Either that means something or it means nothing.

It could be that he is just too young and inexperienced to be a captain,
or the players don’t have confidence in his ability to lead.

2746107, I don't know what to expect from the Cowboys this year
Posted by mista k5, Thu Sep-09-21 05:56 PM
I feel good about Dak and the receivers, even TE. I'm not sure that running will be better than average. I'm not sure how much of that is on Zeke/Pollard and how much is on the O-Line. If the O-line can be healthy for once (not a good start) then maybe running will be good.

Defense can't be worse than the first half was last year right??? Parsons looks good but can't put too many expectations on a rookie. If the defense is average overall that will be an improvement.

I'm hoping after a couple games I will think differently but right now I don't expect more than 9-8...or knowing the Cowboys 8-8-1.

Gonna have that white CeeDee jersey on tonight though.
2746111, Can’t properly judge the Oline tonight,
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Sep-09-21 06:09 PM
cuz no Zach Martin. I want to see a few things…and maybe won’t get them all in this game, but…
How does Zeke REALLY look? Not even how many yards and big plays, but does he look electric, dynamic with the ball, like he did a couple seasons ago.

Was Demarcus Lawrence a flash or was last year simply a down year. He looked like he was running in mud, most of last season.

Does the back end of the defense look competent? I don’t expect them to be the Legion of Boom, but just actually play football. There were games last season where it looked like they had no idea how to just play in a football game (the Seahawks game comes to mind)

What is the offensive philosophy? Are we a run first team that can pass due to the play action? Are we a pass first team that uses the short pass to the RB as an extension of the run game? What the fuck are we?
2746112, Mike McCarthy is still your coach so expect to be terrible

the fact that they ran an Andyball offense and almost won (should have won because of that clear OPI) despite the defense is a problem (for opposing NFC East fans).

..Kudos to Dallas for forcing 2 timely turnovers deep in Tampa territory. At the same time, the Bucs escaped the half with the lead and momentum.

Dak looks ok out there, I'm surprised they don't feature their TEs more often.

Brady to Godwin could be a problem this year. Antonio Brown is improving in this offense and finding a groove. Gronk gonna Gronk. All this and Evans has barely been targeted.

If not for Fournette & Jones TOs, this game might be ugly.

Pretty sure there’ll be a rematch in the playoffs
2746181, Could go either way with Dean...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Fri Sep-10-21 08:18 AM
..The coaching staff showed a lot of confidence and patience with Dean and I think it'll pay off in the long run.

Things I liked about last night's game:

• Solid protection
• Great Run Defense
• Special teams
• On-field communication (Esp Brady)

Brady was comfortable in the pocket for most of the game and did a great job of making adjustments before the snap (LOL @ Fournette getting lost a few times). The defense was unfortunately tasked with picking up the slack forced by turnovers, but still showed poise. Kudos to special teams for punt coverage and returns.

Things I didn't like in last night's game:

• Turnovers. Godwin & Jones gave a great second effort for yardage, but forgot the #1 rule of possession: protect the ball at all times. Godwin's TO almost gave Dallas the game.
• Conditioning: Yeah, we all know Tampa's a swamp and it was clear that dehydration was a factor.
• Penalties. Over 100 yds in penalties. When you consider the turnovers, the Bucs basically gave away 3 TDs.

*Also: 14/52 isn't impressive against a team that was horrible against the run last season.

Overall, this is a very smart, fast, & physical unit. The conditioning will likely improve. If they can trim the fat on mental mistakes this season will be a lot of fun to watch.

Fournette actually did well with blitz pickups, but uh...yeah. Obviously Jones ended up in the doghouse after that fumble.

Regardless it's obvious neither is any better catching out of the backfield.

Good point re: special teams. Definitely improved

>many damn passes

Collinsworth was crying about Brady's picks shouldn't count as picks last night but he doesn't do that for other QB's.

I was glad Dallas tried to run that trick play at the end rather than expose Dak and have him trying to throw a 75-yard hail mary that would've likely been picked.
2746194, This sport exists in a balance...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Fri Sep-10-21 09:50 AM
..Yes there were dropped passes and other mistakes made.

They still showed poise and ground out a win against a talented team.

That says a lot about the character of this roster. Nobody knows that better than Brady and he showed it during the post game interview on the field and the presser.

We made a lot of mistakes, but we hung in there and fought for that win. © Brady

This team is still hungry.

..for the record: WRs get blown up regularly when challenging a safety @ the pylon.

please watch that play again (esp the slow motion capture):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmGqN6zLo9w

SMB fell for the fake screen and was working to recover. Winfield Jr. saw that and immediately took the direct route to meet Lamb @ the goal line. *Please note, Winfield was initially covering the middle of the field (TE), meaning he had to cover at least 20 yds or more to meet Lamb before he crossed the goal line.

You can't do that at half speed.

Yes, SMB made a last ditch effort to strip the ball at the same time Winfield attempted push through the Lamb's inside shoulder. Lamb lowered his shoulder and Winfield was slightly off target (just enough to ensure Lamb crossed the goal line with possession. Both players made the right call at the goal line.

