2754687, i like what I've seen out of the Broncos this year
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sun Jan-09-22 10:41 AM
they get the right QB in there that's 3-4 more wins this year.
2754688, didn't yall cape for this guy? yikes
Posted by falafel stand pimpin, Sun Jan-09-22 10:47 AM
The Lions and OC Anthony Lynn are expected to part ways following today’s game, sources say. One of the more respected leaders as a HC, it was never a good fit as OC for Lynn in Detroit. He had play-calling duties stripped earlier, and now both sides appear set to walk away.
2754697, I wonder where he'll pop up
Posted by The Real, Sun Jan-09-22 12:24 PM

2754699, It was high time they turned the play calling over...
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Jan-09-22 12:30 PM
to the offensive genius, Dan Campbell.
2754689, Itll be interesting 2 see who they get, does Elway still call the shots?
Posted by ThaTruth, Sun Jan-09-22 11:06 AM
Friday the rumors were the Jags were looking at Leftwich. I think TL will be a good building block but he needs a good GM to build out the team.

Lewis Riddick was supposedly a hot GM name early last year to the point where the rest of the MNF crew basically said farewell early. I feel like they may have jinxed him.

I wonder if Bienemy will get a shot or has his time passed.

2754691, The Denver firing makes no sense.. Teddy Bridgewater?
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Jan-09-22 11:15 AM
Is that really a QB who sets a HC up for success?

John Elway is the one who needs to go.

2754694, Elway gave up GM duties in 2020
Posted by will_5198, Sun Jan-09-22 11:50 AM
and will probably be completely out this offseason, especially if the team sells
2754700, That just makes the firing worse
Posted by bentagain, Sun Jan-09-22 01:00 PM
I get it
Old yt dude
But turnstile at QB
turnover at GM
Covid
Von missed 2020 and got traded
What were they expecting?
The team I saw yesterday…Drew Lock at QB with a chance to beat the AFC champs…looked well coached
They don’t have the talent to be better than their record.
2754702, haven’t watched them much this year but yesterday they looked well coached
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Jan-09-22 01:02 PM
did they expect playoffs or a SB run?
2754705, Bridgewater was good when he was healthy
Posted by ThaTruth, Sun Jan-09-22 01:52 PM
2754825, he's a stop gap and his arm is shot

2754698, Rumor is David Culley is going to be out
Posted by The Real, Sun Jan-09-22 12:28 PM
How could any coach be successful with that dumpster fire?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2754701, what a terrible organization
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Jan-09-22 01:01 PM
2754704, I feel like he was a placeholder anyway

2754706, right, once Houston knew they couldn’t play freaky Jason…
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Jan-09-22 01:58 PM
they just offered Cullen the gig. They knew they weren’t going anywhere.
2754708, Placeholder for what though?
Posted by The Real, Sun Jan-09-22 02:21 PM
There seems to be zero planning here.

2754711, The org was already in flux then the Deshaun thing really threw them…
Posted by ThaTruth, Sun Jan-09-22 02:35 PM
>There seems to be zero planning here.

for a loop, they’ll definitely be starting over from scratch, unless Culley did something miraculous he was never going the have that job for more than a year
2754740, Did they think hiring a Black QB would make DeShaun happy?
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Jan-09-22 05:03 PM
just weird to hire dude for 1 year and fire him when they actually looked okay all things considered
2754710, It was a strange hire but I think he has done fairly well
Posted by calij81, Sun Jan-09-22 02:24 PM
He mostly played a rookie QB and it is a full on rebuild in Houston and I felt Houston played hard for the most part this season.

This is shocking. I thought Grier would have been fired before Flores or both would be fired together.

2754855, Huge gamble but it worked out to perfection
Posted by calij81, Mon Jan-10-22 10:19 AM
Hitting on the 16th pick would just be icing on the cake at this point.

How did you get the Miami pick? Was that a trade back in the draft with Miami?
2754869, there was a bunch of pick swaps in the last draft
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-10-22 10:52 AM
I think we moved up and then moved back...not exactly sure of the transactions

...but basically, one of those moves, MIA gave up the 2022 pick to move up to 6 in 2021...

Several teams could/should dump their coach and get Flores. I’m down with that.

I wonder what Zimmer is gonna do..chill? DC for revenge? Get another middle of the road gig and hope his qb isn’t Kirky?
2754861, I could see him end up as the DC for a middling squad

2754862, It seems Miami picked Grier and Tua over Flores
Posted by calij81, Mon Jan-10-22 10:27 AM
I would expect Miami to go with an offensive minded coach in an effort to help Tua.

It never seemed like Flores wanted Tua or trusted him.
2754877, yeah Flores was never a Tua guy...

Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross Addresses If Team Plans to Target Jim Harbaugh

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross made clear on Monday that the team does not plan on trying to hire Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh back to the NFL, and to have Harbaugh succeed Brian Flores as Miami's coach.

“I'm not going to be the one who takes Jim Harbaugh away from the University of Michigan,” Ross told reporters.

Ross, a Michigan alumnus and booster of the football program, addressed possible Harbaugh buzz in the same press conference in which he elaborated on the team's firing of Flores.

