Something so special about seeing him and John Thompson on the sidelines and now they're both gone.
2731137, Respect due.

...Coach Cal. Those were interesting times. Definitely one of the most "Philly" sports-related things that I experienced out there.

I swear there was just something special in the air when teams/coaches like that were facing off back then. There’s nothing like it.
2731146, We’re losing everybody man. RIP

One of my favorite college teams of all time was the 87/88 Temple squad.
Do ya googles if you don’t know young fellas.
2731151, RIP to an absolute legend

When Temple really had it going, that defense was so smothering.

Him and Keady are easily the best coaches that never made a final 4. Not a backhanded compliment at all because he had Temple in a bunch of elite 8s at the peak of the sport.
2731167, i remember watching UM beat his last truly elite squad

they got to the round of 8 a few more times after, but 93 was the last time they had <5 losses

it was like an excellent pro wrestling match that put Temple over to me even tho they lost, and made me an eddie jones fan. plus as a 10 year old i was fascinated by the fact that he honestly had an Owlish appearance.

Lmao, my brother and I used to say the same about the Owlish appearance.

Eddie Jones is still one of my favorite b-ball players ever.
2731155, Rest in peace.

2731163, RIP to a great coach and man. i went to Chaney-Hill bball camp

when i was in middle school. it was at cheyney state university.

John Chaney and Sonny Hill, both philly and hoop area legends. back when coach chaney was coach at Cheyney and just before he went to Temple.

he kept it real w/ us. told us if we did some dumb sht "you'll be out on cheyney road, with the bears" in that trademark raspy voice (it was dark af out there and i wasn't trying to be out there).

he turned temple into a powerhouse. but he turned a lot of young men into productive citizens.

peace & blessings,

x.

2731335, Was at Temple during the days of their last really good squad

Lynn Grier, Pepe Sanchez, Mark Karcher, Quincy Wadley...forgetting the Big Man. Lost to Mateen Cleaves' Michigan State team in the Elite 8 that eventually went on to win the chip. You couldn't mention Temple without Cheney or (at that time) Cosby...RIP Coach.
