Man, I'm not seeing this being discussed a ton, but...the Myles Garrett thing IS a thing, IMO. He's already missed a game and apparently, even when he's back, these injuries are going to negatively affect him for weeks. He said he's going to change and I hope so. Looking at that Porsche...this could have gone a whole different way for the young man.

On to the games, gents

TNF
Colts @ Broncos (I was last Sunday years old when I realized Latavius Murray was a Saint...tonight he will be in a Broncos uniform. No Johnathan Taylor for Indy and no Javonte Williams for Denver...out with an ACL. I dunno what we are going to see tonight.)

Sunday

EARLY, early
Giants @ Packers in London (how much Saquaon wildcat will we see?)

Early!! (c)Freeway

Lions @ Pats

Chargers @ Browns

Texans @ Jags

Falcons @ Buccaneers

Steelers @ Bills

Dolphins @ Jets (Teddy Two Gloves has the rock)

Bears @ Vikes

Titans @ Commanders

Hawks @ Saints

Late

Niners @ Panthers (the Matt Rhule Death March continues. Sam Darnold is "not close" to returning. Baker said he has to be better...no shit, fam)

Eagles @ Cards

Cowboys @ Rams (Get him, Micah!!)

SNF

Bengals @ Ravens

MNF

Raiders @ Chiefs

on pace for 21 interceptions and 38 fumbles -- a historic football 20-20 season, if you will

and he's earned every one of those -- very painful to see his low velocity throws to the sideline and lack of internal clock

receivers are not good either (Paris Campbell is useless and part of the nice non-return Colts got from the Sam Darnold draft trade)

Colts offensive line is playing horribly (including Quenton Nelson) even though they take up 20% of the salary cap, which is the highest OL percentage in the NFL

the Colts GM Ballard insists that he doesn't want to reach on a young quarterback and set back the team

yet he's spent the last four years using stop-gaps that have...set back the team

Russ is putrid, but we’re closer to mid-October…and Nathaniel Hackett’s offense still looks like it was “designed” for Aaron Rodgers and they haven’t realized Aaron Rodgers isn’t walking through that door.

i tried to tell Broncos fans and fans in general. like, how y'all gonna tell me, a lifelong Seahawks fan who has watched Russ' every move for 10 years, what Russ is and isn't.

SMH.

shit, i'm documented that when the news of the trade broke and they said what we were getting FROM the Broncos that i was like "i think we fleeced the Broncos."

and this Kyle Brandt clip speaks to who Russ is OFF the field if you wanna know why maybe everyone who ever played with him has turned on him now that he's not on the Seahawks:

https://twitter.com/KyleBrandt/status/1578347405342539776

Seahawks fans brushed past all the corniness and trying to be a cool guy cuz we were winning. but his last 2 or 3 seasons here when we weren't, you could see the fanbase slowly turning on him, and starting to notice more of the shit Russ couldn't do on the field and calling it out.

it was all there on the film. i still can't believe the Broncos did it.
2773452, all funnin aside...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Oct-07-22 10:36 AM
I knew there had to be something really going on when Doug Baldwin came out against dude.
2773463, Nathaniel Hackett deserves a significant part of the blame too...
Posted by ThaTruth, Fri Oct-07-22 11:00 AM
other coaches are doing more with lesser QB's.
2773466, no, I just meant regarding the personality stuff...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Oct-07-22 11:09 AM
Hackett is clearly some shit, right now. They had to hire the dude a babysitter to be at his side for tough decisions, lol

>Hackett is clearly some shit, right now. They had to hire
>the dude a babysitter to be at his side for tough decisions,
>lol

Hell, these aren't even tough decisions for anyone who has ever played Madden! Timeout? Go for it or not!?

Those fools last night lined up 2 different times before timeouts (one Colts, one them) on that last play in OT. And all 3 times, I was horrified..waiting for something silly to go down. I was basically sure they weren't not going to score however it went down. That is a damn shame.

And when I remembered that Sherm was on the post-game panel, I was like 'oh, I gotta wait to start watching Atlanta now..I will watch THIS'.
2773529, Sherm did NOT waste the moment, either...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Oct-07-22 07:55 PM
and you can tell they told him to roll with it. Ol girl threw it to him, immediately.
2773532, sherm was having superbowl L PTSD on that postgame lol

>threw it to him, immediately.

Little moments like that probably makes execs giggle. It’s insanely easy content.