Flores was let go on Monday after only three seasons, and despite winning 19 games over the past two years.

Harbaugh, the current Wolverines coach, has not coached in the NFL since 2014, when he was with the 49ers. However, in recent weeks, reports of Harbaugh's possible return to the NFL have intensified.

The former 49ers coach is once again on the NFL radar, The MMQB has reported. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported that Harbaugh could be tempted to make his return to the NFL, citing both Michigan and league sources.

Ross's comments confirmed a report from both ESPN and The MMQB, in which both outlets said Flores's firing was unrelated to Harbaugh.

According to ESPN, Flores's firing was related to deteriorating relationships with general manager Chris Grier and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Harbaugh went 44-19-1 in four seasons during his time with 49ers, which spanned 2011–2014, making a Super Bowl appearance in his second season.
2754894, That “I’m not going to be the one…
Posted by Dstl1, Mon Jan-10-22 01:39 PM
to take Harbaugh from Michigan” line sounds bogus as hell, lol. All he did was leave the door open should Harbaugh “decide” to leave.
2754896, He's the biggest donor the Michigan athletic department has...
Posted by soulfunk, Mon Jan-10-22 01:46 PM
So I really doubt he'd be screwing us over, especially considering the above statement.
2754907, Yeah, I read that line as Harbaugh might leave Michigan but
Posted by calij81, Mon Jan-10-22 03:20 PM
I won’t be the one to hire him from Michigan.
2754908, Exactly...here's the full quote for context...
Posted by soulfunk, Mon Jan-10-22 03:26 PM
“I love Jim Harbaugh,” Ross said. “He had the opportunity once before to come to the Miami Dolphins.”

But, Ross added, “He’s at the University of Michigan as everybody really knows. That is the school that I graduated from and I’m very involved in it, and I’m not going to be the person that takes Jim Harbaugh from the University of Michigan. I hope he stays there. He is a great coach.”

Posted by guru0509, Tue Jan-11-22 03:41 PM
(I have a feeling he leaves TOSU for the NFL in the next few years anyway.. esp if he wins a chip. Dude from New Hampshire isnt staying in Columbus Ohio for life. Just like Chip Kelly wasnt staying in Eugene Oregon for the rest of his.)

Defensive minded, young coach and young future QB. Hired a talented offensive coordinator
2754874, is Frank Reich still living off Nick Foles' hot run 3 or 4 years ago?
Posted by ThaTruth, Mon Jan-10-22 11:39 AM
2754876, He made the mistake of thinking Wentz could be good.
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Mon Jan-10-22 11:48 AM
Colts and Reich did a good job with Phillip Rivers last year.
Carson Wentz has become a career destroying QB if people ride with him.
2754878, Yeah, the colts would have been better off if Rivers came back
Posted by calij81, Mon Jan-10-22 12:09 PM
2754898, they called Rivers when Wentz had covid
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jan-10-22 02:20 PM

2754916, Lmao. The first heir in line for the Rivers throne.
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Mon Jan-10-22 04:20 PM
2754892, he will start on a warm seat in 2022
Posted by will_5198, Mon Jan-10-22 01:19 PM
the slow starts to the season and his refusal to give up playcalling duties (as the offense tanked down the stretch) are going to be heavily judged after this collapse.

GM Chris Ballard as well. he cannot draft a defensive end to save his job, and yet he keeps trying.
2754919, IMO, INDY is a case study for tanking
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-10-22 05:12 PM
They've been middling for a minute now
Obviously, Luck retired and they didn't have an heir apparent in the wings
Had a losing season following
Then rebounded with Rivers
...but just to be aight...
I would have preferred to keep Reich in Philly in hindsight with how Pederson worked out
I think he's a great coach
and IRT Wentz, that was the motivation for him going to Indy
They thought they could recapture his MVP 17' form
Wentz has mental issues
He's got all of the physical tools...but just can't be who he was 5 years ago
They would have been better off tanking given where they are today and the QB class of last year
Now they're stuck with Wentz, I don't see how that's on Reich...?
2754920, RE: IMO, INDY is a case study for tanking

so with a white coach its the player's fault? gotcha
2754932, Wentz choked...you disagree?
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-10-22 06:49 PM
Reich went 11-5 with noodle arm Rivers
Had the reclamation project Wentz a W away from the playoffs
Everything isn't a social justice moment
Wentz choked.
2754924, Reich clearly put his coaching career on the line for Wentz
Posted by will_5198, Mon Jan-10-22 05:39 PM
no way Indy makes that trade without Reich promising that he can fix Wentz. Reich is a good coach and the Luck retirement was unlucky, but ultimately he has never won the division and in 2 of his 4 seasons, he hasn't prepared the team to start the season (1-5 in 2018 and 1-4 in 2021).

also, Wentz's 2017 season was the anomaly. to be in your sixth year in the league and still making hero ball, game-losing decisions every-fucking-week is who is he is.

