2745669, That's The Way Baseball Go (c) II: The Home Stretch
Posted by Dstl1, Tue Aug-31-21 10:46 AM
My Cards will be a non-participant, this post-season...so I'm just along for the ride. Might be time to blow the GM outta there, but that's for another post.

The division leaders are...leading, lol. With the exception of the NL West and maaaaaaybe, the NL East, shit's sewn up. The Wild cards are a different story. Some observations.

I feel like, yesterday, the Mets were 5 games up...now, they're 7 back. Lindor has been AWFU this season and Baez hasn't done much besides his first game after the trade.

The Yankees just had their longest win streak since JFK was president...and they could still end up in a 1 game, winner take all, with Boston.

The Giants...what on Earth? Shit, they're good. Quiet good. Somehow, Buster Posey hopped in the DeLorean with Doc and Marty and went back to like 2012...then they added Kris Bryant.

I thought the Braves were going to fade into Bolivia (c) after Acuna went down, but Freddie Freeman is having none of it. Philly is nipping at their heels, though and Bryce Harper is balling.

Houston is Houstoning...and they just got Alex Bregman back from injury.

The Dodgers have the best pitching staff in baseball...even after losing that guy. It's true. They can throw Max/Clayton/Walker/Urias at you. That's fucking tough.

So, the White Sox and the Padres walk into a bar and played a bunch of teams that were below .500. One of them barely broke even, the other is in first place by 10 games. Gotta beat bad teams, man.

The Brewers are beating up on a bad division. Shout out to Joey Votto, though...that team is going to have a shot at an upset to get in and he is a huge reason why. He's literally made the decision to go from On-Base Daddy to Launch Angle Home Run Bro. Dude is that good, that he changed his style to fit the current state of the game.

Tampa really does this baseball shit better than most. That Nelson Cruz pickup was a great look. They're D'Angelo cruisin' in a division where the two teams behind them will prolly win 90 games.

2745714, lmao at Javy Baez and Lindor crying about boos

Just as a big time accomplishment. Lord knows they deserve it this year.

We have 93 wins and 11 games left. But 8 of these games are against the Blue Jays, Cheatin'-Ass Astros and the Yankees. Not an easy way to finish the season but we can do it.

Long term...I hope we can win the World Series and then with all the good feelings that brings, the Rays and the city of Tampa will come to some agreement about moving the stadium from St. Pete to Tampa. And that stupid split plan with Montreal will get trashed.

Rays Up!

some great playoff history and many connecting points. I was totally expecting Albert to walk it off, on us and he gave it a go. Honestly cracked a little smile when Joe Kelly got out of that jam. I love Joe, man. Now I can go ahead and root for the Dodgers. Some fun guys on their team. Man, it just stings. So many chances to push runs across. It was time to pull Waino…that was the right move. I was confident with every reliever who came out, except fucking Reyes. I knew he was gonna be some shit in that spot. Yadi coming back for one, last season. I really wanted him to get a deep run, but…that’s the way baseball go.

2748246, Yeah, I don't know about this
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Thu Oct-14-21 05:51 PM
In theory it seems like a good tactic. But a change of this size in a game that you would think wouldn't require a major change seems out of left field. Especially when the starting pitching has been superb all series.

But Roberts seems to get his YOLO on during the playoffs. Maybe he's onto something.
2748253, Likely just for the first inning
Posted by blackfoot_female, Thu Oct-14-21 07:23 PM
Should force the Giants to switch up their line up a little I think. Unless Urias told him he couldn't go tonight.

I would expect Urias to pitch the 2nd-5th or 6th, then Joe Kelly, Grateral, and Jensen if needed.

Posted by DJR, Thu Oct-14-21 11:35 PM
Let Taylor hit. Good hitter, clutch, and his outs have been “loud” the last few games. If he doesn’t get it done, leave Kenley in and let him finish. He’s been lights out all year except for one bad week 2 months ago.

But Max is a G and it worked so let’s f’in go!!!
2748278, I didn’t love that, either…
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Oct-14-21 11:42 PM
I’m ok with the logic of it, but Taylor is a stud. Let him eat. Like you said, though…it fuckin worked.

2748284, I was pulling for the Dodgers and the Giants got robbed
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Fri Oct-15-21 12:02 AM
That's as bad as the Deckinger call against the Cards in the '85 World Series.
2748286, They weren’t about to do nothing on Max
Posted by DJR, Fri Oct-15-21 12:19 AM
2748356, That's true
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Fri Oct-15-21 06:01 PM
But for the game, especially such a well-played game to send on a checked-swing call is anti-climatic. But a bad checked-call swing is heartwrenching.

Like others in the post have said, the Giants didn't lose the game on that call. But man, if I was a Giants fan, I'd be pissed as hell.
2748287, It’s rough enough to lose on that call…
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Oct-15-21 12:45 AM
but it was such a bad call…he clearly checked up. Gabe Kapler was amazingly collected, considering it was right after the game. He said he knows the umps try hard to make the right calls and it’s super tough for the game to end that way, but it’s not why they lost the game.
2748296, dont know how that ump made it out of sf alive
Posted by 3xKrazy, Fri Oct-15-21 09:55 AM

2748844, How Roberts manages his pitching staff is baffling and aggravating
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Wed Oct-20-21 08:37 PM
He's both really, really good at his job, and his weak point is really, really frustrating because he can't seem to get better at it.

He puts Urias in during Game 2 when he didn't need to be in there. And now he has Urias in during the 5th inning after giving up 4 runs.

2748851, idiotic. As is playing Lux in CF
Posted by DJR, Wed Oct-20-21 09:20 PM

If you can win the WS without your best all around player and one of the best players in the game. What kind of flexibility and hope does that give you for next season? Or not at all? Baseball is such an interesting sport in that way.
