2752528, Best QB in 2021 draft in 4 years
Posted by COOLEHMAGAZINE, Wed Dec-31-69 07:00 PM
I know what it looks like now…but I just have a really, really hard time believing it's gonna be Mac Jones.

Maybe mostly because I prayed so hard for the Bears NOT to draft him.

2752529, I think it’s totally plausible Mac is the best

The rest of these guys are in abysmal situations, especially Lawrence and Wilson. Why would we automatically assume Trevor Lawrence, he of the historically inept Jaguar team from Jacksonville, is going to for sure thrive EVER? So much has to go right for him to thrive. They’re that bad.

Meanwhile, there’s a real chance Mac Jones plays in an AFC Championship game THIS YEAR. That type of experience can throw his development into hyper speed. If he’s this good now what’s he going to look like in three years? Given the ride he’s going to go on this postseason and the team He plays for, I think it’s fair to assume he’s even better - and the best of this lot.
2752532, Jets are a bad organization, but Wilson is playing spectacularly bad

he should not get a Darnold pass for being this awful
2752538, they brought in Flacco to make sure White doesn’t outshine him

2752557, he had a pretty good first half yesterday!
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Mon Dec-06-21 09:15 PM

Jacksonville will have draft picks and don''t have a lot of ugly contracts.

Let's remember where the Bills were for the last quarter-century
2752537, Can anyone convince me Zach Wilson wasn’t drafted by an alt right GM?
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Dec-06-21 04:27 PM
seriously.. how did this dude get drafted second?

what was it based on?

couldn’t have been film. Couldn’t have been metrics.

Who is he related to in the org?

How the hell do you draft a mormon to lead your team in New York City of all places?

Crazy strong arm, athletic, able to make off-platform throws, Able to make jaw-dropping throws on occasion.

I mean, that's all it really takes to be in the first round conversation right now.

Picking Wilson early made about as much sense as picking anyone besides Lawrence. What in the world does San Francisco see in Trey Lance except potential?

It's entirely possible that most of the QBs taken early in the first round are actually terrible.

From team offices to fans, everyone feels like finding a franchise QB is priority 1, 2, and 3, if you don't have one.

The result is everyone is gambling and being encouraged to do so.

2752544, lmao… I’m sure that is exactly what the GM said when he drafted him
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Dec-06-21 04:54 PM

occasional jaw dropping throw

wtf

Do you have anything to say about the substance of the post?

Quarterbacks are being drafted very high on nothing more than potential. Zach Wilson showed roughly as much potential as any of these other guys besides Lawrence.
2752583, obviously I think that assessment is trash
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Dec-07-21 12:46 PM
and it could be said about any QB

That kid is not accurate and has horrible ball placement.

Just as reactionary and uninformed as I expected

carry on
2752629, lmao at reactionary..

I watched at least 5 BYU games in 2020.

He was impressive against Navy and Houston

but they struggled to find quality opponents and he was garbage against Coastal Carolina.

My point was not that he was some great player and can't miss talent.

It's that, at this moment in the NFL, teams are just drafting QBs off of traits and the vague idea of "potential"

This sort of process means more and more busts are going to be taken higher and higher.

It's stupid IMO, but it's not confined to Wilson. With the exception of Lawrence, no one should be surprised if all of them are busts. Like, what about Trey Lance makes him a better pick than Wilson? Mac Jones looked like his ceiling was Kyle Orton. Justin Fields would have been a second or third rounder not that long ago.

Then again, I thought Josh Allen was just an athlete with a big arm.
2752694, On that I agree... I thought Josh Allen was all arm
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Dec-09-21 09:10 AM
but I still think its wild Wilson went so high given his film vs Mac Jones or Fields.

He seems like the worst of the bunch to me but its the Jets so it shouldn’t surprise me.
2752546, Mac Jones doesn't NEED to be the best.
Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Dec-06-21 05:19 PM
He plays in the Belicheat system with an optimal defense. The same was true of his most notable progenitor.

NE's offensive play design is a little underrated. I feel more than even Boody, Jones was groomed via Alabama to do what he's doing right now.

2752563, THREE PASSES to beat Buffalo.
Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Dec-06-21 11:13 PM
I don't even care which team it was. An NFL team beaten by someone with 3 pass attempts.

System QB.
2752571, RIGHT?! I thought that stat was a misprint

I had a theory during the game last night, surprised nobody else has said this today actually. I wonder if Belichick saw the stuff about Mac's trademark MJ10 and Mac10 and decided then dude you are on MNF for the world to see and we aren't letting you pass the ball. lol Even his first pass attempt appeared to be an audible that got a first down and looked like Josh McDaniel was a little mad at it. It might have all been part of the bad weather plan that worked either way but Bill is all about nobody is above the Team and could have been showing him he needs them way more than they need him.
2752589, it was the ultimate fuck yo home field advantage game plan.
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Dec-07-21 03:39 PM
so you have a QB with a big arm? Guess what? We don’t.

That was some pee wee football shit.

2752685, they really hoed buffalo w/ that
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Dec-08-21 06:40 PM
that game is going to damage them psychologically when it comes to the playoffs
2752696, playoffs? unless they beat the bucs this weekend there wont be any playoffs
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Dec-09-21 09:13 AM
2752548, except for Jones and Trey Lance (who gets an asterisk)
Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Dec-06-21 05:23 PM
the other QBs are basically in the worst situations you can start in. And out of all of them, Lawrence has become the most invincible.

Zach Wilson is almost there, but his bad play makes him stand out.

Fields can be salvaged if Chicago goes in a different direction in the offseason (Nagy sucks).

Niners mercifully gave Lance the hook. Though they went to the Super Bowl with him, I just don't know about Shanahan. Hence asterisk.
2752586, Trevor is more talented but it is going to be Mac Jones.
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Tue Dec-07-21 01:07 PM
He is being "trained" by the Greatest Coach of All Time and the most successful football organization of this century. A perfect situation for any rookie.

The Jaguars are a fucking depressing mess and Urban Meyer was a terrible choice to bring in. The city despises its own team for being so awful. Maybe if Lawrence leaves eventually or they bring in an actual NFL coach.

Mac Jones has such a head start on success i dont see it being close. The question really should be: will the Jaguars ruin Trevor Lawrence forever.
2752682, As long as the owner lets his kid run the team they're fucked

2752697, Real life episode of Succession.

2752594, Fields got 2 stealth votes
Posted by COOLEHMAGAZINE, Tue Dec-07-21 05:49 PM
I'll pray on it
2752686, I like Fields if they put some talent around him and Nagy gets fired
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Dec-08-21 06:42 PM
2752683, Mac10 and I dont think it's going to be close really
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Dec-08-21 06:37 PM
i know he looks goofy and aw shucks
and Bill has him on a leash
but that boy can play and folks will be eating a lot of crow as the years go on. i like his combo of arm strength, accuracy, demeanor and work ethic.
(edit: one thing i will say is I think he wouldve succeeded anywhere. But they fucked up letting him get to Bill. they really fucked up.)

Lance I've never seen. I have no idea about him

Fields I dont think will withstand the punishment, or the churn of the poor organization he's in. They're going to break that kid. I like his ability though

Zach wont withstand the punishment and I dont think he is good

Trevor I just dont like his arm. I didn't like it in college either. But for that level it was more than good enough. I just dont think he's precise (control/velocity/accuracy) enough for NFL windows. I know I've said that in other posts though. Maybe if he gets into the right offense I can see it
