2755285, 2021/22 NFL Playoffs: Wild Card Weekend
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Jan-14-22 10:10 AM
Saturday:

Raiders at Bengals 430 ET
Pats at Bills 815 ET

Sunday:

Eagles at Bucs 100 ET
49ers at Cowboys 430 ET
Steelers at Chiefs 815 ET

Monday:

Cardinals at Rams 815 ET
2755291, Nervous but I think they should get the win
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jan-14-22 12:30 PM
If they have a game like they did vs Denver or Arizona then it might be time to move on from McCarthy and/or Moore. I doubt Jerry would fire either this offseason though.

Picks:
Bengals
Pats

Bucs
Cowboys
Chiefs

Cardinals
2755292, protection is going to be key…
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Jan-14-22 01:00 PM
if we don’t figure out Donald, Floyd and Miller…nothing else will matter. Season over. I believe we can get a couple gifts off Stafford, though.
2755297, RE: protection is going to be key…
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jan-14-22 01:41 PM
Playing the 49ers this week...

Am I making a dumb connection that basically every time they go with a different OL compared to the last game they struggle? I think last week was the only exception this year that I noticed. I know some players are more key than others but to me it seems having the same players from game to game has had a huge impact.

I do think Parsons is going to be huge this game.

If the Cowboys can limit their run game then I think they will have a great game.
2755300, Dst was a Cardinals fan for a moment there
Posted by HecticHavoc, Fri Jan-14-22 01:49 PM
glad to see you picking the Cardinals

we are such a damn good team when healthy, the pieces are slowly getting back on the field but still no DHop. if the O-line starts and Conner and Edmonds can contribute fully healthy we can mask Hops absense a little bit, but it'll be the defensive pressure and ability to stop Michel on early downs to get us this win. Kyler will need to carry us but the defense has to give him a few gifts for this to be possible
2755301, I don't understand why they keep losing steam towards the end
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jan-14-22 01:58 PM
I didn't watch the Seahawks game, did their starters play?

Rams vs Cardinals is a good match up. It's a toss up to be honest but I think the Rams are a bit more flustered at the moment. Just getting in the playoffs might be enough to boost the Cardinals into a win or two. Definitely a talented team.
2755302, i dont either. seems like Kliff cant adjust
Posted by HecticHavoc, Fri Jan-14-22 02:03 PM
he gets figured out and the offense cant adapt. dealt with rough injuries too but no excuse to lose that Seattle game. i think no Rondale Moore has hurt a lot he is a magician. Ertz addition has helped too, but a lot of the blame seems to go toward Kliff unable to adjust when he's figured out.

interesting tidbit: since Kliff and Kyler joined the league, McVay's Rams have ended our season. I know our team wants this rematch and to elevate out of their shadow. its a tall task, LA is really talented.
2755304, LMAO, man that’s about the 3rd time I’ve done that, this week…
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Jan-14-22 02:19 PM
I’ll hold the mental L for that. Dunno why I keep imagining we’re playing the Rams. 🤦🏾‍♂️
2755305, I’m SO worried about Debo…
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Jan-14-22 02:25 PM
linebackers gonna be important as fuck, limiting him..cuz if he gets it the 3rd level, no corner/safety can handle him.
2755313, do you think parsons will focus on him?
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jan-14-22 05:06 PM
2755315, The way Quinn can deploy him…
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Jan-14-22 05:17 PM
I could see it. He’s the only one fast enough AND physical enough to keep him in check. I dunno if we plan to go after Jimmy a bunch, but I feel good about a fresh Tank Lawrence and Randy Gregory.
2755658, they are who we thought they are
Posted by mista k5, Mon Jan-17-22 12:35 PM
plenty of blame to go around. they didnt commit to the run. sf came prepared and started the game how they wanted to on both sides. if it werent for injuries i doubt this even gets close enough for all the dumb penalties/decisions and bad execution to matter.

this team needs a big wake up call.
2755294, Steelers about to shock the world!!!
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jan-14-22 01:30 PM
Final score:

Steelers 20
KC 16
2755298, I wouldn't be mad at that
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jan-14-22 01:43 PM
Steelers gotta be hyped after that Sunday night game finish. Seems like they were 40 seconds and a timeout away from staying home.

