2734947, Paul Pierce was just released of his analyst position at ESPN.
Posted by allStah, Mon Apr-05-21 07:02 PM
Apparently, he did an IG live in a room full of strippers.

I don’t think that was a wise move, but at the same time I don’t
think it warranted a termination either. I can see a suspension, or
a documentation, but to terminate a man for a slight indiscretion?

https://youtu.be/S66G_dkBtB0

Looks like a bachelor party, but of course it’s going to get sensationalized.

And I’m not into strippers or stuff like that, not my thing.

2734948, The man works for Disney.
Posted by Ryan M, Mon Apr-05-21 07:39 PM
AKA he's an idiot for having done this.

It's not merely attending a strip club or a private party with strippers...it's literally broadcasting it. You know - like an idiot.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
2734949, It isn’t like he is a sports analyst for Pronhub
Posted by calij81, Mon Apr-05-21 07:45 PM
2734950, And let's be real. He sucks as an analyst anyway.
Posted by Ryan M, Mon Apr-05-21 07:47 PM
They can literally get any retired player to do his job, and likely do it better than him.

But they'll damn sure fire you if you suck AND are posting dumb things on social media. At least make it a dilemma by being good at your job, Paul.
2734955, Too many former players half-ass it with their commentary gigs
Posted by RandomFact, Mon Apr-05-21 08:17 PM
They half-ass or they're just flat out not good. I think Paul falls into both categories.

Shouldn't been too hard to find more Greg Anthony's and Kenny Smith's over a guy like Paul Pierce.

2734958, Lol..yea. P is a hell of a player...
Posted by Dstl1, Mon Apr-05-21 08:21 PM
but, the broadcast isn’t losing anything, with him being gone.
2734951, when Dana Jacobson worked for ESPN
Posted by allStah, Mon Apr-05-21 07:50 PM
she was recorded drinking a huge bottle of liquor on stage,
and was drunk out of her mind, while spewing vulgarities.
It was worse than Pierce’s recording.

https://images.app.goo.gl/F2C1m5hAbqTbfHCi6

It was all over the net. She got a suspension.

But of course she’s white. And now she is an even bigger
reporter for CBS.

Just saying, stick with the same standard and not the double standard.
Working for a company that’s owned by Disney has nothing to do with
double standards.

Not a wise move by Pierce, but not as outlandish as people are making it.

2735013, Did you just compare what Pierce did to a ROAST???!!
Posted by CyrenYoung, Tue Apr-06-21 12:49 PM
LMAO!!

And you wonder why people clown you around here.

2735014, He also called it "the net"
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Apr-06-21 12:56 PM
So like....take that for what it's worth

*oldManYellsAtCloud.jpg*
2735328, it was called "the net" with that girl from the bus. (c) Frank Costanza
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Sun Apr-11-21 11:07 PM
2735021, Yes, a public roast that was recorded live.
Posted by allStah, Tue Apr-06-21 02:12 PM
That is why she was suspended. Pierce was on his own time
on his own property.

The fact you don’t understand that is mind boggling.

Jacobson was on stage while being recorded guzzling liquor
and screaming vulgarities. That is why she was suspended,
and people were asking for her to get terminated. And the
comparisons has already been made.

You’re not too bright here, and you always go the personal route.
And you put tons of exclamation marks after your question like
a child. You tell on yourself in how you type.

2735037, I'm sorry that specific punctuation leave you feeling less of a man...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Tue Apr-06-21 05:01 PM
..but my words and opinion appear to be the least of your issues, dude.

• an employee being suspended for behaving foolishly at an event made for behaving foolishly

• an employee being fired for flagrantly going against the current code of conduct for employee social distancing during this pandemic (flaunting this in public, repeatedly stating "fuck everyone")

The fact that you lack the comprehension skills to see the difference between these 2 scenarios is more than enough reason to conclude that you're a fuckin' idiot. Here's a hint, clown:

Only one of these incidents involve someone compromising public safety. That person was fired.

2735040, Wrong.
Posted by allStah, Tue Apr-06-21 05:23 PM
There was a reason why she was disciplined, and why
people were calling for her termination. If it were simply
just a roast or a place of being vulgar, there wouldn’t have
been any discipline at all. Lol

If she weren’t disciplined you would have a point. But she was
disciplined and it was less severe because she was white.
She was forced to issue an apology and she was somewhat
demoted. So it was a pretty big focking deal. They could
have fired her because her behavior violated their personal and
professional conduct policy.

Paul deserved the same standard. And I’m sure if he were white,
the retribution would have been less severe.

2735052, I knew you were stupid when it comes to sports...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Wed Apr-07-21 05:59 AM
..but you're proving yourself to be a complete idiot.

We all know what white privilege is. We all know that Pierce will never have the benefit of white privilege. As such, it makes his recent actions even more ridiculous.

Granted, Pierce has more than enough clout & $$$ to find something to get into. You claim he deserved the same opportunities given to Jacobson, but have no clue if they offered to suspend him if he agreed to apologize, yet refused (as they've done with other people in similar situations). Who knows, perhaps he was tired of collecting those paltry checks from Disney and ready to bounce. He may be on to bigger & better things.