he's not broken and he doesn't have a mental block. he just wasn't that good to begin with.
2754934, He did course correct from last year
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-10-22 07:04 PM
He actually did improve from dog$hit, to middle of the pack
Didn't happen in one season, but he did improve
<shrug>
Maybe mental issue wasn't the right term, more of a block
He looks terrified of getting hit
When he was on 17 and 18 he was way more confident
He's got the natural arm talent
Reich corrected the TO machine he was last year
IDK about writing him off just yet
Didn't work this year
GM needs to decide if they try again or move on...and that was the point of my post
Rivers wasn't a long-term solution
If they weren't committed to Wentz long-term
They should have just tanked in 2020
Rivers wasn't going to win a SB
and now you've got a long shot bet that didn't pan out in year one
As fun as it is to party on Wentz...they were real close to their goal this year

2754917, Firing Ryan Pace was stupid.
Posted by allStah, Mon Jan-10-22 04:46 PM
Drafted :

Cohen
Jaylen Johnson
Roquan Smith ( possibly defensive player of the year)
Cmet
Fields
Montgomery
Mooney
Herbert..

He also brought in Mack, Robinson, and Graham.

Just like when they fired John Fox prior to firing Nagy, we are going to
be right back here in 4 years.

Pace wasn’t the problem....Chicago Bears culture is the problem....zero patience and
and the radio personalities are toxic as shit.

2754929, what a squad. only a half dozen All-Pros away from going to the playoffs

2754938, Did he draft Trubisky?
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-10-22 07:19 PM
2755035, Pace needed to go too.....
Posted by blueeclipse, Tue Jan-11-22 12:58 PM
You should get fired for passing on Mahomes and Watson for Trubisky. Not only that he TRADED UP FOR TRUBISKY.

It's not like any of his other drafts were all that great either.
2755040, Trubisky was the number 1 QB prospect on the board
Posted by allStah, Tue Jan-11-22 02:00 PM
BY ALL SCOUTS. He was ahead of Mahomes and Watson. Trubisky was
going top 5/10 regardless of who drafted him.

So stop it.

Pace drafted the number 1 QB on the board is what a gm is supposed to do.
No one knew anything about mahomes or perceived him to be good. It’s the
same thing with Herbert.

Pace is not at fault if a top prospect doesn’t pan out.

And he made some outstanding draft picks. Smith is a major stud, and so are
Montgomery and Mooney..

Bears’ Qb issues did’t/don’t start with Pace. That has been an on going issue throughout
the history of the bears.
2755042, Everyone worth a damn at the time knew it was doomed and a bad pick.....
Posted by blueeclipse, Tue Jan-11-22 02:58 PM
PFF and Walter Football and analytics garbage outlets like that had Trubisky rated one but Sean Payton, Andy Reid, and a BUNCH of NFL scouts were looking hard at Mahomes and thought he had the most raw talent. They knew he had elite arm talent and could cook in their system. Watson was the real dividing player. Some had Kizer ahead of him.

You're talking about Trubisky like he was an Andrew Luck prospect. GTFOH.
2755045, Revisionism.
Posted by allStah, Tue Jan-11-22 03:33 PM
Trubisky was hands down the number one prospect on all boards, and was
going to be taken number 3 by the Jets.

https://www.pff.com/news/ranking-the-top-10-qb-draft-prospects

Here is the official prospect list from that year. Trubisky is number 1, some
even had Kizer over mahomes and Watson.

So Pace moved up and took the number one guy, who people wanted at the time.
In fact, the following season the bears went 12-4, and Trubisky was giving high
ratings. The wheels feel off after that season.

So again your perception is bullshit, and pace did a good job drafting, because
the bears have a roster of talented players.
2755049, Once you bring in the Jets as your defense.....
Posted by blueeclipse, Tue Jan-11-22 03:51 PM
This is a wrap. The Jets. That makes your argument look even worse. Pace had to trade ahead of the other franchise in the league that sucks at evaluating and drafting QB's because they were going to take Trubisky?

I'm done.
2755053, Teams above the jets did not need a QB, and everyone after
Posted by allStah, Tue Jan-11-22 04:02 PM
the jets who needed a QB had Trubisky high on their list, which is why
Pace moved up. We can sit here and say how terrible Trubisky is all we want to,
which is true. However, in 2017, Trubisky was the number 1 QB prospect on all NFL
scouts’ list, and after the 12-4 season, he was highly rated as a great choice by the bears.

So yeah it’s easy to say that Trubisky is trash after the fact.....and to blame
Ryan Pace for all of it. But that’s not how things actually went down.
2755054, lmao.. gotdamn
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jan-11-22 04:02 PM
2755050, nah.. that was the ole big white QB with all the measurables list
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jan-11-22 03:54 PM
Now I know white folks love a big white QB but he was not the best pick at the time

Scouting boards love to prop up guys like Trubisky. you have to be a fucking idiot to buy into that shit. Not you.. I mean these GM’s who love white QB’s for obvious reasons.

and Kizer? Where is he now? That is typical ND hype and its the reasons
teams like Chicago struggled for years drafting a QB. They slobber over measurable’s and damn near frown on actual game tape.

I didn’t trust Mahommes but Watson? Not sure how anyone could watch him vs Bama 2 years straight and not see franchise.

As someone who had to watch more Trubisky than I wanted since I live in NC, I was cracking up when the GM said every time Trubisky got in good things happened. What tapes did he watch? He was big and average at UNC.