2755310, If Eagles pull this off I will LMAO
Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Jan-14-22 05:01 PM
I expect Boody to pass to wide open receivers all day, hand off a few times and if things get tough, he'll over throw Gronk or some jabroni WR and get a flag to put him in the red zone. If things get in "almost losing to the Jets" mode, NFL hits the "Boody Wins" button.

That's what the Eagles are up against. It was a 6-point game that should have had 2 INTs the first time, and that's with all of the Bucs heavy hitters on offense in place.
2755314, im lowkey rooting for them
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jan-14-22 05:07 PM
2755400, i only want bucs to win cuz they have the best shot to beat gb.

2755369, Bengals vs Raiders. Can’t help but think of the Bo Jackson injury ;(
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Sat Jan-15-22 12:57 PM
That was about 31 years ago. In just one play, Bo went from superhuman to a mere mortal. I’m 39 years old, so obviously was pretty damn young at the time and don’t recall watching the game. But I do distinctly remember hearing about it from my older brother and seeing it on Sportscenter later that day. Maybe I’m beating a dead horse, but I really don’t think some people truly understand just how incredibly fun he was to watch and just how revered he was. Next to MJ, there was no athlete as popular to Bo in the late 80s/early 90s. Such a shame his career ended so abruptly as he was nearing his peak.

2755374, Great reply...
Posted by Dstl1, Sat Jan-15-22 02:13 PM
I actually remember watching it with my dad, but I had NO comprehension of how bad it was/would be. I figured he'd be out the rest of the game, be back next Sunday. I remember how jarring it was when he came back to baseball with that very pronounced limp. Sounds silly, in retrospect, but Bo was rhe one guy who my friends and I thought was indestructible. We just didn't think injury would ever befall him. Figured he'd just play, break every record and then retire cuz he didn't feel like playing anymore.
2755375, Damn, Ju Ju playing todsy...today...I had forgot about dude for this season

Posted by Dstl1, Sat Jan-15-22 10:08 PM
and Allen barely moved his arm.
2755420, I am still shocked that Allen is playing this well
Posted by calij81, Sat Jan-15-22 10:13 PM
I remember watching him at Wyoming and thinking he has a great arm but that was about it. His first two season he looked average at best and was basically a 55% passers. Hard to believe this is the same guy.
2755419, Chargers should have hired the Bills OC
Posted by calij81, Sat Jan-15-22 10:10 PM
Brandon Staley is overrated and is a bad DC without Donald and Ramsey. To make matters worse he hired a bad OC in Lombardi.

No reason for the Chargers OC to not be using Herbert like Buffalo uses Allen. Herbert is a better runner and athlete than Allen and his arm is just as strong.

2755429, giving me flashbacks of 1990 AFC Championship when Bills routed Raiders
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Sat Jan-15-22 11:02 PM
that was maybe the most one-sided blowout i've ever seen, but somehow was also one of the most fun to watch with the Bills running laps around the Raiders in the snow in Buffalo. Their no-huddle offense was so awesome that year, that was the apotheosis of it.
2755431, 30-point BUFFALO-ING.
Posted by Dr Claw, Sat Jan-15-22 11:19 PM
all that siceage for the Cheatriots after they threw 3 times, ran the ball 1000x and won in Buffalo.

Since then: BUFFALO'D in Foxboro, BUFFALO'D in the wild card in Orchard Park on a 9 degree night. Buffalo did not punt in either game.

