Arkansas wasn't even ranked at this time last year; they have talent so I wonder if they have a late run left in them

I believe the SEC had the most coaching changes of any major conference this offseason, and aside from Gates (I guess White making Georgia not horrific counts, as you mentioned) they are all struggling in year one
meanwhile I think the Big 12 only has one new hire, Tang (not counting Beard), who had been a lieutenant in the conference for 20 years
Big 11 only has one new hire, and the two new hires in the ACC are struggling as well
