2742323, 2021 NBA Finals: Milwaukee Bucks vs Phoenix Suns
Posted by CyrenYoung, Sun Jul-04-21 06:42 AM
With Giannis still listed as day to day on the injury report, Milwaukee is hoping for a speedy recovery by game time, Tues night.

Phoenix will be rested and ready to run.

Agendas falling all around lol.

Have at it.

*skatin' the rings of saturn*

..and miles to go before i sleep...
2742324, Glad its two small market teams in the finals

2742325, that sounds weird as hell lol, whomever picked that matchup in vegas...
Posted by ThaTruth, Sun Jul-04-21 07:45 AM
probably made some serious money
2742326, I hope we get some form of a serviceable Giannis.
Posted by Soldado, Sun Jul-04-21 09:23 AM
Enough that both teams are relatively full strength and the injury doesn’t become a major talking point in discussing who the better team is/was.

No dog in the fight for me. I just want a hard fought competitive series that does well with viewers and dispels most of the small market narrative.
2742329, all of this nm

2742342, I have to think even healthy the Suns would be favored.
Posted by Ryan M, Sun Jul-04-21 06:20 PM
Would love to see this with a healthy Giannis, but at best we’ll see hobbled Giannis it seems.

But the Suns are huge favorites. Hard to see this going 6, to be honest.
2742349, With healthy Giannis, I’d honestly go Bucks in… maybe 5.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Jul-05-21 02:06 AM
The Suns just have nooooo one for Giannis. And if Ayton tries too hard to stop him at the rim, and Ayton gets in foul trouble, it’s game over very very quickly. Because the Bucks have terrific perimeter defenders to slow Paul and Booker. Suns just don’t have the personnel for Giannis.

But yeah, without Giannis, it’s very, very different. And yeah, Suns should be favored presently.
2742367, this is a great outcome. may the best team win.
Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Jul-05-21 02:21 PM
I'm pulling for Phoenix and think they're the more consistent team.
But I think Milwaukee played their ASSES off against a team that could have well have made them go home. Even after the Trae injury.

Giannis would be in the books.
2742369, Yeah, so Chris Paul did say something to Pat Bev which is why
Posted by allStah, Mon Jul-05-21 03:10 PM
Pat only got a 1 game suspension.

It was just reported on Speak for Yourself.

The league talked to Mark Davis ( the ref) about the incident...
in the video you can see Mark Davis reacting even before Pat
shoves Chris.

Apparently, Chris made a very disparaging comment.

2742374, Soft generation smh

2742386, Should’ve played better
Posted by DJR, Mon Jul-05-21 08:53 PM
and shouldn’t have talked shit the five times he actually got a bucket all series.

Paul put 40 on his fake hustle spazzy ass, and got him to lose his shit. Paul won.
2742377, Why should that change the length of the suspension?
Posted by Soldado, Mon Jul-05-21 05:01 PM
Is this some new policy?

They determine the penalty for a physical act based on whether the other player said some mean words to you first?
2742381, I still haven't seen reported anywhere what he said.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Jul-05-21 07:17 PM
There's no reason for Bev to have his suspension shorted because of something CP3 said.

Unless CP3 chose that moment to tell Bev that Taiwan is an independent country, and the NBA is letting Bev off easy to keep him quiet.
2742384, I doubt it will ever be reported.
Posted by allStah, Mon Jul-05-21 08:32 PM
But obviously the league felt the need to issue a short
suspension because of it, and Paul’s history as a dirty player
probably influenced the decision as well.

2742385, You specifically said it was reported.
Posted by Soldado, Mon Jul-05-21 08:46 PM
2742390, It was reported that Paul did say something, but not
Posted by allStah, Mon Jul-05-21 10:34 PM
what he actually said.....

And correction. I thought it was a report being given by Ric Bucher, but it
was actually him opining.

Here is the episode.