Josh Allen is the real deal. Buffalo figured out how to run the ball... a running Buffalo Bills team is one of the most dangerous in the league.
2755452, Jerome Boger and his crew being sat down...
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Jan-16-22 10:43 AM
I figured someone was gonna have to catch one, for that. They really fucked that up. Inadvertent whistle, they were supposed to call the play dead and replay the down. If I was a Raiders fan, I'd be seething.
2755462, damn, Wirfs may be out for good

2755463, NFL hitting the 'Boody Wins' button early
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-16-22 01:17 PM
with that "roughing the passer call". Even the Fox Crew agreed it was a bad call. Would have been a punt, took them out of punt territory and lead to a TD.
2755464, fuck the Pats
Posted by will_5198, Sun Jan-16-22 01:27 PM
they have a team constructed for regular season (Mac included). when it's win-or-go-home, they don't have the studs to tilt a game anymore.

who is supposed to scare teams on offense? the top receivers were two undrafted free agents and a journeyman. Belichick spent big money on Jonnu Smith and I couldn't even tell you what he's good at.

and the defense last night...Patriots probably have the worst team speed of any playoff team. Hightower and McCourty are more like on-field coaches than difference-makers.

Belichick the GM is responsible for all this. even if a certain somebody had stayed, this team isn't good enough to fight at the top of the playoff field. that 2019 draft was a disgrace:

1 - WR N'Keal Harry (Mr. Invisible; taken ahead of Deebo, AJ Brown, DK Metcalf all in the next 30 picks)
2 - CB JoeJuan Williams (repeatedly burned all his career)
3 - LB Chase Winovich (healthy scratch last night)
3 - RB Damien Harris (good player)
3 - OT Yodny Cajuste (healthy scratch even though their starting LT was hurt)
2755471, all that siceage over the '3 pass game' and the rout of the Browns
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-16-22 01:50 PM
I really wish Boody never left so he would have to deal with this shit.

the outcome of this game, so, fuckit, i welcome the stress chemicals.

defense changing from bend don't break to bend and then fuck you up is encouraging. offense *should* be able to do better in 2nd half. maybe that's enough to make it a game.

we'll see.

2755485, Yep. the only WR that can really do that for them is Smith
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-16-22 02:45 PM
and the Bucs are completely on his ass. That crossing route was one way to get around it, but either pressure or bad reading made Jalen throw the other way to Reagor of all people.

The Eagles need to look at getting a WR with the third first rounder, and make sure Howie is nowhere near the scouting room

2755503, yeah. I look at it like this:
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-16-22 04:04 PM
- Bucs defense is too much for this young team that is heavily run based. that's why they won more than anything else.

- the Eagles were not beaten by the Bucs offense, they just filled a role. they could have kicked field goals and won tbh

- Eagles defense is mid, Eagles offense needs a "Jeremy Maclin" to go with Devonta, Jalen needs experience (if he survives as QB)

- the Eagles have 3 first rounders, and really only Dallas to worry about in division. Both Washington and New York are behind in their re-development.

- at least this game wasn't a shutout, but it was over in the 3rd.

- Fuck Tom Brady, now and forever.

Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-16-22 05:25 PM
both Jefferson and Metcalf were horrible misses, reminiscent of the Reid-era drafts of WRs.

Either one of those guys would have made the Eagles a much better team. They're going to struggle for a bit without some extra help in the passing game.

2755527, Hurts have everything you want in QB, except accuracy.
Posted by allStah, Sun Jan-16-22 05:50 PM
That should be his main focus in the offseason. He threw away at least
14 points. The defense made several 3 and out stops, only for
the offense to squander away opportunities to score.

Goedart balled the fock out, though.

2755530, Accuracy is one thing. I think patience and timing is his problem
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-16-22 06:04 PM
He improves those things and he is more accurate.

With just a hair more anticipation that pick he had in the endzone at the end of the 1st half is a TD.

Whatever his experience is, he moves out of the pocket too early even if he makes the right decision downfield.

And sometimes he makes the wrong decision -- like missing Smith on the crossing route that would have had him open.

