2750514, This is the perfect season for a 12 team playoff in CFB
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Nov-10-21 10:35 AM
Nope.. I won’t let it go even tho the SEC bammed it up with that bullshit realignment nonsense.

After Georgia there are no teams separating themselves from the pack.

and lets be real, the rivalries are trash now so let that shit go.. lol.

and the committee is still making it up as they go and dammit, the SEC is getting way too much credit to these 3 loss teams. Pretty sure if Florida wins next week they will sneak back into the top 25, lol.
2750515, Lol this guy

Prob could’ve just bumped up the old thread and reread the responses
2750520, I’m too lazy to use the search function

acting like you own college football post on OKS. lol

good day to you

2750615, oh is this still u not being upset about this & not taking it personal?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Thu Nov-11-21 10:47 AM
i dont recall taking ownership of this thread or anything else

always happy to have cfb convo as demonstrated with others below

that doesnt mean i still can't laugh at you for obsessing over this...unless of course it's you who has ownership of all cfb threads and won't allow it. or ya know, maybe possibly it's actually you who needs to lighten up.

in other words, stop projecting.

2750624, still going? lmao
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Nov-11-21 12:10 PM
2750642, hes right tho
Posted by cgonz00cc, Thu Nov-11-21 03:16 PM
this is a garbage repeat post, and your contributions to it have just been "____ fan?" and other similarly shallow whining

despite that a small pocket of deeper conversation emerged, and coincidentally thats the only thread you arent in. how curious...
2750651, UM is better than MSU was definitely deep bruh..
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Nov-11-21 04:25 PM
the reality is most of the people against an expanded playoff are fans of power 5 schools who don’t want to see these smaller programs pull off the upset.

There is no other reason for not wanting an expanded playoff.

More mediocrity? the fuck does that even mean? Yall want Georgia to play itself in the playoffs this year? What is the reason for not wanting to see 12 teams play it out ON THE FIELD to determine a champion?

Right now we have a rep for the playoffs who said “MSU beat Michigan last week, but they lost.. so we think Michigan is better this week?” huh?????

and Bama at #2 to ensure they don’t t make it if they lose.. smh. Nah, its the opposite. Its so obvious the committee wants Bama in even tho they aren’t that good this year and have no significant wins because the SEC is down this year.

2750660, still going? lololol
Posted by 3xKrazy, Thu Nov-11-21 05:29 PM
look man I'm not here to stifle any conversation or discourage anyone from posting. that's the last thing I wanna do.

if I came off that way then I apologize, it wasn't my intent.

if someone wants to go down this rabbit hole again with you then have at it.

are fans of major programs who benefit from the current formula.

Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Nov-10-21 01:16 PM

Bama playing uga for the sec championship AND a de facto playoff elimination game is gonna be wild
2750539, pretty sure UGA still makes playoffs if they lose SEC title game, no?
Posted by dillinjah, Wed Nov-10-21 01:34 PM
>Bama playing uga for the sec championship AND a de facto
>playoff elimination game is gonna be wild

To be clear, I definitely hope I'm wrong

Bama is def out if they lose to UGA
2750541, Right it’s an elimination game for Bama not uga
Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Nov-10-21 01:49 PM
2750676, Bama looking real shaky lately.
Posted by tariqhu, Thu Nov-11-21 10:48 PM
too many mistakes all over the field. they still gotta play @ Auburn, which hasn't turned out well very often lately.

if they lose, Texas a&m might be headed to the Atlanta.

either way, I'm don't see this bama team beating UGA.
2750540, I refuse to believe this
Posted by Ceej, Wed Nov-10-21 01:48 PM
2750542, It will be fun I promise!
Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Nov-10-21 01:50 PM
Mich kinda needs to win this sat though. Which is very possible.
2750545, Not kinda
Posted by Ceej, Wed Nov-10-21 02:23 PM
2750562, i dont think they have to win this sat for The Game to be fun
Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Nov-10-21 05:54 PM
but it would certainly help

osu needs to handle their business too which is no guarantee
2750559, Very possible, but Michigan doesn’t have a signature win on
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Wed Nov-10-21 05:19 PM
their resume so it’s hard to really gauge how good they are. I think the only ranked team they beat is Wisconsin (who PSU also beat). They barely squeaked by Nebraska and Rutgers. With that said, they very much could beat PSU since PSU is very sloppy and inconsistent. I’ll actually be taking my son to his first ever PSU game - and probably my first in well over a decade. One of my former students/players starts on all the special teams for PSU (#37).
2750563, tough to figure out where this psu team is at right now mentally
Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Nov-10-21 05:56 PM
the coaching uncertainty cannot be helping.

i dont think mich is a great team by any stretch but unlike previous seasons they seem to be getting the most out of their talent while psu isn't.