And, if nothing else, it’s validation for the concept of having ex-players on panels like that. To me, I could do without the ‘paid to hate’ ex players who are obviously salty on damn near everyone and everything cuz they almost obviously wish they were still playing (Steve Smith, Kendrick Perkins).

But I’ll take a situation like Sherman’s the other night because that was direct relation, HE COULD NOT SAY ANY OF THAT BACK THEN, and it takes those shows out of the hot take/hyperbole abyss they normally and lazily stay in and into something far more human. And enjoyable. And really, Sherm was visibly shaking. It was reciting closure for one of the most absurd Super Bowl endings of my lifetime. Maybe the most. I was at the house spazzing for 30 minutes over that damn interception.
2773547, Yeah this too

Posted by go mack, Sat Oct-08-22 09:10 AM
Let's ask Puck and The Miz what they think! Smh. The Broncos have sucked with every QB since Peyton, drafting a QB wasn't working, Teddy and others failed. I saw Russ make a few good throws at least dropped by mediocre receivers. I'll still take him 5 years over Assweiler, Drew Lock or some other guys they were trotting out. May not make playoffs again in this division but I still have hope they can play better. It will start with a coach who knows what he's doing tho.
2773546, I remember when he was called mini Dilfer in the early days LOL
Posted by Amritsar, Sat Oct-08-22 10:24 AM
I cosigned cuz I’m a Niner fan purely out of hate. But settled into what seemed like an L as the run continued.

As others said, the run game and defense did carry them. The hate he is getting from former teammates is telling too. And if the rumors about him having an office instead of a locker are true in Denver this will get ugly. I suspect he expected similarfavorability back in Seattle too.

2773584, The plea is in: Russ playing hurt
Posted by jimaveli, Sat Oct-08-22 07:43 PM
Whew? At least that’s SOMETHING! He still has warts but okay.

OR

We don’t believe you, you need more people?

Denver has done this before (Peyton). And the NFL isn’t above it either when one of their name brand folks is getting the business for on-field decay.

Posted by RandomFact, Sun Oct-09-22 09:29 PM
I was in a pub in the UK last week and was asked about American football. Before I had a chance to say anything dude says "it's a scam." Never thought about it that way but the young Scotsman was on to something. He knew all about the three hours of programming for 12 minutes of gameplay. And much of that "gameplay" being incomplete passes and one yard runs.

I've tuned in here and there for a few games this season and THIS shit is the antithesis of entertainment.

How and why do you do it? Your Sundays could be much more fruitful.
2773693, i mean, isn't this what Americans say about soccer?
Posted by PROMO, Sun Oct-09-22 09:46 PM
how do you watch this shit the guys just pass the ball back n forth, there's ties, most matches if a team scores 2 that's a lot, the players barely get touched and fall on the ground and cry (but they are usually faking)...etc.

pretty stupid commentary from you here.
2773695, i mean, the play has been shit. my observation stands
Posted by RandomFact, Sun Oct-09-22 10:16 PM
and yes, the guy in the pub brought up valid points that I ultimately agreed with.

not gonna get into a soccer vs nfl thing because that's a useless exercise. i just have no idea how people sit through three hours of this trash.

I stopped around '18 or '19, and really haven't looked back, havent gotten the itch. I think it helped that most of my boys also stopped around the same time.

Its crazy how I used to know everything, every player--I was deep in leagues with IDPs and Special teams, now I don't know anyone past tier 1 and tier 2 stars.

2773731, word. i gave up fantasy football a few years ago...
Posted by PROMO, Mon Oct-10-22 12:05 PM
which kept me planted in front of the tv.

i also found a money making hobby at the start of the pandemic that takes up my weekend mornings and early afternoons both days, so i literally catch the last hour and half of redzone on sundays by the time i get home which is just the right amount of football for me, lol.
2773725, i mostly just watch "my team"
Posted by mista k5, Mon Oct-10-22 11:02 AM
the rest i will watch gameday (switch between the games) for like 30 minutes then switch to something else while i do chores. some prime time games i will tune in at the end. that's when it's really entertaining.
2773760, Same - I only watch the Giants for the most part
Posted by DJR, Mon Oct-10-22 07:45 PM
Yesterday, since they played in the morning….I shut the TV off by 1 PM and never paid another second of attention to football all day.

I will sometimes watch a Sunday or Monday night game in the background as I’m winding down before bed.

About once a year I’ll end up a sports bar with all the games on….that’s still fun to do every once in awhile.

I’ll watch the playoffs.