Some people say that if you make it all the way to the NFL with those qualities it might be a done deal, but I think another season with the Eagles may give him an opportunity to build on that.

He's essentially a rookie, as this is his first season as an actual starter.

So I put him in the same standards I might any of the rookie QBs this year.

I blame coaching. They are too talented to play like this. They need a coach

Zeke can block his ass off though. He took out 2 top linemen as if they were bowling ball pens.shit

Making the playoffs. If chargers won then the Raiders would’ve been eliminated and the Steelers would have still gotten in.

Basically saying that the Chargers and Raiders would have produced a better games to watch.
2755607, RE: A tie would have sent both teams and the only way to avoid the Steelers

If Raiders won, they would have faced Chiefs. I'd rather take chances with Bengals which almost worked out. Going for win was right call
2755615, Absolutely if you’re a Raiders fan you want the win and avoid KC but
Posted by calij81, Sun Jan-16-22 10:42 PM
If you’re not a Raiders fan and want the best matchups then a tie would be better.

I think the Raiders would have lost to KC but it would have been closer than this. I actually think the Chargers and KC would be a great matchup as both their games were close and entertaining but that wasn’t possible with a tie.
2755623, Correct - I don’t care about any of these teams

The NFL gets their extra game and extra MNF
Maybe tonight's game will actually be good
But that was an entire weekend of bad football
Including historic defeats
There just aren't 14 good teams in the NFL.
2755648, There is parity. Blame the Chargers, Colts, Vikings, etc
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Mon Jan-17-22 11:00 AM
Teams that were obviously better than someone like the Steelers or Eagles. The better teams didn't do what was necessary and took themselves out of it. Chargers and Chiefs would have been another good game. There's parity, the teams just failed to finish out strong.
2755649, ?
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-17-22 11:07 AM
I'm not following your argument
Better teams that weren't good enough to get in the torney...would have faired better?

Chargers Lost to LAV in a Win and your in game...
Colts and Minny were in the same situations...no?

They choked... but would've done better against playoff teams?

They also would've been low seeds playing considerably better teams

Look...I get it...extra week... extra teams...extra games is more money for the league

But that was bad football.
2755664, RE: ?
Posted by go mack, Mon Jan-17-22 01:39 PM
3 of the games came to the wire, 3 were blowouts. KC was expected to blow out Chiefs, no surprise as blew them out several weeks ago. First half was surprising that it took them a while to get in gear. Bills and Pats wasn't expected to be the blowout it was, happens. Bucs went about how it was expected but their was hope from Philly fans they'd play better. I expect tonight's game to be more competitive but could be wrong. All in all, Im fine with the extra games I guess.

2755665, RE: 3 games came down to the wire?
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-17-22 02:07 PM
Ehh... carefully worded...those games weren't competitive
Yeah, some miracle could've happened where maybe they got to over time...
But that's my point
It wasn't good football
5 playoff games shouldn't be a wing and a prayer
Which 3?
LAV was down big early and got garbage time scores to at least make the score respectable
Same with DAL
What's the 3rd?
KC
BUF
and TB were blowouts
?
2755668, RE: 3 games came down to the wire?

>LAV was down big early and got garbage time scores to at least

the very last play in the LV game was for OT and they didn't convert
the very last play in the Dallas game would have been for the W if they didn't fuck up.

>What's the 3rd?

there was no 3rd
2755687, DAL was down 23-7 in the 4th
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-17-22 06:09 PM
LAV was down 20-6 until a score right before half

Did you watch the games?
At no point did I think they had a chance..

I didn't see good football
I saw teams that were outmatched
You disagree?
2755693, AND wound literally a play away from winning the game
Posted by Mynoriti, Mon Jan-17-22 06:58 PM
>Did you watch the games?

Was gonna ask you the same thing

>At no point did I think they had a chance..

What are you talking about? Each team had a shot on the last play of the game and came up short. These weren't even hail mary/two onside kick/only a miracle situations.

