2732405, NBA All-Star Game starters
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Feb-18-21 07:21 PM
East:
Kyrie
Beal
Giannis
KD (captain)
Embiid

West:
Steph
Luka
Bron (captain)
Jokic
Kawhi

Thoughts?
2732411, Luka over Dame is questionable
Posted by DJR, Thu Feb-18-21 08:11 PM
If they ever put a games played requirement in, a few of these guys wouldn’t make it. But as it stands, there’s not much else to argue about based on what guys have done when they’ve played.
2732415, definitely. Dame got numbers and game winners.
Posted by Castro, Thu Feb-18-21 09:29 PM
2732418, its not questionable its flat out wrong
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Feb-18-21 10:45 PM
but its not like dame wont be an allstar so idc

2732421, For all star starter? Luka stats are better
Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-19-21 07:33 AM
All star starter never really been about team success. Its about popularity and stats. Lukas numbers are gaudy...especially once you tie in last season(which lets be real, all star starter aint just about what you did this year) him getting voted in as a starter is a no brainer

2732422, the NBA has been salivating to have Luka and Jokic on that poster...
Posted by ThaTruth, Fri Feb-19-21 07:55 AM
every since they starting hyping Luka for MVP before the season even started
2732426, No question on Luka
Posted by DJR, Fri Feb-19-21 10:16 AM
He got all of the hype this year and then some. And while his numbers are there and Dallas is playing better now, based on the insane hype he has slightly underdelivered.

Meanwhile Dame has the numbers and his team more than maxes out. CJ and Nurkic get hurt, and he somehow keeps them winning more than expected.

2732436, Pretty much...which.is why the voting numbers are expected.
Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-19-21 01:08 PM
2732414, sexton with more votes than ben
Posted by RandomFact, Thu Feb-18-21 08:56 PM
fans have no interest in watching a guard that can't shoot in 2021 apparently.

question. if philly had a true top-tier point guard (w/shot) would it be possible to play ben as a hybrid 4/5 with embiid? seems like that could work since one of the two can shoot.
2732450, Ben's defensive excellence says "yes"
Posted by Orbit_Established, Sat Feb-20-21 07:39 AM

I'd have a point guard, two shooters, Ben and Embiid.

2732766, Right, lol. Incredibly easy answer.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Feb-25-21 02:48 PM
"If I took the best team in the East and added a PG who could shoot, would the Sixers still work?"

Yes. Ben's whole strength is his versatility on both ends. He could play any position, really.
2732423, personally I think Kyrie over Harden was more questionable
Posted by ThaTruth, Fri Feb-19-21 07:57 AM
2732427, based on their play since the trade, I’d go Harden
Posted by DJR, Fri Feb-19-21 10:18 AM
Hard to vote him in when he pulled that shit on Houston this year though. He basically sabotaged himself/his team to force a trade, so he doesn’t deserve anything IMO.
2732429, evaluating traded players is tough
Posted by pretentious username, Fri Feb-19-21 11:03 AM
It’s safe to say he’s had a bigger impact since he joined, but by default you kinda have to go with the guy who has been there the whole season
2732431, Isn't this based purely on fan votes?
Posted by Numba_33, Fri Feb-19-21 11:19 AM
If so, what is there to debate?

There's more room to debate with the reserves IMO since that is based mainly on who the All Star coaches pick, which more than likely will result in snubs.

The only interesting aspect to the named teams is that LeBron was pretty vocal is not wanting to play in the All Star game, yet he's the captain of the West team. I have to think he's less incline to wanting to play with AD having to sit for the regular season.
2732445, actually its a split of fan / players / coaches vote
Posted by agentzero, Fri Feb-19-21 05:47 PM
2732643, Eastern Conference got it right.
Posted by allStah, Tue Feb-23-21 07:17 PM
Voted in Starters and selections....

But how does Booker not get in? Anthony Davis hasn’t played well this season
and is out injured and Rudy Gobert is good, but Booker has been excellent

I imagine Booker will be called upon as a replacement for AD.

2732645, Everyone needs to chill.
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Feb-23-21 07:50 PM
Booker is going to get in. AD is out and injured, and his team is top 2 in the West/they won a damn chip last year. It's a gesture if nothing else. Booker was honestly the move over CP3 but Booker's going to be an all star, obviously.
2732646, Vucevic or Sabonis?
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Feb-23-21 07:58 PM
2732647, I saw a stat where Vuc was the leader in FGM this season.
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Feb-23-21 08:05 PM
That's no longer the case. But he sits in 7th (11 behind first) and everyone in front of him is an all star - Bron, Giannis, Zach, Jokic, Beal, Curry. For what it's worth, the next 5 after him are also all stars - Doncic, Zion, Jaylen Brown, Dame, Randle.

