In either case - it's a stupid thing to say. If it's the mistake some think it is - then it's proof he's a) an idiot for not researching and b) wrong as hell. If it's joking at the expense of KPJ's actual father then that's fireable and beyond fucked up.
That doesn't seem to be 'defense' to me.