The Raiders were first and goal for the tie to go into OT. They've already had 5 walk off games this season on comebacks like this
Dallas was one dumb ass play call from getting into the end zone and winning.

That's literally the opposite of you saying this was just garbage time and teams just wanted to make the score respectable
2755696, I'll put it another way
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-17-22 07:24 PM
What's the chances of a team coming back from a 2 TD defecit or more in a playoff game?

You're talking about historic comebacks

I never thought it was happening

<shrug>

But you still didn't answer the question

You saw quality football this weekend?
2755700, lol dude
Posted by Mynoriti, Mon Jan-17-22 08:04 PM
>What's the chances of a team coming back from a 2 TD defecit
>or more in a playoff game?

slightly less than each team being one play away from winning and falling one play short. you know. the thing that actually happened lol

>You're talking about historic comebacks

The Raiders were down 10 going into the 4th. scoring twice in a quarter isn't exactly historic. Dallas win would have been more impressive since i think they were down 3 scores... but again they were right there. none of this was garbage time.

>But you still didn't answer the question
>
>You saw quality football this weekend?

yes/no two weren't very competitive, and two games came down to the last play. I don't see any cause for alarm

not every play-off game is like the movies.
2755737, LoL@you
Posted by bentagain, Tue Jan-18-22 04:17 AM
I was trying to move to the topic to something objective
I'm sure there's a stat for teams down 14 points or more in a playoff game... wasn't asking for your opinion
What can't be argued...teams trailing by 14 points or more were 0-6 in wildcard weekend 2022
4/6 of the games were blowouts = bad football.
2755752, lol you could have made your point without making things up

i replied to a specific claim you made that DAL and LV were just garbage time and trying to pad the score.

but you can't even seem to admit you were wrong about that much, wording things weirdly like "LV was down 20-6 before they scored a touchdown before halftime" lol

yes lots of blow outs this weekend. It doesn't really prove much other than there were lots of blow outs this weekend. maybe it will in time, sure, but this is one season. it's not like anyone considered the Rams/Cards a big mismatch going in

2755764, Found objective data for DAL and LAV b/w LOL@making up scores
Posted by bentagain, Tue Jan-18-22 02:35 PM
anyway;
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/win_prob.cgi
SF up 16 points at 5:50 in the 3rd = 98% win probability
CIN up 14 points at 7:55 in the 2nd = 90% win probability

+1, you conceded the other 4 games
4/6 = a majority of the games were poo poo
2s

You realize these percentages change as the game changes, right? Conveniently picking a spot before both teams came back and put them in an actual position on the last play of each respective game to win/tie is just goofy.

Or pretending i said you were "making up scores" when you were making up scenarios of teams "playing for garbage time and just trying to make scores look respectable

but please, go look up more stuff on the internet instead of conceding one simple point

+1, you conceded the other 4 games
4/6 = a majority of the games were poo poo

yes, congrats on me conceding a point i never made. but it if makes you feel better, sure.

Have it your way
LAV had a 4% win probability down 7 with 1:51 remaining...
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/win_prob.cgi?request=1&score_differential=-7&vegas_line=%2B6&quarter=4&minutes=1&seconds=51&field=team&yds_from_goal=35
DAL had a 4.67% win probability down 6 win :32 remaining...
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/win_prob.cgi?request=1&score_differential=-6&vegas_line=-3.5&quarter=4&minutes=0&seconds=32&field=team&yds_from_goal=20

I chose the points in the game where they were down 14 or more and I felt the game was over

Per your request...LAV odds got worse

Why you mad?

Still don't see you disagreeing with me that the games where shyte
2755776, You honestly believe both teams were trying to pad numbers?
Posted by Mynoriti, Tue Jan-18-22 05:05 PM
and not trying to win? You really beleive that?
These were final plays. These weren't miracles.

fair enough on the stat thing. i don't feel like looking up what the yardage on the final play of the game is, but analytics aren't everything. Neither of these would have been miracle wins. they would have been comebacks (in the 9ers case a melt down)
I would assume the week before percentages were far lower on Justin Herbert converting on all those 4th downs and even putting them in a tying position.