Not saying it's the right call - but I get it at least.
2732668, I can see that, he always came across to me as a guy that gets numbers...
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Feb-24-21 09:10 AM
on a bad team
2732675, RE: Vucevic or Sabonis?
Posted by allStah, Wed Feb-24-21 11:25 AM
Vucevic is 24/11

Sabonis is 21/11

Right call. Sabonis is avg 2 more assists than Vucevic.

Vucevic is slightly better....so no snub either way.

Plus Vucevic is doing it playing with less talented players.
2732682, Sabonis' team is 4th, Vuc's team is 12th, that used to make a difference
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Feb-24-21 12:22 PM

Right. It does.

Vucevic is seeing double teams and zone walls, but still
getting numbers.

Sabonis has Brogdon, lamb, turner. Other players who can score, preventing double teams.

That matters to.

Indiana an still win without Sabonis.
2732693, PLEAS COPPED...

What pleas?

Vucevic lost Johnathan Isaac, Aaron Gordon, Fultz,
and Cole Anthony has been out for the past two weeks.

Fournier just got back.

His numbers are just more impressive considering the circumstances.

Sabonis wasnt snubbed.
2732687, This is an enduring myth that doesn't hold water
Posted by mrhood75, Wed Feb-24-21 01:08 PM
The idea that "teams record used to matter" is revisionist. Players from teams with lousy records have always been all-star reserves. Just looking at games from the '80s, players like Michael Ray Richardson, Bernard King, Reggie Theus, Larry Nance, Norm Nixon, and Marques Johnson all got named to all-stars teams during years when their teams weren't very good at all.
2732689, ^^ exactly.
Posted by Ryan M, Wed Feb-24-21 01:57 PM
People seem to gloss over this.

Like, it seems even the worst franchises have an all star, at worst, every 4 years or so.
2732694, previous all-stars have gotten the nod when their team had an off year...
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Feb-24-21 02:12 PM
but a first time guy off a losing team didn't happen before Tre Young last year but that was the fan vote
2732696, right its a factor but not an end all be all
Posted by Cenario, Wed Feb-24-21 02:17 PM
Especially when you have a voting systems. It matters to some more than others. Especially when you are talking about perennial all star types. Its probably a little more rare for a player to make his first all star game on a suck squad or have multiple all stars on a suck squad.
2732672, I'm shook over the fact that Mike Conley Jr has never been an all star
Posted by Marbles, Wed Feb-24-21 10:41 AM

It just feels like he would have been picked up as a reserve at sometime over his career.
2732673, let's see if my memory is correct
Posted by Numba_33, Wed Feb-24-21 11:00 AM
in terms of top tier Western Conference point guards that were active while Conley was in his prime in Memphis: Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams, Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, and Tony Parker.

Is that list accurate? I have a feeling Curry's prime started after Conley was in his prime in Memphis, but I'm too lazy to check.

Assuming that list is accurate, how many folks on that list are Conley better than? In addition, wasn't Conley also hurt a ton while he was in Memphis? That had to hurt his chances of being an All-Star.

I'd take Conley over Williams but I don't think the gap between them is that big. I just checked and Williams was a 3 time all star.

According to wiki, he only missed 36 games in his 12 years in Memphis.

That list of guys is definitely tough to break through but I'm still surprised that he hasn't at least made one all star team.
2732685, His best years he was 20 and 6...that only happened twice
Posted by Cenario, Wed Feb-24-21 12:54 PM
once Marc Gasol got the nod. the other time MEmphis sucked. That coupled with all the great guards in the West (especially PGs) I can't say he was ever "deserving". Solid career though probably one of the best to never make it.
2732695, RE: let's see if my memory is correct

you must be young, that was during the time when Deron BETTER was actually a conversation and that was in comparison to CP3 who was being hailed as the point-god of the entire leage

2732702, Deron was good...but deron better wasn't a real conversation lolol
Posted by Cenario, Wed Feb-24-21 03:58 PM
good times though.
2732703, Deron used to destroy CP3 head to head and his team was better
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Feb-24-21 04:03 PM
2732699, Conley over Williams?
Posted by allStah, Wed Feb-24-21 02:56 PM
There was a time when Williams was considered the best
PG in the league.

Conley was never at that point.
2732691, basically...

2732676, I hope he’s AD’s replacement
Posted by pretentious username, Wed Feb-24-21 11:26 AM
I know Booker deserves it more but he’ll get one in the future
2732690, it'll be D-Book

Not even the 3rd best player on his team.

Good player. That’s it. These sympathy selections need to stop.
2732708, Has a replacement player ever won All Star MVP?
Posted by Ryan M, Wed Feb-24-21 07:56 PM
If not, Book has a good shot at it imo.

2732770, Do you think he will get the minutes?
