this new look.

I preferred it when they wore the ASG jerseys for the derby and whatnot, but wore their team’s jersey for the ASG. MUCH more visually appealing imo. And it was fun when I could see Red Sox and Yankees players on the field together and be proud when the Sox had more/get mad when the Yankees had more lol.

That "sadly these young guys probably aren't the next Robinson/Palmer/Ripken lifers" was so flagrant
NFL owners get duly shit on but MLB owners are truly the worst of the worst.

I think someone pulled Doofus to the side and let him know that Baltimore hasn't forgotten how the Colts packed up and left literally in the middle of the night. In the age of social media, THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.
The team is setup with its farm system and young roster to be competitive for years.

2795813, LMAO!! Dawg, I got a tight 15 on deck just on the Angels… Posted by Dstl1, Thu Aug-31-23 12:10 PM
for the next time I’m around a bunch of baseball fans. These motherfuckers, man…what are they doing??? I’ve always had a soft spot for them, ever since Albert went there. They’ve been my second team and I always kept up with them and watched a ton of their games. They managed to successfully botch having back to back, generational players. This last stunt, though, should have them relegated or some shit. Everyone on the planet knew they should have traded Ohtani at the deadline, cuz they weren’t winning shit. Instead they “go for it” and promptly lose 10 games. THEN after Ohtani gets hurt, they air out him and his people, saying they tried to get imaging after he experienced hand cramping earlier this month, but Ohtani declined. AND for their final act…they put like 37 players on waivers, including a pitcher they just added when they were going for it, who can all end up on playoff squads…big time salary dump but super hilarious.

2801055, Lost him for nothing...could have traded him BEFORE he got hurt... Posted by Dstl1, Sat Dec-09-23 04:03 PM
for a king's ransom. Now they got disgruntled, getting older Mike Trout and some guys.

2795818, Hell of a sales pitch from Seattle to Ohtani Posted by Nodima, Thu Aug-31-23 04:41 PM
You don't gotta do all that losin' you're doin' over there friend.
The only bummer is that since his arm might be wrecked for the next two years, it doesn't make sense to do what I was increasingly getting excited about as far back as mid-July, which was a world in which Ohtani quickly becomes a 1A/1B Ace alongside Castillo and all those young guns are rendered a little redundant so we just package one or two of 'em up for another true banger in the lineup and we're practically Braves West in structure.
...But at the same time, just having the pitching staff we have is, obviously, more than ideal, so whatever. Come on over, Sho!

I feel like it was the third time he, a known recovering alcoholic, was gifted an alcoholic beverage as a retirement gift.
Might've even just been two, but I remember at least the first one he got could be excused as the equivalent of a collector's item.
This one was nothing but farce. At least the A's are consistent in that dumb way.

2797324, Playoffs set Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Sun Oct-01-23 06:58 AM
For the most part this is what I wanted to see looking at the final month down the season….
I would’ve preferred Hou out of course and Seattle in, but Seattle had a shot and folded. They made a lot out of a little though- but this will be bittersweet.
In the NL I would’ve liked the Reds in over the Phillies to add more youth and fun, but that wasn’t gonna happen cause the Phillies were never in danger.
But now all the Kim angels haters can eat a dick And Corbin Carroll is electric