2742408, very disparaging comment

2742436, lol
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jul-06-21 01:59 PM
2742412, lol how many games you think a push in the back is getting?
Posted by Cenario, Tue Jul-06-21 10:18 AM
Paul got suspended 2 games for poking rondo in the eye and throwing punches

Rondo got 3 games for spitting at and punching paul multiple times

you think a push in the back is gonna get the same punishment as that? I think a game suspension is closer to harsh than too lenient.
2742430, I agree. He shouldn’t have gotten suspended.
Posted by allStah, Tue Jul-06-21 12:14 PM
I was talking to the individuals who felt Paul didn’t say anything to ignite
the situation, and people were upset that he wasn’t suspended for more
games.
2742471, Sure seems like a lot of tough talk
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Jul-06-21 06:41 PM
From Mr. The Next 5 Years Are Mine and the dude who made fun of CP3 for getting hurt.

Oh well.
2742409, I'm here for the Brooks Lopez v. Deandre Ayton undercard
Posted by Amritsar, Tue Jul-06-21 09:54 AM
Also as a fan of a team that went from Very Ashy to Very Classy the previous decade, I'm stoked for the Suns' and Bucks' fans.

2742435, at least it's not UTA vs MIL
Posted by bearfield, Tue Jul-06-21 01:55 PM
not terribly excited about this. i'm sure there will be a lot of "real" x's and o's basketball but i think both teams are boring to watch. PHX less so than MIL because there is some flex to the sun's offense but still uninteresting. i don't think MIL can handle cp3/book midrange or stifle PHX's 3P prowess. without a full strength giannis MIL is completely dependent on middleton (at best) or holiday, lopez, and forbes (at worst) going off to keep up with PHX's consistent offense. it might be even worse than i'm imagining because both teams are pretty strong defensively. hopefully we don't get a defensive battle where both teams are combining for 160 points every game
2742447, tell me you're a casual basketball fan without telling me you're a casual basketball fan
Posted by Cenario, Tue Jul-06-21 03:26 PM

2742474, What? Lmao. Both these teams are exciting.
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Tue Jul-06-21 07:42 PM

2742470, Should be a good finals and hope they don’t CP3 love fest us to death.

2742475, This gives me Durant vibes. Way too soon.
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Tue Jul-06-21 07:43 PM
Im worried he is going to do something and be out even longer.
2742476, While true... it's Milwaukee, and it's the Finals.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jul-06-21 07:56 PM
It's not like the Lakers, where we know they'll be back in the next 3-5 years. I don't blame Giannis for wanting to do everything humanly possible to carry this roster right now.
2742477, Damn I miss real basketball warmup suits.
Posted by allStah, Tue Jul-06-21 08:01 PM
They are out there wearing jogging suits, no color, nothing.....

2742479, Booker running the offense finally....as he should.

Posted by bearfield, Tue Jul-06-21 09:53 PM
i'm barely watching this (working) but it seems like every time i turn my head to watch i see book/cp3 iso or pick and roll into a good look. if i'm not mistaken ATL tore MIL up with pick and roll in game 1 of ECF and MIL made some good adjustments for the rest of the series. i think the difference is that MIL only had to account for 1 ball handler on the floor at a time with ATL in either trae or lou will. with PHX they have to account for some combination of cp3/book/payne. not quite sure what MIL can about this do but we'll see in game 2
2742492, Bud needs to be shot.
Posted by allStah, Tue Jul-06-21 09:55 PM
Leaving Portis on an island against Booker and Paul, and
not making the adjustment on it.

He even put Lopez on him. What the hell is he thinking.

You got Teague on the bench. He has the speed and played well earlier....

2742493, Does Jrue Holiday have a mask and a gun when picks up his paycheck?

2742498, He literally got them to the Finals. His game suffers with Giannis.

2742503, Why didn’t Brook Lopez play the second half?
Posted by allStah, Tue Jul-06-21 10:46 PM
He went with Giannis at the 5. That was stupid. He took a shooter and
inside scorer off the floor.

Putting Giannis close to the basket doesn’t mean shit, because they are
just going to wrap him up and put him on the line.

Gotta have shooters to space the floor.
2742505, Defensive liability?
Posted by Soldado, Tue Jul-06-21 11:00 PM
Suns guards were attacking those bigs on the perimeter the way the Hawks guards refused to do.
2742506, CP3 and Booker were looking for him.

Count the dick punches....count them...count the intentional
shoulder pulls to injure someone.

Please stop. No one likes him because he doesn’t respect the game.
On and off the court he is a piece of shit.

Kmart on why players don’t like him.