>Why you mad?

more pretending lol. ain't nobody mad, bro

>

lol for the howmanyith time i never said most games were good. i pushed back on 2 games that you said did'nt come down to the wire. when by definition they did.

2755780, ngl i got curious
Posted by Mynoriti, Tue Jan-18-22 06:01 PM
final play of the Raider/Bengal game came up as 9.25%

4th Quarter, 0:17 remaining, trailing by 7, ball at opp 9, 4th down & 9 to go

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/win_prob.cgi?request=1&score_differential=-7&vegas_line=%2B6&quarter=4&minutes=0&seconds=17&field=opp&yds_from_goal=9&down=4&yds_to_go=9

jumps 14% on 3rd down, and 16% on 2nd (which they didn't convert)

Chiefs and Chargers split the season series 1-1 and both games were entertaining. I'm saying you dont base a new seven team approach on one year. You wouldnt be saying that if the Chargers coach didnt fuck up and they got in and had a round 3 with the Chiefs. Even the six-team playoff let in a SeaHawks team with a losing record and they proceeded to beat the Saints. Shit happens. More playoff games isnt a bad thing.
2755692, But I can judge this year

Disagree?
2755663, The 7 seeds do not belong at all.
Posted by pretentious username, Mon Jan-17-22 01:36 PM
In the NBA or NHL, you occasionally get an exciting 7 or 8 seed with a shot to win. In MLB, a team on the periphery of the playoff picture can get hot in September and ride that wave throughout October. In the NFL, I just don’t see the 7 seed ever having a chance. There’s gonna be a lot of years, like this one, where the 2 seed is probably the best team in the conference, and they beat the 7 seed so bad that you wonder why they bothered with the game.
2755647, I don’t normally watch First Take, but…

2755650, I actually appreciated Orlovsky's analysis this morning
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-17-22 11:12 AM
Didn't even cross my mind that DAL was trying to run 3 plays in 14 seconds

I might check out first take .. it's pretty funny after Cowboy collapses

But

This is also the network that featured DAL in the A block all year and called them SB contenders after punching down vs PHL and WSH

It would be so much more entertaining to call those analysts to the carpet this morning

Bet money the Cowboys are still featured in subsequent shows... even though they're stuck on suck.

Injuries has impacted both of their careers. That being said, I think Zeke has had the better career thus far.

Zeke has double the rushing yards; but McCaffrey has roughly 800 more receiving yards. Zeke has 11 more career touchdowns.

2755679, Who had the better o-line during their span? (I only watch playoff NFL tbh )

•Eagles, Patriots, Raiders, & Steelers got that ass whipped (they never had a chance)
•Cardinals got that ass whipped by the better team (Murray's been exposed, Cards struggled for the last leg of the season)

Managing expectations.

also Chiefs and AFC South (Colts, Titans)

2755751, Fool's Gold to some Extent All Season
Posted by cp900, Tue Jan-18-22 11:44 AM
Their fall-off is definitely a testament (in part) to how great D-Hop is. They have 5 or 6 throw it up to D-hop explicit plays per game and a few more where Murray got in trouble and threw it in his general direction. The conversion rate on those was super impressive.

Once he got hurt things drastically changed. KK doesn't look all that "creative" once you take out those plays. Then dudes started getting hurt in the secondary and things slid even further.

Jordan Hicks can't cover (which is probably why they drafted Collins) then Collins wasn't ready, so teams exploited Hicks more and more as the season went on.

I also think Murray has a similar issue as Russel Wilson in that due to their stature, once they get a ball batted or tipped at the line a couple times, they get gun shy when linemen wave into their vision and hold the ball too long.
2755715, Why wasn’t this game played on Saturday? How did the NFLPA