I'm hoping that psu gets up for this game like they do most years and like they did against osu.
2750564, this has made for an enjoyable season thus far
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed Nov-10-21 06:07 PM

>i dont think mich is a great team by any stretch but unlike
>previous seasons they seem to be getting the most out of their
>talent

outside of the DC forgetting the college substitution rule against MSU there has been almost nothing to bitch about. they end up kicking too many FGs, but at least they are converting them

bad teams get nothing, decent teams get very little, and Cade is rolling. playing like this and losing will not be a bummer the way Lloyd Carr's losses to mediocre teams were.

2750670, I've heard an argument that expansion isn't so much about competition...
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Thu Nov-11-21 08:13 PM
I've heard an argument that expansion isn't so much about competition but about maintaining and building awareness for non-blue bloods.

As it is now, if you're not in the Top 6 annually, no one cares about your program. Schools that bubble up are talked about in the context of them missing out on the Playoff rather than the outstanding play of the school.

Like, take UC, for instance. Nearly losing last week is framed as them being unworthy of the Playoff. No one is pointing to their potential as an ascending program. Or the accomplishment of finishing undefeated (if they do).

And if they don't make it, I don't think they will receive the level of attention and praise that they deserve for getting this far as a G5 program. The Playoff will define their season, whether they make it or not. While that would be great if they make it, it would be a shame that their season is looked at in any way other than a complete success.

Even though it has more teams involved in the Playoff than the BCS, I think the current system has made fans more entitled. They all view their team as lacking if they're not a top-four school.

I'm a big Mizzou fan. Unfortunately, we will likely never make it to the four-team Playoff like we only were on the skirts of the BCS the one year in '08. But if Mizzou finished in the top 10 one year and made the Playoff, we'd eat off that season for a decade. Whereas now, the fan base would maybe feel more dismayed because we couldn't crack the top 4.

Maybe expanding to 12 adds to the fuel for fan entitlement, but at least more fan bases get satisfaction at the end of the year.

It could work out well for excellent games too. For example, you could give the top 4 teams byes and then let the remaining eight play in a first round. I imagine some of the games would be wildly competitive. We all like the first couple of rounds of March Madness, even though 75% of the games don't feature likely championship-worthy schools. The CFP could be similar.
2750679, the power 5 schools and fans are afraid of being upset/embarassed
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Nov-11-21 11:35 PM
2750709, That's true as well
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Fri Nov-12-21 04:11 PM
Could you imagine the mad making if UC beat UGA in a 1-4 matchup. Georgia's fans would lose their minds.

I'm not usually a 'choose chaos' kind of guy, but I'd love to see that.
2750710, lol
Posted by Ceej, Fri Nov-12-21 04:45 PM
2750711, All I want is for these undefeated teams to get a shot at the big dogs
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Nov-12-21 04:49 PM
instead of throwing these 1 loss bums like Oklahoma and ND to the playoffs to get blown out by 30… let UC or whoever is hot one year get a shot.

which is why I want it expanded.

People say more mediocrity but what it really would be is more power 5 schools in the top 12 getting exposed.

But the powers that be want to continue playing musical chairs with teams like PSU Wisky and Auburn who have 3 losses and still get ranked in the top 20 to help other teams in their conference.
2751002, committee says Oregons head to head win keeps them above Ohio State
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Nov-17-21 11:51 AM
but the committee still thinks Michigan.. lol.