*About Lynch. Yeah, we all know he was known for blowing shit up all over the field. That was his job and the league was very different during that era. Eventually the league adapted and players are better for it, but friendly fire situations still occur without malice. Winfield has made some mistakes in his career, but there was nothing dirty about that play.

Cincy covered

Jets missed the cover the by 1 point.

Dogs came to play, but my parlay didn’t hit because jets missed the cover.
Not a bad call on those games today.

Philly won on their over, but falcons didn’t really score shit. Either
Philly’s defense is that good or Ryan is ass now.

Philly is going to be fun as hell to watch

I saw it too. I also saw Melvin Gordon balling after folks have cried and moaned about him not being good for like 5 years. But he keeps beating out other rbs and being solid when he’s healthy.

The negativity machine of the media and social media tends to do a really bad job of saying ‘oh, maybe we overreacted here’.

Remember when Brady lost the opener last year?

Remember when almost everyone was pulling for Teddy to get back and make a decent career for himself? Then we had folks thinking he wouldn’t beat out trash ass Drew Lock? Or that Carolina was gonna be ballin out with Darnold in his place? Bwahahaha. And now, even if Jerry is out for a while, Denver has talent and less IR issues than last year by far. They could beat folks.

As for New Orleans, it is fair to say the Saints offense is not ridiculously hard to run if Brees could do it with a bum shoulder and unreported knee issues for like half of the last decade. And I’m fond of Drew’s career but IJS. If Crab Legs can keep it together and not throw too many seam ints, it should be fine.

Also, I’m going to assume Cam gets a talk with WFT this week? The roster has talent but now it’s pretty clear they don’t have a starting-level QB around. And it’s not like they’re running something dramatically different than Ron’s shit from a few years ago. May as well.

when the season starts. This is why the preseason is very important, and teams
shouldn’t be overly careful about playing their starters.

Green Bay looked like complete crap, and Rodgers looks total out of shape.

Winston has always been a good QB. The Media just stupidly wrote him off

I don’t know what to expect from the bears tonight. Just make it competitive.
2746379, Browns lose to the Real GOAT
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Sep-12-21 06:58 PM
a lot of frustration, but no shame in that really. you really can't do shit after a 75-yard banger to another GOAT-tier player in Tyreek except try to fight back. They got in position, but the pressure was too much.

Browns showed that they got something though, and the hype wasn't false. They just gotta win these games. And I think they will win them in the AFC North. Anthony Schwartz? Dude came out of nowhere and showed up.

Eagles win in a SHOCKER. I am very pleased to see an entire game of functional football, especially on offense from the Eagles, with all the drama of last year just about gone. Yes, I know the Falcons are bad. But the Eagles were WORSE last season, and people have them going 3-14 this year. If this was one of the 3, kudos.

I think the Cowboys might have some trouble.

Jameis has proved that Sean Payton enabled NFL Armageddon last season. I'm happy because it means Boody ain't getting a free ride out of the NFC South.

lol @ the Blue Jays and The Eagles having 22-6 games at the same time.

Say it again. NFC North already has Kirk for the amazingly unspecial qb who keeps getting put on the field. No need for Dalton too! Let’s get some Fields going.
2746385, No need to let Fields get destroyed behind that trash line

I like what I’m seeing. Andy is playing well, and I guess they have to sprinkle
Fields in. That was a nice TD run.

Good play calling. Well balanced attack.

Montgomery has been a stud.

Secondary is trash though, losing Kyle Fuller was a huge loss.

2746394, It’s the secondary. It’s very bad.
Posted by allStah, Sun Sep-12-21 10:08 PM
There is no one back there.

Front line defense did it’s job with stopping the run, but unable
to get pressure on QB

The entire city is going to overreact tomorrow, though.
2746393, Our secondary is terrible, wow
Posted by allStah, Sun Sep-12-21 10:01 PM
Good run defense, though. It’s going to be a long season for our defense.

Tomorrow, everyone is going to be asking for fields to start. No.
He can’t get the ball out quick enough. Andy is actually doing a good
job with getting the ball out fast.

No need to overreact.

Our running game is really good, Montgomery and Williams are a good 1-2
punch.

they balled out today. i love the new offense. defense was great. went from bend but don't break in 1st half to break something off in 'em in 2nd half.

OL looked very good. (sans penalties. hopefully they can clean that up).

will be interesting to see how much was them really balling vs ATL being ass.

i'm lowkey hyped for the season, though.

peace & blessings,

last season the Eagles could hardly put together drives, much less a full game. and by the end of the season they were straight jobbing

Devonta Smith is going to be fun. And now Quez (U Mad) Watkins and Reagor are going to look less of a problem.

Jalen makes some throws that almost seem like he shouldn't be, as late as he gets the ball out. But that fade to Smith?

Maaaan.

I hope Sirianni keeps it up, this is looking like the Vick/Maclin/Jackson era

that fitzpatrick face throw last year, the year before against the Jags when Carr stayed in bounds to let the clock run out and the refs said he ran out of bounds (nfl apologized), Tuck Rule being the most infamous of these, but there are plenty of others, most aren't even controversial, just a matter of them blowing it..

Really a shame he can't stay healthy. The team's running game would have such huge potential if he could.
