You said the reason traditional powerhouses like USC and Miami are losing recruits is because they face in-state competition. But they're not. They're losing recruits to out-of-state competition.

In 2020, two of the top 20 recruits in California stayed in-state. 9 of the top 20 in Florida stayed in-state (only 3 of the top 10).

In 2019, four of the top 20 recruits in California stayed in-state. 8 of the top 20 in Florida stayed in-state (only 4 of the top 10).

In 2018, nine of the top 20 recruits in California stayed in-state. 7 of the top 20 in Florida stayed in-state (only 1 of the top 10).

Like... this isn't a brand new trend. And yes, when the big California and Florida power schools were great, the recruiting in-state was better. But that's the whole point, really-- we can say "kids want to play in these beautiful states!" all we want, but end of the day, what most of the top recruits really give the biggest shit about is playing for a successful program.
