He's a good defender and he has hit well enough recently. He's 32, which is "eh" but we'll see. The contract doesn't outlast the current Twins competitive window and, in the year of our lord 2022, even the Minnesota Twins can eat a ten million dollar contract for a season. I'm doubly pleased they didn't get cute with the Jeffers thing. He doesn't even have 600 career plate appearances, so it's too early to platoon him. It means they may need to give him or Vazquez a first baseman's glove once and awhile, but there are worse things. That's what I thought they should have done with Gary Sanchez, though I think that Vazquez provides more to the team.

So yeah - the simple approach to roster-building works for me. Sign good baseball players and figure out how they work together as you go. Money's not too bad and they have one more good player than they did yesterday. Easy easy.
