Boston head coach Brad Stevens is planning to transition from his current role into becoming the new head of basketball ops. of the Celtics, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Danny Ainge plans to resign from his role as Celtics President, sources said.

I mean, Tatum is a once in a lifetime talent, and he's only 23.

I was gonna say that Brad Stevens was in trouble but

lol, sadly, I don't think there's a chance Stevens lands the Duke gig. It'll go to Scheyer. Still, Stevens can chill in the front office for 3 years til Scheyer gets fired and then the job is his for the taking. Win win for him.

There’s no need to promote him just bc Ainge is retiring. At best you might extend his contract to give him more money to stay as coach with anew GM. But it looks like this has been in the works.

yeah.. they had some nice runs to the finals but they got by on free throws like a muhhfukka. They would have spells of no made baskets that lasted for an eternity but they kept getting to the FT line

We’ll see how Brad does in a new role. I can’t picture him being a strong negotiator with agents and other GMs, but maybe. Ainge had to go though. He pulls off a genius move every few years but in between those genius moves he has a bunch of little fuck ups that add up. That and I’m pretty sure the other GMs hate him cause he’s constantly trying to lowball them.

I’m guessing this has been in the works for a while now so that they didn’t have to fire Danny. That’s fine, but after his comments where he said he had never heard of racist stuff happening to athletes in Boston I really wanted him fired.

Is they don’t want to search for a coach and GM at the same time. So maybe Brad just fills in as GM for a bit and then hires someone else to do it.

he's known as more of an X's and O's guy, doesn't seem the greatest at managing personalities (Boston fans correct me if I'm wrong on that), and he personally does not like dealing with agents to the point where he doesn't have one himself. almost like they're setting him up as the anti-Pelinka, which would be cool if this was a comic book, but not sure if it works in real life.