Im certainly never going out of my way for games that aren’t the Giants, and I never do the “watch football all day long” thing.

I still play fantasy even though I don’t care. If my friends don’t bring back the in person draft, I’m probably out. I really only stayed in it because I liked getting together for the draft since it was the only time we ever see each other anymore. But since covid, we haven’t had an in person draft….and I’m about done with it.

been good the majority of your lifetime I can understand this sentiment lol.

For people that grew up playing, watching and cheering for the sport its as understandable as people in other countries and this one rooting for soccer. Some people don't like baseball, some people love it. Same for basketball and hockey.

As for the NFL there are some stinkers as there have always been but there are some great teams and great players.

Personally I stopped playing close attention when the Rams left St. Louis after the 2015 season then the Kaepernick shit happened the next season I think. I never "gave up" the NFL like a lot of people proclaimed to do at the time but it caused my interest to further wane.

Prior to that I got burned out on fantasy after being a hardcore fantasy guy for 15+ years in multiple sports. I never got into the gambling angle as an adult.

These days if I'm home or somewhere its on tv I'll watch but its not appt tv like it was before. At home I'm usually flipping channels and if a game is close I'll lock in.

Now on Sundays I'm usually at brunch somewhere with friends and I don't care if they have a tv or not lol.

Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Oct-10-22 03:57 PM
The Browns have played like a "5-0" team on offense (Jacoby's Favring at the end of the game aside). They control the clock, and average something like 24-26 points a game.

However, they have to have the WORST defense in the NFL. Worst. Middle of that defense is toilet paper. Before the Football Clippers came to town, they had one of the most anemic running games in the league. Against the Browns non-existing D-Tackles...record numbers.

People thought it would be because Deshaun was gone. Nope. Jacoby got that offense cookin'. But can't capitalize.

Also, the refs still handing out Boody Calls is an embarrassment. Took a sack that would have been 4th down when the Falcons were down one score late in the 4th. Horseshit. That fraud needs to go home and be a family man.

If the Eagles happen to face that bum... it will be a GUILE.

Posted by bentagain, Tue Oct-11-22 05:59 AM
One of the first plays of the preseason was a cheap shot on Hurts going out of bounds
... it's very obvious what they are doing...

Both of those calls were terrible, just awful, turn off the game bad.

Ironically, I was starting to think the rule changes were really cleaning the game up
You don't see a lot of hits to the head anymore

But of course, they have to go too far
Just blow the whistle when the QB is in the grasp of a defender, or make the position 2 hand touch

Changing a point of emphasis during the season is F'n ridiculous.

Tua never should have been allowed back in the first game
Let alone play again 4 days later
These calls won't change that fact.
2773770, At home you go for the tie and on the road you go for the win
Posted by allStah, Mon Oct-10-22 10:04 PM

You go for the tie at home because the advantage is on your side.
The home crowd is behind you and you’re carrying all the momentum

Yes, I keep bringing up Madden too. Most people anywhere near my age has played hella Madden and can manage timeouts, play clocks, and basic decisions for down and distance.

It annoys the shit out of me that there’s fuckass coaches doing this shit for real who can’t reliably handle that stuff even with a staff of mfers around helping them do it.

It sucks too cuz he's gonna get sued, dude he shoved will get paid, and he'll eventually say 'my bad yawl' with no sweeteners on there.

BUT

Even that won't be enough. The bad faith hot takes will be on the scene. The NFL will try to get in on it too in order to take the heat off of themselves for letting Tua play TWICE in 5 days after a visibly apparent concussion-related event. Sadly, yes they consider all of this in one bucket. And then, the average bro meathead posse who can't get over their jealousy of pro athletes in general will try to figure out how to keep the negativity party going.

Maybe they won't have time cuz they're too busy celebrating how ugly things are looking for Russell Wilson: he got traded, got paid, his new team can't accomplish a damn thing on offense, and his old team is whooooooo ridin (or they at least can friggin score). And even worse, that Broncos teams keeps being on TV in solo games. Yikes.

I think he ended up on the ground, so I want to say sorry to him because that was just frustration mixed with him running in front of me and I shouldn't have responded that way and that's how I initially responded. He clearly said it was out of frustration. He made that clear, but the
camera guy did walk into Devante’s path. It wasn’t like Devante sought
him out.

It’ll cost him about a quarter of million, similar to what Dennis Rodman had to fork over
for kicking a camera man during a game. That particular camera man filed assault
charges against Dennis, so Dennis agreed to settle outside of court in order to have
the charges dropped.
