2768583, The 2022 NBA Draft Post

Will it be Jabari or Paolo?
2768584, Wind seems to be blowing Paolo, right?
Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jun-23-22 06:57 PM
2768585, So hard to tell what's a fucking smokescreen, tbh.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-23-22 07:01 PM
Wow could absolutely be putting that out there for Orlando to try to force Houston to trade up for him. Impossible to say.

I'm torn, as I'd be stoked for him to go #1, but I'd prefer him on the Rockets fit-wise.
2768587, woj said paolo is being considered for #1.
Posted by Reeq, Thu Jun-23-22 07:03 PM
up to this morning it was being reported that the top 3 were pretty much set in stone with jabari, chet, paolo.
2768589, woj just said paolo is almost certain to go #1 now.
Posted by Reeq, Thu Jun-23-22 07:06 PM
2768590, there it go.
Posted by Reeq, Thu Jun-23-22 07:08 PM
2768594, Woj even tweeted that Jabari was still #1 an hour ago.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-23-22 07:14 PM
The insiders straight up had it wrong. Don't doubt the bookmakers.
2768599, wild.

Posted by CHASE SwAyZe, Thu Jun-23-22 07:19 PM
Waiting forever in the "Green Room" like Aaron Rodgers!!!!!!!!
2768604, Holy shit, Detroit might get Jaden Ivey.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-23-22 07:27 PM
An Ivey-Cade backcourt would be ridiiiiiiculous, lol. God, I want to see this happen.
2768606, They just drafted Killian Hayes who
Posted by allStah, Thu Jun-23-22 07:31 PM
has tons of upside at the PG position. Would he play SG?
and cade at SF?

They need a PF or help in the middle to make up for losing Grant.

2768607, They'll toss Hayes in the bushes, tbh.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-23-22 07:33 PM
You don't pass on Jaden Ivey because you drafted a guy two years ago that hasn't really shown any flashes of being a playoff-caliber starting guard yet. Plus the Ivey-Cunningham pairing just meshes so beautifully. So complimentary.

Maybe they'll try to run three guards some, but I don't know why they would when Saddiq Bey has been so good.

If they can find a way to land DeAndre Ayton, Pistons will instantly be in business imo.
2768610, Kid is 20, and it has only been 2 years.
Posted by allStah, Thu Jun-23-22 07:44 PM
Every year we hear, “you don’t pass on a kid like this.”

Thing I like about Hayes is he is focused on facilitation... Ivey
is a scoring guard, and with Cade’s need to have the ball as well,
will the rock be shared?

2768632, Cade is a PG, Ivey is a combo guard.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-23-22 10:13 PM
Cade passes very very well, and Ivey passes well for a 2 guard. I think they’ll share the ball beautifully.
2768636, hes surplus to requirements and has no trade value
Posted by cgonz00cc, Fri Jun-24-22 05:48 AM
to the bushes he goes
2768611, Toss him into the throned bushes to be exact.

Posted by allStah, Thu Jun-23-22 07:36 PM
A team full of youngins....and another basement season.

Chet skinny ass is going get chalked every night
2768609, ...did you expect them to be something else?
Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jun-23-22 07:44 PM
They're bottoming out year after year in search of a franchise changing star, or packaging all their assets for a franchise changing star. This isn't surprising.
2768612, I love Sacramento’s pick
Posted by allStah, Thu Jun-23-22 07:48 PM
Murray was the most efficient player in college last season,
and his IQ is off the charts. His offensive skillset is insane, and pair
that with Fox and Sabonis makes for a nice team to build around.

2768613, Stein saying if Duren is there for the Knicks at 11…
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-23-22 07:55 PM
might be a deal going down with Detroit.
2768614, Oh, shit…are the Knicks about to draft Duren and trade him for Ivey??
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-23-22 08:04 PM
2768615, Shams saying Dieng
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-23-22 08:07 PM

2768617, Holy shit, we got Dieng from the Knicks AND kept #12?!?!?!
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-23-22 08:14 PM