2742540, everybody knows that cp3 is a dirtbag on the court.
Posted by tariqhu, Wed Jul-07-21 01:23 PM
that play doesn't demonstrate that. same play happens in nearly every game. I hate that it's a legal move but he wasn't doing dirt....this time.

They in here acting like that slip was natural lol, chris Paul is a golden globe caliber thespian 🎭 who would thrive on stage in a Broadway musical or in TV shows movies and commercials
2742524, He held up to draw the foul, but he would have done it to anybody
Posted by T Reynolds, Wed Jul-07-21 10:54 AM
regardless

I don't think he was targeting Giannis cause of the knee or anything, like trying to hurt him

Anyway Bucks don't strike me as a 'skirmishing' type team. PJ Tucker just gonna poke somebody in the eye or hammer at them all game like it's football, but none of the starters gonna put in work.

2742525, I don’t give benefit of doubt to guys w a history of dirty play

jesus, cp3 has touched a lot of nuts.
2742532, You ever fight with a little guy
Posted by T Reynolds, Wed Jul-07-21 11:37 AM
they're dirty sometimes and take shit too far, it's their nature

granted CP is 6 foot but obviously the dirty shit stems from a need to even the playing field.

I am glad Rondo put hands on him, CP was ready for it though. Who cares?

The dick punching is obviously inexcusable but I'm just not seeing anything warranting a dirty play label in these playoffs at least
2742528, nothing wrong w/ that IMO.
Posted by PROMO, Wed Jul-07-21 11:16 AM
he slipped, but even before that i do think he was trying to get Giannis to run into him which is just smart to me.

why not draw a foul on their best player and potentially get an +1?

that's smart basketball.
2742536, literally everyone was like "bev is such a sore loser omg"
Posted by RandomFact, Wed Jul-07-21 12:04 PM
no, bev doesn't like that guy and had nothing to lose. he got it in when he could.

cp has done some seriously bitchmade shit throughout his career and he truly deserves/deserved to get touched up.
2742538, Shoving in the back is cool if you “don’t like him”?
Posted by DJR, Wed Jul-07-21 01:21 PM
Lol.

If Paul was getting booted from playoffs after getting his ass kicked all game and shoved someone(it couldn’t even theoretically be Bev because he sucks) in the back, I doubt some of you would be defending it.

But what happened is Paul didn’t do anything to Bev but bust his ass and hurt his feelings, and Bev.....pushed him in the back.

Way to show him, Bev!

I actually felt kinda bad for Patrick.
2742590, He probably said something personal and over the line
Posted by guru0509, Wed Jul-07-21 06:25 PM
And he reacted .

I’m not a pat bev defender by any means but I’m glad a dirty player line him shoved another dirty player …in a dirty manner

Posted by HecticHavoc, Thu Jul-08-21 04:09 PM
for as long as i've been here and yelling at Laker fans... my team is 3 away.

other than the Steelers heartbreak this city hasn't seen a championship game/series in over 20 years.

i've been pretty hard on Ayton but man has he been the best player in the playoffs. this is what everyone here (that didnt go to U of A. those dipshits are blind) has expected him to be like, but thankfully CP3 opened that door for him to believe he can do it. CP3 is kinda like Morpheus in a way.

Saric injury hurts big time. hopefully they can mix more time with Cam J and run, but Frank is going to have to make his hometown hate him if we are going to close this out.

But a) it makes almost no sense he is ABLE to play and b) good lord you can’t tell he’s even hurt at all this game - absolutely dominant
2742647, He looks like he always does. That knee is a non issue.

Tired of Breen bringing it up every other play.
2742648, Middleton HAS to get like 15-20 more for them to win
Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jul-08-21 09:43 PM
He’s certainly capable.

But cmon man, PJ has 7 points too.

They miss his solid defense, rebounding and 3 point shooting.

Middleton is at the 2 with tucker at the 3 ...ain’t getting shit with that.

Divencenzo would be on booker and holiday on Paul...Middleton
would be at the 3 with a mismatch, instead being the 2 and forced to
guard booker. ...and tucker who isn’t a scorer wouldn’t be on the floor...