2751003, Michigan State fan?
Posted by Ceej, Wed Nov-17-21 11:55 AM
2751009, Hell no
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Nov-17-21 02:14 PM
2751011, If Michigan State wins out they will be ahead of Michigan, no worries
Posted by Ceej, Wed Nov-17-21 03:04 PM
Getting up in arms about any of these rankings is comical considering they have no bearing on the following weeks rankings.
2751016, and osu will jump oregon if they win out
Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Nov-17-21 05:13 PM
so probably not something to lose sleep over
2751053, Arguing about this is almost as dumb as arguing about 13,14 & 15
Posted by Ceej, Thu Nov-18-21 08:55 AM
not making it into a playoff the 4 times ahead of them didnt even deserve to be in.
2751022, you know that isn’t the point
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Nov-17-21 06:38 PM
the committee says Buckeyes losing 8 weeks ago to Oregon matters..

but Michigan losing 2 weeks ago to MSU doesn’t matter

why should MSU have to win out to jump Michigan?

why should we have to look ahead when we can look back 2 fucking weeks and see MSU beat Michigan in their house?

2751052, What does being 7 vs. 8 right today get them? besides nothing.
Posted by Ceej, Thu Nov-18-21 08:53 AM
I'll hang up and listen.
2751086, if it doesn’t matter why is the committee playing games
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Nov-18-21 05:31 PM
when it comes to which head to head matchups matter when ranking teams?

2751072, What do y'all think about the contract MSU is giving Tuck?
Posted by soulfunk, Thu Nov-18-21 02:38 PM
I'm happy to see a Black coach secure the bag, but it seems really reactionary to sign him for 10 years at 95 million to keep him from leaving, in the middle of his second year and first good season...

He's been doing great in recruiting though and the results this year will only help. The timing is just weird to me, especially considering their OSU game is Saturday...
2751092, wouldn't that make him the highest paid coach next to Saban?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Thu Nov-18-21 06:57 PM
>but it seems
>really reactionary to sign him for 10 years at 95 million to

that's a lot of money. but a lot of big time gigs are opening up this year too.
2751096, Yep - that being said there would be a quick ripple effect with
Posted by soulfunk, Thu Nov-18-21 07:28 PM
other coaches also getting paid. You know Ryan Day's agent gotta be licking his chops ready to get that re-up at OSU after this news...

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/michigan-state-university/2021/11/17/msu-set-give-tucker-10-year-95-million-extension/8654860002/

MSU set to give Mel Tucker historic 10-year, $95 million contract
Matt Charboneau
The Detroit News

Michigan State and football coach Mel Tucker are closing in on a new contract, one that will make him among the highest-paid coaches in college football.

A source close to the negotiations confirmed to The Detroit News on Wednesday that Tucker will get a 10-year, $95 million contract that will make him the highest-paid coach in the Big Ten and the second-highest paid coach in the country behind Alabama's Nick Saban, a former MSU coach who makes $9.753 million. The new deal would also increase the salary pool for assistant coaches, which was at $6 million when Tucker was hired. The source requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the deal.

The deal is expected to be announced as early as Thursday, according to the source.

2751097, read a story that colleges are paying $500+ mill to former coaches
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Nov-18-21 08:42 PM
other the last 5 to 10 years.

Get that money!!! But I will not be surprised if 4 years from now they are paying $15 mill to buy him out.
2751100, The rumor is that this is all funded by two boosters
Posted by soulfunk, Thu Nov-18-21 09:16 PM
Matt Ishbia from United Wholesale Mortgage, and Steve St. Andre. But yeah - that’s a LOT of money vs. a small sample size of results on the field.
2751134, lol

2751698, yes… yesss… the perfect season
Posted by legsdiamond, Sat Nov-27-21 05:37 PM
this is how it plays out for perfect chaos

Buckeyes just lost
Michigan loses to Iowa or Wisky in the Big10 championship

Bama loses to Auburn
Bama beats Georgia in the SEC championship

OKState beats Oklahoma
OKState loses championship game

2751709, Auburn almost pulled it off
Posted by legsdiamond, Sat Nov-27-21 07:42 PM
Bama should drop but they won’t
2751720, Iowa and Wisconsin are not good at all, CINCI is better than both tbh

theres Bama, Michigan, Cincinnati, and...what?

if the committee had a set of balls on them they would put Utah in there but calling them "deserving" would be a long stretch

more deserving than U(sic)GA tho.
2752397, Bama Georgia rematch for the chip... actually don't need a playoff.

like the committee would’ve kept UGA out if OKState won.

and dude acts like he hasn’t been sitting next to Corso all season while Corso has said a group of 5 should never make the playoffs.