2755056, ^^ This is revisionism bullshit.
Posted by allStah, Tue Jan-11-22 04:27 PM
Both Mahomes and Trubisky went to the pro ball in their second season and led
their teams to 12-4 records, and both teams went to the POs

Mithc threw for 3200 yards, 24 TDs, with a 94pct passer rating that season.

But the following season the wheels fell off. . That’s how that shit went down.

So was it truly a bad draft choice or simply bad coaching that lead to Trubisky’s
downfall. I’m not saying that Trubisky is on the same level as Mahomes, but
Mahomes plays for a great system under an elite QB coach. Mitch played under Nagy.

Ryan Pace should not be blamed for that.

2755057, You keep bringing up one year like its his whole career
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jan-11-22 04:59 PM
Mark Sanchez also had a good season once or twice.

Point is.. people were shocked when Trubisky was picked and he wasn’t worthy of that pick.

2755063, Who was shocked?
Posted by allStah, Tue Jan-11-22 05:10 PM
Nobody in Chicago was terribly shocked, and the mock drafts were already out there
with Trubisky being the first QB taking off the board. It was just a matter of who
was going to take him.

Stop making stuff up. Hell, it wasn’t even a big QB draft class that year.
3 QBs taken in the first round. 1 taken in the 2nd, and 1 taken in the third.

And not only that, the Chiefs were interested in taking him as well.
People forget that they were trying to move up to number 5 in the draft by
trying to trade with the Titans. They took Mahomes at number 10. They even passed
on Watson.

2755072, You just signed Glennon for 3/45
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jan-11-22 05:59 PM
here is the draft coverage. No one is discussing this pick like it was likely or
made sense.

Dude started 13 games.. went 8-5 and you gave up a ton for him.

It was shocking… and idiotic.

and did KC and Texans jump up to 3 and 4 to get QB’s?

Nah… they were smart and waited. You guys got gamed by the Jets and Browns 2 teams that would’ve SAVED you from making a terrible selection and giving up 4 picks
2755103, ^^^^LIES
Posted by allStah, Wed Jan-12-22 01:32 AM
Both the Chiefs and Texans gave up assets to move up in the draft.

They didn’t wait.

Dude, please stop.
2755118, Those teams were drafting in the 20's when they traded up.....
Posted by blueeclipse, Wed Jan-12-22 11:04 AM
So they did wait. His point is they didn't panic and trade into the top 5.

For whatever reason the Bears traded up ONE pick because the 49ers spooked them and they thought the Jets might trade ahead of them.

Let that team make that dumbass trade. Don't be that team. They turned out to be that team.

The Jets turned around and did it for Darnold the very next year. LOL.
2755120, They moved up to 10 and 12
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Jan-12-22 11:09 AM

2755059, Nagy runs the same system as Andy!!!
Posted by blueeclipse, Tue Jan-11-22 05:02 PM
Lmao....wtf man. What is it going to take for you to admit trading up for Trubisky was a shitty move.

I've never seen someone try this hard to defend an average ass GM.

Pace drafted Kevin White #7 in his first draft. That's a fire-able offense on it's own.

2755066, You putting Nagy on the same level as Andy Reid?
Posted by allStah, Tue Jan-11-22 05:31 PM
Now who is being illogical here? Matt Nagy is not Andy Reid, and doesn’t
know how to run a system, which is why he had to give up play calling duties.
I think he is better as just being a coach, not a developer of QBs

You can’t be serious.

What I’m telling you is that Mitch Trubisky was going to be the first QB taken
regardless Of the Bears taking him. More teams were interested in him over Mahomes
and Watson, and like I stated above even the Chiefs passed on Watson.

Several teams were interested in trading up to get Trubisky, even the Chiefs,
which is why Pace moved up to number 2 to get him.

This is what you fail to comprehend.
2755069, lmao at claiming a few bad teams were lining up to draft Trubisky
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jan-11-22 05:43 PM
don’t believe the hype. Chicago got suckered into drafting a bum.

2755070, I believe the Jets would have done that shit.....
Posted by blueeclipse, Tue Jan-11-22 05:45 PM
But Andy Reid?!?!? Naw man. You're not about to convince me or anyone else that Andy was trading up for Trubisky with Mahomes and Watson out there.

If Mahomes would have went to the Bears and Trubisky had fell instead then who knows.....but I think Andy wanted Mahomes all along.

John Dorsey was pretty adamant about their scouting on Mahomes before and after that draft.
2755074, RE: I believe the Jets would have done that shit.....
Posted by allStah, Tue Jan-11-22 06:18 PM
Both players were on their board. That is a fact. Watson was never
an interest for them. So had the Bears drafted Mahomes, the Chiefs
would have selected Trubisky or some other team before them.

Everybody wants to bullshit with how coveted Trubisky was that year.

Look, we know Trubisky isn’t good now. But during that draft year, and up to his
second season, that wasn’t the case. He was highly rated.

Everyone can point fingers AFTER THE FACT.

2755089, Jets probably would’ve because they suck at drafting QB’s too

check out the bleacher report and all the skeptics right after the pick

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2698963-bears-shock-the-world-draft-mitchell-trubisky-after-trading-up-to-no-2

Why couldn’t he beat out Williams at UNC?