Haberstroh was saying Friday...Devin Booker and CP3 have scored the most points of any back court, through 2 games...IN FINALS HISTORY. Let that sink in, while you think of some of the back courts that you've seen over time. Wasn't J-Rue supposed to be a lockdown defender? Four first round picks. Is it him or Bud's defensive strategy?
2742798, Kinda makes sense though

Shit - how many TEAMS? Russ/Beal are the only one that came to mind other than the Suns.
2742803, Good point…

that the league loses money on a Finals sweep, breaks even on a 5 game series and makes loot on a 6 or 7 game series. They put in their defensive stopper, tonight.
2742805, I think one of Zach Lowe's guest recently said it.

All jokes aside, *IF* the NBA was concerned about a perception that they alter games,
they could solve it by allowing officials to be their own company vs. being employees of the NBA.
2742824, does any professional sports league do that?

2742865, Don’t they get paid per game too?
Posted by pretentious username, Mon Jul-12-21 08:36 AM
I remember them mentioning this on the Whistleblower podcast. The concern is the refs have every reason to want a series to be extended if they are paid per game. Would probably be tough to get the ref Union to agree to this, but if they changed their pay from a per game rate to a decent salary that would help change perception.
2742878, I forgot about that part.
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Mon Jul-12-21 09:58 AM
You're right.
As constructed all parties involved want a longer series.
I don't see the NBA changing their pay but essentially giving up control of the refs in order to showcase some sense of transparency.

2742842, LMAO. I had to check twitter for this reference. Internet did not dissapoint.

It ain't like dude is playing well. Pretty much anyone who gets him on the perimeter is locking him up out there. Even Giannis.

If Bucks trapped and forced the ball out of his hamds, someone else on the Suns might actually have a chance to do something without him dribbling the air out the ball every possession.

Booker shouldn't have even had 5 fouls when he was called. that no-call was a make up IMO

now it's gonna go at least 6.

Get it together Phoenix

2743077, Jrue is a nightmare matchup for him. Payne is a better fit.
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Thu Jul-15-21 08:47 AM
Paul cant get the ball passed the half court line in less than 10-15 second with Jrue guarding him. Messes up the flow of the offense or he just dribbles the clock out and chucks a shot up. Cameron Payne is just better equipped to get the offense flowing with Jrue guarding. Williams has a tough decision to make or this series could swing in a bad way
2743066, I like seeing a humble CP3 in the press conference lol

Posted by Vex_id, Thu Jul-15-21 10:43 PM
Slayed the Big Bad Wolf (BKN) with true grit. Suffered what appeared to be a season ending injury that would've taken most guys out, and somehow comes out more dominant as the pressure heats up.

He's been unbelievable in high-leverage moments and is putting up historic numbers. I've always had great respect for his game, but am cheering for him harder than I ever have after seeing this run and the way he's leading this Bucks team.

Hell of a story if he can take the 'chip.

2743282, so at what point does the 'best leader' shit get deaded?
Posted by Stadiq, Sat Jul-17-21 10:48 PM

Paul is good no doubt. He seems like a great teammate.

But in no way is he some kind of legendary leader of men like some have made him out to be.

How many times do his teams have to under-perform to kill this shit?

Even this year. Way too much credit was given to him vs Monty, Book, roster upgrades, Ayton growth, etc.

And...lets be real...the best games Phx played lately? Most of them were with Paul out.

Where did Chris Paul as some kind of mix between Magic Johnson and General Patton or some shit start? Was it Charles Barkley's dumbass?

I don't get it. He's underachieved his entire career.
2743285, ^^^^^^^ All Of This
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Sat Jul-17-21 10:52 PM
I'd put Steve Nash way ahead of Paul in terms of leadership and career. Jason Kidd as well. Annoyed me when people kept saying Paul was the best player on this team. I still believe they play better and faster with him out, and Payne or Booker running the ball. Atleast, this version of Chris Paul has been playing since Game 2.
2743294, I wasn't even talking all-time
Posted by Stadiq, Sat Jul-17-21 11:07 PM

but at his position he isn't cracking top 5 now that you mention it.

Seems like a few emotional dudes will somehow take offense to that, but Magic, O, Zeke, J-Kidd, AI, Curry, shiiiit Payton, are we considering Harden a PG? how far can we go?