2768619, Jalen Williams SZN???
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-23-22 08:16 PM
.
2768618, Should I be worried that Jabari's FG% is 42% as a PF? :-/
Posted by CHASE SwAyZe, Thu Jun-23-22 08:15 PM
And that his cousin is Kwame Brown? (No joke.....) :-|
2768620, yeah that kwame brown link def raised an eyebrow lol.
Posted by Reeq, Thu Jun-23-22 08:16 PM
and not just because of kwame...but that whole family got some issues.
2768639, no. 43/42/80 is encouraging.
Posted by cgonz00cc, Fri Jun-24-22 08:02 AM
on the face of it that looks like shot selection rather than ability
2768623, Mark Williams to Charlotte and AJ to ATL. Great fits, both.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-23-22 08:42 PM
I'm a happy Duke fan.
2768624, I really hope NIL keep players in school for 3-4
Posted by allStah, Thu Jun-23-22 08:52 PM
years. It’s one thing to be young and talented, but the lack of IQ and fundamentals
is glaring. It’s going to take years for most of theses players to develop, and the
NBA is going to be lopsided again with a lot of weak, young teams getting blown
out almost every night.
2768627, i wonder how kendrick perkins got draft duty
Posted by Reeq, Thu Jun-23-22 09:18 PM
over people like jay williams, richard jefferson, or any of the college bball folks.
2768628, ESPN wants him to be their Charles Barkley sooooo bad
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Thu Jun-23-22 09:29 PM
Only explanation i can think of for this man having a permanent job giving his takes and opinions on tv
2768641, this is it
Posted by Ashy Achilles, Fri Jun-24-22 08:47 AM
i couldn't figure out why they have been pushing him so hard
2768643, Ah, NOW his presence makes sense.
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Fri Jun-24-22 09:04 AM
2768647, God, this makes sense, but is a terrible idea
Posted by pretentious username, Fri Jun-24-22 11:01 AM
>Only explanation i can think of for this man having a
>permanent job giving his takes and opinions on tv

Chuck can have some bad takes and we’re all cool with it cause he’s funny as hell. Perk is just bad takes with no redeeming qualities. I had to turn the draft off after like a dozen picks. He had nothing to add.
2768648, They need someone who can keep a cool booty
Posted by Cold Truth, Fri Jun-24-22 11:21 AM
Chuck is an all time great, with a singular charm and outsized personality.

He’s thoughtful, self deprecating, and funny as hell.

Chuck says country things like “turrble”

Perk says country things like “keep a cool booty”

If they want him to be their Chuck, this is the most off brand attempt ever
2768649, Yeah - Chuck’s ability to be self-depreciating is unique
Posted by soulfunk, Fri Jun-24-22 11:46 AM
because it gives him the credibility to say some WILD stuff. Like the clip of him talking about golfers leaving the PGA for LIV and “I’d kill a family member for 200 million.” ONLY Chuck can get away with saying that - funny as heck with just enough of a hint of truth to make you pause for a second lol…

>Chuck is an all time great, with a singular charm and

2768654, He did a lengthy riff about seasoning chicken last night.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Jun-24-22 12:21 PM
And I thought, "I don't even think Chuck would go this low."
2768678, FWIW, my sister who is a casual NBA fan really likes Perk
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Fri Jun-24-22 10:10 PM
For her, and I'm imagining a lot of more casual fans, they relate to his down-home personality and his directness. They respect that he's a former player and that he can speak from experience.

Like a lot of you, I'm ambivalent about him. I know he has that podcast with Marcus Spears, another analyst with an over-the-top, big personality. But Marcus, to me, is a much better analyst because he is a better communicator and has a larger body of knowledge to pull from than just his experiences as a player. I don't think Perk shows a great faculty discussing nuances of the game. Now, it's worth noting that on The Old Man and the Three with JJ Redick, Perk basically said that he tries to speak to both casual fans and those who are more numbers-based. But as someone who likes to hear about the strategic analysis of basketball, I rarely come away from an interview or hit by Perk feeling like I learned something new. In fact, I often wonder why he's getting so much exposure. (like his take before the Finals that Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum were the best players in the series. Or he said something to that effect)

But like you all say, Chuck is one-of-a-kind in that he has an outsized and relatable way to him (like Perk, in doses), but he also can communicate his understanding of basketball very well, something I don't think Perk does well. (i don't always agree with Barkley, but some of his takes are compelling)

2768629, Klutch working OT for his mushmouthed ass
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jun-23-22 09:42 PM
2768638, I watched a good bit last night. Thought he was terrible
Posted by Tiger Woods, Fri Jun-24-22 08:01 AM
There’s some great hoops minds at ESPN right now, namely Richard Jefferson and JJ Reddick and of course Jalen Rose. I haven’t a clue how Perkins got this assignment. He has no inspired ideas and is just generally poor on TV.
2768650, Whenever I see Perkins, I always think of two OKS comments...
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Jun-24-22 11:51 AM
...about him.

First was by Dula: "He looks like he beats his kids over something petty... like losing a mitten."