Only started 13 games?

and yes, there is also some serious for Trubisky but we hear that shit every draft. Better athlete than Brett Favre.. whatever that means.

2755096, Those comps are all good players....
Posted by blueeclipse, Tue Jan-11-22 08:28 PM
But not players you draft as the second pick in the draft. The Alex Smith pick proves that even more.

I look at Trubisky in the same way I look at Ryan Tannehill. You can win with him. But that guys isn't taking over a game. He's not a top 10 QB. Same with Derek Carr.

The fact that this dude is still defending this pick is insane. The idea that anyone else could get one over on Pace and actually think Mahomes was better is like unheard of to him. (But that's basically what happened).

Trubisky wasn't so much better than Mahomes and Watson that it required moving up to 2. I could see if he was THAT MUCH BETTER even in the scouting but he was a one year starter on top of that.
2755102, ^^^This is all cow shit and after the fact.
Posted by allStah, Wed Jan-12-22 01:20 AM
No one knew shit from shit on how those QBs would turn out. It was such
a weak QB draft, that ESPN wrote an article on how all three teams were taking
a huge risk on moving up to take Tru, Mahomes and Watson. All three teams gave up
a lot of assets to move up.

Im not trying to justify a damn thing. I’m telling the truth on what went on with that
QB draft class, and Trubisky was the top draft prospect of that class. You can
armchair QB all you want to.

Also, when both Trubisky and Mahomes went to the pro bowl, both of the bears
and Chiefs were predicted to go to the super bowl the following year. Those
are facts.

When the Bears went 12-4, everyone was saying positive things about Trubisky and
bears. That’s a fact.

So miss me with your revisionism bullcrap, and meaningless criticism AFTER THE FACT.

Ryan Pace moved up to take a number 1 QB prospect. That QB went to the pro bowl,
and the Bears made 2 PO appearances with him, and he has a winning record
as a QB. Unfortunately, he didn’t continue to evolve as a QB, so it didn’t work out.

THE END.

Half the teams in the NFL can’t say that about their QB.

2755111, Personally, it was racism when it came to Watson’s assessment
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Jan-12-22 09:21 AM
how does anyone watch this dude shit all over Bama to the tune of 800+ yards, 7 TD’s and 1 INT in 2 national title games and have questions about him as a pro?

Yet a guy with 13 starts has all the intangibles? FOH.

and bruh, every 2 years the Browns are the favorites to make the SB in offseason predictions. No one gives a shit about SB predictions fam.

and I provided a link where multiple people predicted Trubisky was a bust. It wasn’t revisionist. Some were high on him and some weren’t and yall fools fell for the hype.

2755110, 49ers finessed the hell out of the Chicago GM
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Jan-12-22 09:16 AM
what really makes it crazy is Chicago had 4 QB’s on their roster already.

and while I still would clown them if they stood firm and picked Trubisky over Watson and Mahommes…

giving up 4 picks to move up to get him was insane.

You make that move for Trevor Lawrence or Andrew Luck. You don’t make that move for a kid that had 13 starts, went 8-5 and broke no passing records. They got hype off the hype

His drafts have largely been duds, especially after the 1st round. His FA pickups have been ineffective as they are often injured and don’t contribute.

He lucked into Herbert due to the dolphins taking Tua. Trading back into the first round in 2020 to draft LB Kenneth Murray was questionable on draft day and it looks terrible now.

Saying he doesn't know how to develop Qbs is weird considering Tua was injured 50% of the time and is obviously not a franchise Quarterback. And he still pulled off two back to back winning seasons for a garbage franchise. Bears would be lucky to get Brian Flores. He can hire an OC for the develop a QB aspect. Bears are a defense first franchise.

The Browns have been largely dysfunctional during Haslam's entire run so far as owner. Being around a well run organization doesn't necessarily mean you know what to do on your own.

So much about ownership and front office culture is based on instincts but also on real experience and vision. You have to be able to recognize the right traits in people to surround yourself with and it has to trickle down. The next person has to be able to do the same and so and so forth.

Leslie Frazier may get the Bears job

Harbaugh may go to the Raiders

I could see Leftwich to the Jags but he needs a strong GM, maybe they give Louis Riddick another look, he was supposedly in the running for the last year

Flores may go to the Vikes, I think Nagy is done as a HC in the NFL

Miami might do Josh McDaniels

The Giants came out of left field with Joe Judge, they will probably try to go the established route with somebody like Doug Pederson

Broncos could do Bienemy or some young unknown offensive guru

top 5 are fine, don't think I'd argue the others except New Orleans and Buffalo, maybe Seattle. I'm pretty sure Bisaccia is out, even though i think he deserves another shot. Carr possibly out too.

Mayock's whole deal is he was brought on has this draft genius but his choices have been shakey. Crosby, Jacobs, and Renfrow were all W's.
Cle Ferrel (his very first pick as GM) is a disappointment. Arnette didn't work out.. even before his off field stuff, Trayvon Mullen never came around and he's always hurt. Then there's Ruggs which you can't put on Mayock. he was coming into his own before the tragedy.