I fucking hate Steve Nash but....fuck it you're right. His teams over-achieved at times for sure.

CP3 might be lucky to crack top 10. I know that doesn't fit the current narrative or whatever, but at some point we gotta be real.

2743295, He’s better than Payton

Xactly
2743337, Paul’s been good for almost twice as long as GP was
Posted by DJR, Sun Jul-18-21 01:49 PM
GP got bounced round 1 by an 8 seed, and lit up by Van Exel in his prime. And missed the playoffs several times his last 4-5 years in Seattle.

We remember and emphasize what we want to, I guess.

GP was a great player, but we can’t nitpick Paul and hype GP as more than he was. They made nice runs in 93 and 96, and the rest of his career was mostly playoff disappointments and misses.
2743346, GP was good until he was 35 yrs old.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Sun Jul-18-21 05:49 PM
Do you really want to go down this road of pointing out all the times CPPlea has shitted the bed in he playoffs?

And again if non-HOF’er Jute is slutting out CP. what would prime Glove do?

CP is down that list. Not even Top 10 pg of all time.

2743347, but he didn’t get good until he was 25

No, that’s been pointed out 24/7 by half the board, I’m just applying that same pressure elsewhere. They both made a finals and a conference finals when they mattered.

If Van Exel was cooking GP, what would Paul do?

Van Exel had one good series against Glove. Whoopty doo.

Oscar
Kidd
Glove
Stockton

Nash

Also, it’s pretty tough when you have to score every point to remain competitive cuz your pg is shitting on himself again.

All of them are better than CP. Most of them by a lot. And none of them turn into hoes during every single big game.

He's just overrated as fuck by some. Mostly the media. A few on here. I don't even know if that includes you, but you seem in your feeling either way.

Uhhh...ok? I agree, the blocking of the trade years back was some bullshit.

Like I said, I truly miss the old Doc.

My only point is that Chris Paul is overrated. Especially on this run...with ESPN/TNT trying to make a story, etc.

I don't deny that he's good. I also don't deny that his teammates love him, etc.

The Suns have underperformed?

2743342, I mean...
Posted by Ryan M, Sun Jul-18-21 03:14 PM
To your point - it's absolutely hard to say they "underperformed", but they are the 1 seed, went up 2-0, and have had ample opportunities to put this series away in 5. They've still had an incredible season, but how quickly the narrative changed from before the Finals started, when they were the darlings and the favorites (let alone when they went up 2-0) to now.
2743365, thank you
Posted by Stadiq, Sun Jul-18-21 10:55 PM

Not sure why its so hard for some to step back and be objective.

After the first 2 games, no one expected this.

Hell, the Suns were favored prior to Game one.

Folks were predicting Giannis would be out NEXT SEASON.

the Suns have had a great year- my point is that the credit needs to be spread a little more evenly.

And if the Bucks do seal it, that's one more series CP3 lost that he should have won. *shrugs*

Anyone saying differently is being dishonest. They were favored. Especially with a hobbled Giannis.

If Paul is the greatest leader in the league, and his second best (lol) player is Booker.....

What does that Make Giannis/Middleton??

And the best games PHX played in the last several weeks? Paul was home taking zinc and vitamin c.

2743316, Per usual, legendary overreactions popping off, lol.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Jul-18-21 09:54 AM
I recall a few weeks ago, when Giannis was a fraud and Bud needed to be fired.

Now CP3 is back to being the fraud. After he averaged 28 and 9 in the first two games. Of the NBA Finals. A week ago. And dropping 41 and 8 in the game that clinched the Western Conference Finals. Two weeks ago. At 36 years old. (!!!)

I'm just enjoying the greatness, man. Anyone that wants to give this series the Skip Bayless reaction treatment, feel free-- but I'm too goddamn happy with the product we've been given and the depth of truly *great* performances on both sides we're witnessing to have the thought cross my mind that one team lost to another because of fraudulence, lol.

Sometimes, one great team is just a little greater than the other great team. That'd make for a shitty First Take segment, but y'know.

