2765530, ^^^glove over Kidd

Ban this dude from all sports.

And Steph isn’t a PG. he is more like a shooting guard /combo guard.
That’s why isn’t mentioned in top pg lists...he isn’t a floor general and doesn’t
run the point.

Draymond is the PG of the team.
2765539, personally I think Glove and Kid are closer than most people think...

Payton spent the majority of his prime in the northwest and Kidd got to spend a significant part of his prime in the northeast and got more media hype.

1. Kidd took 2 different teams to the championship, and went back
to back with the Nets. Every team he went to he turned them into a contender.

2. Kidd is second in career assists. Led the league in assists 5 times.
Gary Payton never led the league in assists.

3. Kidd is top 5 in triple doubles. Payton ain’t even on the list

4. Kidd avg 8.7 assist a game, Payton avg like 6.5

Kidd: 6 all-defensive teams, 8 all nba teams, 10 all star appearances
Payton: 9 all defense teams, 9 all nba teams, 9 allStar teams

Rebounds: not even close..Kidd

Scoring: Gary Payton avg 3 points more

Jason Kidd was the true all around PG, that made everyone better.....

Payton lacked the ability to truly facilitate. He was a great defensive PG,
but everything else goes to Kidd...hands down

But no GM is taking Payton over Kidd to build around...

Payton made Kemp better

Kidd had Jackson, Mashburn, Martin, Jefferson, Carter, Matrix, Dirk....
He took all those teams and players to the next level.

GP took 2 different teams to the Finals too, winning 1 late in his career just like Kidd

>Kidd: 6 all-defensive teams, 8 all nba teams, 10 all star

>Payton: 9 all defense teams, 9 all nba teams, 9 allStar teams

Payton, DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

so Kidd played with more talent in their primes? I agree with that.

Like I said its closer than people think.

GP went head to head with Mike in the Finals and gave him PROBLEMS.

Actually played in finals with 3 teams - 2004 Lakers as well. Though I’d say he “took” one team there. He was a starter but along for the ride in LA. And he was a role player in Miami. Not the same. Same is true to an extent with Kidd in Dallas.

Both great defenders, though GP gets the edge. Kidd just a far better offensive PG for a team though IMO. GP’s driveway backdowns were a hard watch.

He underachieved this year but he’s 37 and lead the team to the best record in the league despite being washed

He’ll go down as one of the greatest ringless ever (Barkley Malone Nash etc )
2765546, This was a little tougher than I expected...
Posted by Marbles, Tue May-17-22 03:50 PM

Magic Johnson
Jason Kidd
Isiah Thomas
Gary Payton
John Stockton

Honorable Mentions: Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Tony Parker(?)

Guys I liked but who may not be in the conversation: Chauncey Billups, Rod Strickland, Rajon Rondo, Baron Davis, Mark Price, Steph Marbury, Chauncey Billups

I don't see Steph Curry as a PG.

I notice that people aren't listing Steph, which is fine. But where would you slot him then? He isn't quite a shooting guard either.

And it's not like people make Top 5 combo guard lists.

I guess he's similar in AI in that they were definitely impactful on winning, but not in ways that conventional means pinpoint.

So, where would you slot him?
2765798, you're right, similar to AI, Steph does blur the lines between positions...

Its tough because by definition Steph is a point by where is in GS's lineup and he does have point guard skills even though that is not his primary role in the offense. I've talked before about how difficult it is to compare player across eras. If forced to I'd have to put him in the top 5.