Looking at 2021 picks, some are at least respectable but no one stands out. Our first rounder Leatherwood is having a horrible rookie season. his strength seems to be committing penalties at the worst possible times

then of course the whole AB disaster

But i wanted to see Mayock operate without Gruden, since he had such a heavy say overall, it's hard to know what was on who

plus the other fucked up thing is if the Gruden stuff didn't happen and we *didn't* make the playoffs, Gruden would still be HC

the official talking point is the power dynamic was 51/49 gruden. while it surely wasn't that... i'm pretty sure Mayock had a decent amount autonomy over draft decisions with Gruden needing to sign off

Gruden prolly would have just drafted a bunch of quarterbacks or traded for Drew Lock

Arians nearly ruined his reputation as "the cool laid back coach with Kangol hats" this year. He looked old and behaved like he wasnt himself. Makes perfect sense to retire with his ring and let Leftwich take over a team that loves him. Brady would stick around one more year for the transition.

Career backup despite not doing anything. White QB employment plan.

Retired after doing nothing and immediately his coaching career is immediately fast tracked and given a real coaching job in the NFL.

Has basically failed up and benefitted from those ahead of him being fired but he is always kept on staff.

He is like the white triple crown winner.

4-11 the year after that while almost getting Burrow killed with an almost career threatening injury due to his play calling.

Matt Lefleur inherited Aaaron Rodgers
And Staley inherited Justin Herbert

Their success doesn't change the fact that black coaches that have put in more time aren't even getting the opportunity to be successful. Or are given a VERY short leash. Anthony Lynn didn't even get a second year with Justin Herbert. Taylor was allowed to have two losing seasons without being fired.

Black coaches are the "tank for this player" so we can then fire you and install a new coach with a franchise QB. Flores is exposing all of that.

Steve Wilks got one year with Josh Rosen and was fired. Kliff gets the job after having losing seasons in college and is gifted Kyler Murray and Hopkins.

David Culley helps right the ship during a horrendous season for the Texans, while finding a solid young QB in Davis Mills. Now whatever new coach they hire will get the credit.

Harbaugh would have been fine. He's had success at the NFL level so he had that going for him. Still would have preferred Bieniemy (or Leftwich or Ryans or Morris) over him but I think the Vikings would have done better initially with Harbaugh at the helm than O'Connell. Who knows? Maybe O'Connell is the next boy genius head coach and the Vikings will have long term success. One can only hope.

>I just wanted to point out an instance of a college coach,

Everybody knows the jobs Harbaugh really wanted were the Raiders or the Bears, when they passed on him the Minnesota interview was a consolation prize just to save face.

After beating the Suckeyes he’ll have more job security in Ann Arbor than in Minnesota and that job was reportedly offering less money.

I still don’t see the similarity of an established successful 15-20yr pro coach entertaining stepping down to take a college at a school, in an area, he has no ties too. I could see the question if Tomlin was a USC alum or from the LA area but it would still be a silly move to make.

Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Feb-03-22 09:27 AM
and yes, dude is still holding on when the situations are night and day.

A guy who had his first head coaching job in college and now coaches at the same school he where he played QB removes himself from a coaching search when he finds out it wasn’t a done deal.. and the pay was likely less than UM.

yeah, great comparison

the three of you are having, from the other post…but I do enjoy the discussion of coaching hires, in general. That said, it’s all over the place that the Vikings did not offer him the job. He went in there believing it was his, partly because he has ties to the new Minnesota GM…and that simply wasn’t the case. They just wanted to interview dude, like they did Patrick Graham, the day before. He then told Michigan that he was coming back and this wouldn’t happen again…he would be there for as long as Michigan wanted him. Lol…it reminds me of an episode of The Office when Michael had an interview at corporate, in New York. He thought because he had the most seniority of any of the branch managers, the job was his and the interview was a formality. He sold his condo and picked a replacement. Turns out, he was one of like 7 interviews. He didn’t get the job and had to go back to Scranton the same day.

>Rooney Rule really worked wonders

That’s a publicity stunt rule and they’re getting caught again not acting in good faith to do what the rule intended. They need a back room, unlisted rule. Like roll up on the owners with ‘look here, assholes. We aren’t having this convo anymore. In 3 years, we need to have at least 8 black ass head coaches and no less than 16 black coordinators’. As soon as someone says ‘but but but..qualifications’, reply with Urban Meyer and all of the McVay related mfers who have gotten gigs without having to even be coordinators first. Or people in Andy’s coaching tree.

Aka they can’t keep letting random dudes skip the line straight to head coaching gigs while still having almost no black head coaches. And even after that, we will have to deal with black coaches eating too much of the blame when their teams don’t win so it won’t be over. Anthony Lynn for instance. He’s gone from the Chargers and what do you know…they’re still jerks who lose close games in silly ways and occasionally get their asses completely kicked in weird situations. Or Todd Bowles with the Jets too. Like those mfers have won anything since Rex was there. They still can’t get qb right, offensive lines have been shaky, and their GMS in general haven’t been exactly amazing.
2757642, its racism and just terrible ownership by some of these franchises
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Feb-04-22 09:40 AM
people always say these guys want to win but most forget that all these teams are winning financially.

and we now see some actually didn’t want to win.

but the amount if young white dudes who skip the line is glaring. Just shows that most
of these owners are living up to their name.