The big knock against him has been his overall inflexibility when it comes to making adjustments-- but he's indisputably been making great adjustments since the Brooklyn series ended. And he's one game away from going from The Great Regular Season Guy to a title winner.
2743326, Yup, it’s been a great series

Jrue was getting cooked by Phoenix’s back court at a historic rate…while shooting 31%. Now, he’s the prime Gary Payton and one of the best adjustments we’ve ever seen made in a Finals series.
2743333, And Phoenix is FAR from out of it.
Posted by Ryan M, Sun Jul-18-21 12:17 PM

2743344, Curious to see if Budenholzer and the Bucks coaching staff
Posted by Numba_33, Sun Jul-18-21 04:59 PM
will drill it into the player's heads to stop on the switching when the Suns run plays involving screens. The Suns were able to get a ton of favorable half-court mismatches in Game 5.
2743372, I'm not convinced they have much of a choice, tbh.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Jul-19-21 12:18 AM
The Suns are just so tailor made to decimate drop coverage, specifically because of Chris Paul. There's almost no better guard in the NBA against drop coverage than CP3-- because he just reads the game at such a high level, he will pick apart any softness. And then when you add Booker's prowess in the mid-range and pull-up situations, forget it.

So it seems like those switches are designed specifically to remain in CP3's face and force him to work for every single possession. Because if you can wear him down, not just for the game but for the series, then there's nothing Phoenix can do. Yes, Booker can go for 50, yes, the Suns can still shoot at an absurd rate... but if you can affect CP3, then that calculated gamble is probably more likely to cash.

It seems like that plan has been employed a lot more in Games 3 through 5 than Games 1 and 2... and it seems to be working. (For now.)

I don't envy any team to have to defend CP3/Booker/Ayton/two shooters. That's just... ridiculous in terms of offensive versatility.

he doesnt even have to hit the 3 at a steady clip if middleton and jrue could hit it consistently

Yep. His warts are clear, especially in this era where damn near everyone can drop jumpers.

But that raw effort, constantly attacking the basket, anchoring an adult outfit on defense, and then having the nerve to make some free throws too!? Yeah, I’m old enough to remember when this is what teams were trying to find.

And besides that, Giannis is an easy motherfucker to be happy for. So I’m certainly that right now. Very fun nba finals. All-time performance by Giannis. Great efforts by other guys on the team too.

Too bad for Paul and shiiiid, I just don’t see them making it back. Maybe they figure something out and prove me wrong. That would be cool too!

>this isn’t even happening.

Let’s be harsh for a minute on that Brooklyn team. We have to remember that health issues and fear of some kind of shenanigans was baked into their existence from the beginning. KD and fat Thor ass Harden both missed hella games with injuries and Kyrie was his enigmatic self too.

So it’s about right that those mfers would get to the playoffs then have issues with health. And they did. KD ALMOST made it happen with that crazy game 7 performance off of a major injury. But then he ran out of gas trying to carry those dudes and he didn’t. They lost. And they don’t deserve jack shit. No concessions. No woulda coulda shoulda. Fuck those dudes. They couldn’t stay helathy, they barely played together the whole season, they showed up with a guest host head coach, nobody really stepped up beyond KD as some kind of reliable presence, and they LOST. And that’s even with all of the Expendibles-type name brand bench guys they brought in too.

Having spewed all of that, I do agree that ‘superteams’ aren’t gonna stop cuz free agency is still free. Guys can go where they want to go. And they should. But if they get to go play with their homeboys somewhere, fuck the bullshit. Fuck the excuses. Win or S all the way tfu and step aside for the folks who did win. Especially when folks under contract cry their way into a trade to go where they wanna go. They REALLY get a win or shut up from me. Brooklyn has all of that going for their roster. It’s exactly who they wanted. AND THEY LOST! SO FUCK EM! Haha
2743563, Kyrie landed funny, Hardens injury was v predictable like you said

He had games where he was chucking 3s and turn around jumpers. That's fair game. He also couldn't buy a free throw to save his life at certain points. People were going too far with it, acting like he wasn't still a Top 5 guy in the NBA... but some of the criticism of his early-round play was fair imo.

And he deserves a fuckton of credit for turning it around. The style of play, the aggression on D, the free throws, all of it.

Giannis played like a superstar in 4 straight games.
Middleton was unreal. Even in Game 6, where he really was kind of subdued, he hit the shots that mattered.
Jrue was amazing on defense (mostly).