None of that changes the fact that he didn't get fired because he's Black. He got fired because he did something stupid.

2735069, More insults by you and less substance per usual.
Posted by allStah, Wed Apr-07-21 10:14 AM
You have this thing of supporting cheaters, players who follow racist leaders,
and disregarding situations of double standards.

And I’m sure your follow up will be no different ( insults and wrong).

2735075, You support white management, are anti labor, support racism
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Apr-07-21 11:10 AM
You actively searched for any possible angle to trash a Black woman, while giving every possible benefit of any doubt to the white aristocrats in that situation.

And when you suddenly do support the proletariat, it's in a predictably backward way.

That you're being called a moron and a buffoon and any other rough synonyms isn't an ad hominem. It's not a personal attack in leiu of addressing the argument. It's a summation of the content of the argument itself.

Your take on these sorts of situations are nearly always 180 degrees off base
2735177, You debate like a 5 yr old...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Fri Apr-09-21 12:53 AM
..and as soon as someone presents a challenge you can't meet, you immediately claim that they've somehow insulted you because you don't like the language (or punctuation LOL) they choose.

Like a child.

Grow up.

2734954, We're still in a pandemic. He's an idiot.
Posted by RandomFact, Mon Apr-05-21 07:55 PM
More than half the country is unvaccinated and still in some form of lockdown. Meanwhile this idiot is out there unnecessarily broadcasting himself in a questionable/wrong situation (again, pandemic) that he could've easily kept to himself and/or totally avoided by being a responsible adult.

Shit, I probably would've been fired for this shit. Difference is, this dude is presumably sitting on millions. He'll be fine and I gots no sympathy. Dumb move for a 43 YEAR OLD.

LA has just been through hell with covid. In part due to people doing stupid shit like this (he may have been vaccinated, but all them strippers were not). Fuck him.

2734956, Something must have sparked that, though.
Posted by Buck, Mon Apr-05-21 08:20 PM
He had to know he was risking his job, and since he's not stupid*, I can't imagine he didn't know exactly what he was doing. I'd bet there's more to this, behind the scenes.

*The COVID/vaccine thing is definitely stupid, or at least insensitive.
2734964, My friend said the same thing
Posted by allStah, Mon Apr-05-21 08:45 PM
But Paul is a carefree guy, always has been. I can see him saying, dude,
I’m just relaxing having fun.

He just seemed relaxed, and was having a guy’s night out playing poker.

But of course he is going to get dragged through the mud, and it will
be intensified because of his melanin. And he will never live it down.

Issue an apology, do some charity work, and endure a suspension.
That would have been sufficient.

2734985, it was really bizarre, in a brazen way
Posted by will_5198, Mon Apr-05-21 10:59 PM
definitely something more to this
2734969, RE: Paul Pierce was just released of his analyst position at ESPN.
Posted by jimaveli, Mon Apr-05-21 09:06 PM
Folks should be smarter. And really, if you’re an athlete who has already made millions, no need to press your luck when folks almost want an excuse to take you down a peg or 3000.

And really, dudes my age shouldn’t be documenting themselves doing random shit with skrippas. It doesn’t make sense and mostly bad things could happen. He’ll be fine I assume but I ain’t dying on the hill of defending this dude. It’s not worth it, he doesn’t need or deserve it, and another dude our age got choked to death in the street on camera with witnesses a year ago and it’s not a lock that the person who did it is going to do major jail time. And the dude who did the choking has huge factions of folks bending themselves into all sorts of shapes and crevices to defend it.

idk if ESPN needs to explain that they don't want their talent going live from a party of a few dozen people during a pandemic?

jobs.

Rachel Nichols is hella annoying.

Matt Barnes, Richard Jefferson and David Fizdale are pretty good.

P was mostly annoying anyway. Really won't be missed. He always came off as a grumpy old man even though he's not that old. Even though they always refer to him as "Hall of Famer" Paul Pierce he seems low-key bothered that he's not viewed on the same level as other players in his era.
2735156, they give Jason Windhort too much airtime too

2735016, All NBA sports coverage is terrible.
Posted by allStah, Tue Apr-06-21 01:12 PM
They go for entertainment over substance.

ESPN, TNT.....

Most of them don’t even know the players outside of the Top
20 players in the NBA.

ESPN’s college coverage is way more in depth. They have
more involvement from college coaches, etc

Their NBA coverage used to be similar, with former coaches like Doug
Collins, Mchale, etc being involved and providing good info. But now
they just want to be entertaining.

The best are Jim Jackson, Greg Anthony, Steve Smith, etc.

2735017, He didn’t get fired for the strippers, but the 350 live views.
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Tue Apr-06-21 01:14 PM

Seems like he didn’t care either so maybe it’s all mutual at the end of the day.

He was an absolute disaster as an analysts.

But then again, I guess he fit right in at ESPN then.

Lol

The 336 views is absolutely hilarious.

But it’s also hilarious that the reporting is making it seem like Paul did something stupid and ruined his life. Dude is worth like 70 mill. He doesn’t need that job.

Lol