People wonder why the slave comparison is always made in football. Its because most owners still operate like only a white man is capable of leading Black athletes.

Yep.

It’s also jealousy. To them, it’s ‘bad enough’ that so many of these dudes ‘make so much money’ to play the game now. Having them backdoor that with rich coaching contracts too? Some of these folks can’t take it. So yeah, cut your nose to spite your face type shit going on.

If we’re going in on it, some of these mfers can barely stand there being ‘so many black qbs’.

Meanwhile, if you’re within 20 feet of some of these coaches, you’re getting coordinator and head coach gigs PDQ. Even a cat like Kellen Moore is already knocking on the door of a head gig. It’s wild. But Dak sux, right? Meanwhile, some other qbs have some rancid performances on their records with minimal sustained scrutiny.

I recently saw a graphic with all of the sb winners on it. There 12 of 32 teams right now who have not won ONE SB ever. There’s several more teams that haven’t won in at least 20 years. It’s a wild graphic that tells a lot of stories. Ie: Green Bay is considered a well-run franchise. 1 Super bowl win/appearance in the last 20 years!? I know we have a post here about it but still..really!?

2757644, yeah a backroom mandate is the only way it'll work
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Feb-04-22 09:58 AM
you can try try and try but you cant force the owners to hire anyone. they have to want to do it.

the NBA looked at the same problem and you can tell there's a concerted effort to hire black coaches now.

neither league *has* to do anything to improve this issue, but only one actually *wants* to.

but hey it's like Future said, you do what you want when you poppin. and the NFL is poppin harder than ever.
2757647, players have way more power in the NBA
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Feb-04-22 10:34 AM
You get 2 or 3 stars on an NBA team who say they coach is ass juice and the owner is going to make a move.

DeShaun and JJ Watt tried to flex in Houston and JJ was let go and Watson is facing a civil suit and hasn’t played a down since.

The last HC also shipped Hopkins out for a bag of dicks and lost his damn job instead of catering to the best WR in the NFL.

NFL ain’t changing unless Black players really use that voice and most aren’t going to risk their career for inclusion in upper management.

Posted by will_5198, Sun Feb-06-22 07:06 PM
hilarious lateral move (at best). not Eberflus fault that Ballard assembled one of the worst pass-rush units in the NFL, and Bradley is not going to do anything schematically to change their impact (he doesn't blitz either).

Colts' successes or failures will be all on Reich and Ballard next season:

- Reich vouched for Wentz and let the players decide their own minicamp schedule (they voted to cut corners in the offseason and Indy started 1-4, imagine that).

- Ballard has spent four years drafting/acquiring a shit pass rush that gives up late leads. imagine you have 4 second-round picks you can only use on defensive linemen, and you end up with this group: Ben Banogu, Kemoko Turay, Tyquan Lewis and Dayo Odeyingbo.

- Ballard is also responsible for having *one* receiver make any impact in the last six years. Wentz is an albatross over the offense, but JFC this group is bottom of the league.

I’m guessing his name didn’t come up a lot nationally cuz the Texans are a joke with not a lot of name brand stars or even high end fantasy football people.

But yeah, being in Houston…I knew damn well Lovie was the DC. And they were bending and trying not to break all over the place.

We know damn well why he’s getting an interview all of a sudden. And, at least for now, it’s a bad job. But it would check that box. So we’d have Lovie, Tomlin, and the dude coaching Miami now is ‘multiracial’ so he’s gonna get counted fo sho too.

Eric B will still be in KC, Leftwich will wait another year and I guess hope BA takes it to the house so he can have the Tampa job? The NFC South is falling off so I could understand that move.

Right. And that's another piece of the puzzle to me. If the idea is that GOOD Black candidates need to get a fair shake, I want to get crazy and also expect that GOOD Black candidates aren't regularly having to take bad jobs just to get a job and help get the NFL out of hot water. And everyone here should know: showing up on Sundays with a bullshit QB is a great way to end up with a 'don't hire this dude no mo'-level bad record after 2-3 years.

It is one thing if you and the GM swing and miss on a QB (draft, free agency, whatever). It is another thing altogether to get handed a screwed up set of players with a shaky QB room and then you're asked to make some chicken salad..especially when you doing badly will get labeled by many of the excel meatheads as 'See? This is why you can't hire Black coaches! They don't win!'.

So hey..if Eric B doesn't see a path to a good QB, good offensive weapons AND a decent staff, I don't blame if he says 'I'm gonna stay over here with Andy and Pat and roll up hella stats'.

Leftwich basically had the same choice with a potentially great QB and an otherwise crap team and a crap GM in Jacksonville.

These guys have to weigh their options, take a chance with a HC job with a crap team that's doomed for failure and chill as an assistant but risk getting passed over and forgotten while these young white guys eat up all the jobs.

You look at a guy like Jim Caldwell who got a raw deal in Indy and a rawer deal in Detroit and at 67 will probably never get another shot. Then there are guys like Sherman Lewis and Jimmy Raye who were hot names as assistants for years but never got a HC shot.