Overall, the Bucks knew their roles and didn't over do it. Especially Giannis.

Fuckin Budenholzer ACTUALLY MADE ADJUSTMENTS THAT WORKED.

The "Gotta Go To Golden State" meme for Giannis is dead.
Giannis has more Finals MVPs than Steph, who still has less rings than LeBron.

I can live with this.
2743566, This sucks. Especially the way the Suns went out.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-21-21 12:06 AM
I'd like to think they'd come back stronger, but there's too many players I don't trust.

Ayton looked scared and pussy.

And so much had to happen for the Suns to get there. AD out. Murray out. Kawhi hurt.

2743568, Ayton and Booker are still just so young. Bridges too.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Jul-21-21 12:12 AM
They've got a strange timeline with CP3 having limited years of efficacy yet, but the rest of the core still realistically needing another year, maybe two, to really hit their stride.

Still, insanely valuable experience. I'd expect them to be a better team next year, assuming they resign CP3. But you're right, the West will be tougher next year with the Lakers and Nuggets healthier. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
2743569, True. But Ayton was real disappointing.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-21-21 12:18 AM
And they need a point guard and another playmaker on offense.
2743596, Depth definitely needs to be addressed this offseason.

2743570, IDK about Booker, man.
Posted by Soldado, Wed Jul-21-21 12:31 AM
He's so emotionally erratic and does too much low IQ shit at times.

And when you're THE GUY, you can't just be disappearing in important games. Getting benched in The Finals is unthinkable. And once the shooting goes, he's not really contributing much of anything else to help make up for it.

The talent is obviously there but he's gotta be a lot more responsible and reliable.
2743573, Outside of CP3 & Crowder none of those guys had been in the playoffs…

2743584, I wouldnt resign CP3 if i'm the Suns. He's 36 and hobbled.
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Wed Jul-21-21 08:32 AM
He just doesn't have the body to go deep in the playoffs. They need a younger point guard. And i don't like the way the "complain to the refs and flop" CP3 style has basically invaded the entire Suns team. I just wouldn't risk a deep playoff run resulting in the same outcome. Strong on the ball defender basically rendered him irrelevant and exhausted after two games.
2743589, I agree.I also would’ve never signed him in the first place.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-21-21 09:09 AM
2743598, He averaged 23 and 9 in the last three rounds of the playoffs.

Yes, he couldn't handle Jrue in the last ~5 games. But the way to remedy that is bringing in another PG. If he plays closer to 27 MPG instead of 35 MPG, that makes a *huge* difference.

If you don't resign CP3, what PG is available that fills that role and those stats as effectively? Everyone wants to say "he's old, don't re-sign him," but no one has a real plan for what they do to replace his production and his leadership.
2743647, I'd sign Mike Conley or Kyle Lowry over Paul in a heartbeat.

Both are available this summer.
2743648, Oh man, we are on very different pages.

Have a good day!
2743778, He also would not have been able to handle Murray in Round 2.

2743782, the Suns didn't make the playoffs last year without him and nobody had...

them in the finals, I hate CP3 but the narrative shifts are crazy for both teams
2743614, Suns just need depth...another Big especially. They are set for years.

They can draft CP3's successor or trade for a young PG and keep going.
2743574, Did CP3 pull a Lebron and walkoff without shaking hands?
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Jul-21-21 04:52 AM
2743586, he did, but not sure why this is ever a big deal.
Posted by tariqhu, Wed Jul-21-21 08:39 AM
players have done this forever.
2743594, its really not but people tried to make it a big deal with Isiah Thomas.

2743612, yeah, that's how racism works.

it's really hard to feel sorry for him. the bucks were lucky he didn't go out throwing a cheap shot or two.

that quick shot of him storming off the court right after the loss felt about right. on the court, he's the opposite of the "pros pro" he's made out to be.
2743637, This is true. Surprised he didn't try to take out Giannis' legs.

Perks takes (Giannis is the robin) were wildly stupid so it’s fair game

Everything he does just kicks ass.

As a total neutral party it’s been legitimately joyful to see the Bucks win.
2743743, I root for him because people tried to trash him before, dude is 26 y/o...

younger than Lebron and Jordan when they won their first title
