Because they do that with art too. And with politics. Anything that requires some degree of craft, from sports to home repair to social reform to parenting to anything else-- there's always a billion assholes telling you, "See, here's what you gotta do."

Problem with sports, arts, and politics is the sheer proliferation of coverage on TV and online. They all need talking heads, and they all need clicks. And there's so much money funding these things.

I don't think critics or analysts are the problem-- there are plenty of insanely smart people that can tell you exactly what works and what doesn't without having *done the thing*. For sports, for instance, Sam Vecenie's a great example of a hoops podcaster I love, or the Three Man Weave podcast for college hoops, and while none of them played college on, they have fantastic insight into the game. But unfortunately for them, they're giving actual nuanced and detailed analysis. They discuss coverages, detailed skill sets, team fundamentals, statistical analysis, etc. And there's no room for that in the broader conversation. The broader conversation just wants "Is This Guy A Fraud??" There are plenty of critics and analysts doing that, unfortunately... but also plenty of former players/coaches/etc. Anyone chasing that dollar.

We just have to demand more.