And the other was a poster who's handle I've long since forgotten: "Kendrick Perkins looks like he eats sandwiches in caves."
2768651, long before he became a talking head
Posted by Numba_33, Fri Jun-24-22 12:00 PM
there was someone on here that said Perkins looked like C.H.U.D.

Even typing that out put a nice smirk on my face, and I never saw that movie. I wish I could remember who came up with that reference so I could give them credit.
2768652, Sandwiches in caves. LMAO!
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Fri Jun-24-22 12:07 PM
2768653, Before I clicked on your reply, I was already chuckling…
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Jun-24-22 12:11 PM
but, my memory is fucking with me. I thought it was…sandwiches is sewers. Either way…such a memorable line from the past.
2768666, Sandwiches in caves. Jesus Christ.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Jun-24-22 01:42 PM

2768682, Lmaoooooooooooo, I’m pretty sure that was Orbit_Established

2768684, Ha. It wasn’t O_E. I remember it was someone who went through A LOT of
Posted by mrhood75, Sat Jun-25-22 11:15 AM
..screen names. That one happened to be the funniest.
2768670, he's not bad in small doses imo. like, he has a personality
Posted by RandomFact, Fri Jun-24-22 03:43 PM
and it pains me to say this as I hated him as a player.

lots of these ex-player talking head guys have trouble translating a somewhat entertaining personality to live tv. even draymond has been pretty mid in his few stints with tnt.

but in small doses i actually think perk is halfway decent, especially when paired with rjeff.

but he should have NEVER been assigned two plus hours of draft duty. that shit was grating.
2768658, lowkey pissed
Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Jun-24-22 01:10 PM
OKC taking our dudes off the board, with a Knicks/Hornets assist.
Detroit enriched as a result.
Rockets end up with Jabari, Tari, TyTy
Pacers get Mathurin AND Nembhard (two guys I would have liked)
Spurs end up with 5022 guards
Bulls take Dalen Terry (was on my board)
FUCKIN WARRIORS TOOK PBJ!!!
Cavs pass on AJ Griffin, then Kendall Brown, stash two picks

Ochai's cool. Hopefully he updates the spacing. Isaiah Mobley will be a NBA player (he has NBA skills just not the athleticism).

But damn if this wasn't a blowing. Guess I gotta wait for FAgency. Tired of the repeated dodging of a natural SF. LeBron is not coming back through that door, and this team was injuries away from the playoffs last season.
2768662, we were certainly enriched
Posted by cgonz00cc, Fri Jun-24-22 01:22 PM
i still dont understand what exactly we gave up to acquire Duren. it seems kinda like nothing 😂

and i agree about the Pacers. Mathurin is probably gonna be real good
2768665, Detroit had such a slam dunk draft.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Jun-24-22 01:41 PM
If we held a vote and asked "which team has the best backcourt 4 years from now?" I think Detroit would finish, like, top 2 or 3 in that vote. Ivey and Cunningham just make *so* much sense together.

And Duren, if he delivers (and plays better than he did last year), could be really terrific value as that rim-running big on a rookie deal. Maybe doesn't quite have Ivey or Cunningham's upside, but there's All-Defense potential there if his motor is running.
2768683, Indiana gonna be dealing a good deal of their players
Posted by Dr Claw, Sat Jun-25-22 11:13 AM
I wonder if Myles stays on for the rebuild or looks to hop on elsewhere (Dallas if they can afford it)

Detroit now has a Ja Morant-esque guard to go with Cade. And Duren. And I think Marv is going to be a good rotational big. Already a pain in the ass on the perimeter for teams who can't defend it.

Possible play-in candidate? We'll see how the East shakes out.
2768685, I will say this about Ochai, he's a better 2 for DG/The Cavs
Posted by Dr Claw, Sat Jun-25-22 11:18 AM
than anyone else they have on their roster on paper. He doesn't need the ball in his hand, he moves great off ball, and he can SHOOT with a great motion, defends very well and flexibly. Like Okoro, his handle is ass, and also doesn't do anything for you in the midrange thus far. (with Okoro, I think it's a matter of confidence. The few times he actually midranged it up it looked good).

Don't think Sexton is endangered though, I think he's going to be groomed into being the point guard of the bench unit. Brandon Goodwin filled in a good deal last season; Sexton can do what he did and more.

Rubio is definitely going to come back but he ain't seeing the court before 3. Ample time for Sexton to get some real time with a better team (even off the bench) than what he came into.

2768671, Jaden Ivey with some strong Detroit ties…
Posted by soulfunk, Fri Jun-24-22 04:07 PM
Today they surprised him with jerseys from his grandfather who played for the Lions, his father who played for Detroit Country Day, and his mother who played for the Detroit Shock…