Pep Hamilton was once a hot name that nobody talks about now.

granted the rosters at the time weren't very talented, but he really seemed to do nothing but look confident on the sidelines.

He's a solid DC

Wasnt about to make a separate post but we can pretend this is Kliff Kingsbury/coach related. This cant be some sort of accident. He unfollowed the Cardinals and deleted any Cardinal related content from his page. Weird times man.

Arizona has to decide on his fifth-year (2023) option this offseason; he probably wants that year picked up or an extension hammered out.

2757918, who are the young black offensive gurus? I know we have former players...
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Feb-08-22 12:45 PM
Bienemy and Leftwitch and at 52 and 42 they are not necessarily "young" compared to some of these other coaches getting jobs.

It seems like most of the other top black candidates are on the defensive side.

Who are the young black non-players being groomed on the offensive side of the ball?
2757958, Feels like an okey doke
Posted by blueeclipse, Tue Feb-08-22 07:36 PM
The path for black coaches for years has been on the defensive side of the ball just to get a job as a position coach or POSSIBLY as a coordinator.

When black head coaching hires became reality al the coaches had been brought up on that side of the ball.

Then the league swung to offensive heavy rules and now we have all these Shanahan and McVay coaches getting all the jobs. No black offensive coaches are being brought up in these coaching trees (unless you want to count McDaniel who just got the Dolphins job).

There are black offensive coaches out there though. But owners are reluctant to hand over the keys to coaching their quarterbacks to a black coach.

Jim Caldwell and Hue Jackson are the only coaches in recent memory who half ass got a chance and they both were done dirty.
2757959, well you have to see how people end up in those jobs
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue Feb-08-22 07:44 PM
usually start as QC people
backup QBs
journeymen QBs
maybe they played at some rando liberal arts school (beli tree for example)
or they're coaches sons/other family

we just started getting a consistent amount of journeymen and backup black QBs

to benefit from nepotism were just now getting to the point where your Dungys/Lovies kids would be old enough to get into coaching. 20s/early 30s.

i heard Lovie today talking about black people dont really get the look for those QC jobs that get you started.

I'm sure there are some folks we dont know, but Leftwich felt very much like a beginning to me when he got the QB coach gig at Arizona a couple years ago.
2757964, Daboll, Sirriani, Stefanski & Arthur Smith weren't QBs, Hackett was...
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Feb-08-22 09:16 PM
nepotism...

Going back guys like Reid, McCarthy, and Harbaugh came up on the offensive side of the ball and were not QB's, Rhule wasn't a QB

there are quite a few black backup and journeymen QB's that have tried coaching you still need somebody to put you on

I'm old enough to remember when he diced up Saban back at Utah

and early 40s is relatively young for a NFL HC (unfortunately minorities don't get that McVay fast-track, ever)

Marcus Brady, Colts OC (42) -- former CFL quarterback

Ronald Curry, Saints QB Coach (42) -- yep, UNC/Raiders Ron Curry

Pep Hamilton, Texans OC (47) -- closer to 50 but should get another shot, did good work with Mills and Herbert the last two years

Listen, I'm not here to discuss the levels of blackness but something doesn't smell right with this Mike McDaniel thing.

First he gives the "I don't see color" quote then the whole Pitbull, Will Smith thing. On top of that, the video of the call between Tua and him.

This is either some incognegro shit or his brother is Kit Ramsey.

2758081, It’s like those morons who complain “whites are now the minority!”
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Thu Feb-10-22 07:08 AM
In California and other places. When in reality they aren’t the minority. They’re just not the majority when comparing whites vs everyone else. It’s like they’re too arrogant to even recognize their own racism. They assume that all non-white people are some monolithic group, so when the total of Asians, Black, Hispanic, etc collectively may outnumber whites, they start to complain bc they’re now the “minority.” They act as if there’s some coalition of all non-white people. But then again, that’s par for course for white supremacists.
2758086, nothing worse than a white man acting like a victim of racism

Posted by The Real, Thu Feb-10-22 09:52 AM
We had to do our yearly diversity training and all of a sudden the definition switched up from cultural diversity to male/female diversity. Man, every single black person was giving the training the side-eye because we knew something was up.

Three weeks later they outsourced the department that had the most black folks working in it. Just like that company became super white and the ones that were left knew we better update the resume. Corporate America man.

that press conference seems just about right.

I don't watch football, but hopefully that dude knows his X's and O's on a high level because he doesn't look like someone that will command a locker room and be a leader of men. I'm going to assume he'll hire much older coordinators to serve as disciplinary figures.

Then again, perhaps race is just a sensitive subject for the man and that makes him uneasy, for whatever reasons.

You can't tell me you have a job in the NFL and you haven't experienced racism. He may have the privilege of not being the subject of it, but that doesn't mean he hasn't seen it expressed towards others by his colleagues/peers.

This fool just allowed himself to be a billboard for the Shield. Its officially fuck Miami as an org, a team, and a motherfuckin' crew.

Flores' lawsuit is some thrown together mess of grievances but there is obvious bias and racism there. This example is blatantly obvious and the media plays right into it as well. It's not just the front offices. I'd be suing ESPN too.
