Ex-Giant Chad Wheeler thought he choked girlfriend to death in ‘cold’ attack: cops
By Joshua Rhett MillerJanuary 27, 2021 | 1:14pm

Seahawks offensive lineman Chad Wheeler thought his girlfriend was dead after allegedly choking her unconscious — and was shocked she survived, a police report shows.

Wheeler, a backup offensive tackle who played for the Giants from 2017 to 2019, was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of felony domestic violence after his girlfriend told cops he assaulted her at an apartment in Kent, Washington, the Seattle Times reported.

Officers responded to the residence and found the woman locked in a bathroom after a “physical fight” with Wheeler. She told cops during a 911 call that she was being “killed” and had a dislocated arm. The Seahawks lineman had been taking medication for bipolar disorder, but recently stopped taking it, the police report shows.

Wheeler, who is listed at 6 feet 7 inches and 310 pounds, was surprised when his girlfriend regained consciousness after the alleged attack, according to the report.

“Wow you’re alive?” Wheeler asked her.

Photos purportedly of the battered woman circulating on Twitter showed her with a bloodied nose while at a hospital. Text messages allegedly sent by her indicated how “cold” Wheeler was during the alleged attack.

“He thought I was dead on my bed and continued to eat dinner,” the message read. “When I ran into the bathroom, he said, ‘Wow, you’re still alive’ while sipping on a smoothie.”

The assault took place after Wheeler asked his girlfriend to bow to him, the police report indicates.

In a statement Wednesday, the Seahawks strongly condemned the alleged assault.

“The Seahawks are saddened by the details emerging against Chad Wheeler and strongly condemn this act of domestic violence. Our thoughts and support are with the victim,” the statement read.

“Chad is a free agent and no longer with the team,” it added.

The Seattle team also encouraged Wheeler to “get the help he needs” and offered details for the National Domestic Violence hotline and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline hotline.

Wheeler was released from the King County Jail on Tuesday after posting $400,000 bond, online records show.

He’s due back in court Wednesday for a probable cause hearing. A judge ordered Wheeler not to contact the victim or to possess weapons during a hearing Monday, the Seattle Times reported.

In 2015, Wheeler was detained by Los Angeles police while a student-athlete at USC, where he was punching walls and windows while under the influence. He was not arrested, but taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Wheeler played in five games for the Seahawks last season and is now a restricted free agent.
2731029, interesting no pic on ESPN

2731030, one of the more terrifying and sickening DV reports I've seen
Posted by GOMEZ, Wed Jan-27-21 06:45 PM
I don't know how you get bail after that, tbh.

The pics of the victim that have circulated are heartbreaking man. Glad she was strong and survived.
2731031, go directly to jail, never play another down in the NFL

.
2731036, No. He has a severe chemical imbalance
Posted by allStah, Wed Jan-27-21 09:20 PM
He needs immediate psychiatric attention, and it needs to be 24/7 at this point.
Also, he should never be allowed to play football. The violent contact adds even
more injury to the brain.

The NFL should be investigated for this. How is a man with a severe mental disorder,
who is on medication, allowed to play football?

2731043, He deserves compassion, but not until the victim has been shown hers

Its sad that he has a very challenging mental health condition, but that is no excuse for his behavior. We live in a civil world and we are responsible for our actions. Are there reasons for our behavior, yes. But a mental health condition should never be an excuse for bad or toxic behavior.

He should never play again in the NFL. Are there cases where the man is redeemable and could play by showing contrition and transformation, yes. This situation with Wheeler is not one of those.
2731052, You can’t take responsibility for your actions if you’re

not mentally aware of your actions. And just because we live in a civilized world,
does not mean that all people are mentally civilized.

This guy has been a mental case since being in college, and needs to be under
constant psychiatric care.

“In 2015, Wheeler was detained by Los Angeles police while a student-athlete at USC, where he was punching walls and windows while under the influence. He was not arrested, but taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation”

This is a major institutional error, where he was allowed to slip through the cracks because he knew how to play football.

He will never know better or comprehend his violent actions, because CLEARLY he
doesn’t have all of his mental senses intact.

This guy strangled his girlfriend until he thought she was dead, and then sat down and
ate dinner. She regained consciousness, and he was like what are you still doing alive?
Plus he did it while “off of his medication.”

You can look at his photo and tell that he is not mental stable

So the question I would ask his girlfriend : You know this guy is semi-insane.
He has a history of being being semi-insane. So why are you with him, and since he
was off his medication, how did he get off his medication?

And he was playing football?

I’m Surprised this didn’t happen sooner.

I’m not saying this is the case. But there have been several situations of people
taking advantage of mentally ill people for financial reasons. A mentally ill person rarely gets rights, and are often manipulated by friends, families, institutions and other entities.

We already see that he was being used by USC and the Seattle Seahawks, who
clearly did not care about this man’s well being. He is a nutcase, but damn he can play football..smh

2731066, Do you think race had anything to do with why he was still playing?

2731079, Both ethnicities get taken advantage off. But it is a double
Posted by allStah, Thu Jan-28-21 10:49 AM
standard when it leads to something violent for AA. It gets swept
under the rug and doesn’t get covered for White Americans, and
black Americans get labeled as criminals.

Go look at those Antonio Brown posts. I was the only one saying that
brown has a mental issue and needs help. Everyone else was like
he is a disgrace, and this and that.

2731126, HE. STOPPED. TAKING. HIS. MEDS.

2731127, Right? This dude getting zero sympathy from me
Posted by GOMEZ, Fri Jan-29-21 01:44 PM
2731133, It’s not about sympathy or empathy
Posted by allStah, Fri Jan-29-21 02:14 PM
It’s about understanding how extreme and dangerous mental conditions can be
if not properly or correctly treated.

This guy needs to be under the watch and care of a doctor or a mental facility.

Read his story....A lot of shit fell through the cracks.
2731129, Which is why he needs 24/7 mental health care
Posted by allStah, Fri Jan-29-21 01:51 PM
to ensure that he takes his Medication daily and properly.

The situation need further investigation. Was his girlfriend assisting him with that?
For how long did she know he was off his meds? Did she report that to his doctors ,to his family?

I am not blaming her at all. However, when you chose to live and be with someone
who requires psychiatric treatment, you’re going to automatically be part of the caregiving. There are going to be episodes and situations that come with that.

Where is his family? Where are his friends? It is pretty obvious that his mental chemical imbalance is quite extreme, where he becomes violent and abusive to others and himself if he doesn’t take his medication.

It appears that medication was just thrown at this guy to keep him sane enough to play football. This guy needs professional medical help, and should have never been allowed
to play football.

You see he was immediately released by Seattle...but are they going to help this man,
are they going help her?
2731071, no traction at all to this shit
Posted by Amritsar, Thu Jan-28-21 09:23 AM
at least not yet
2731072, ESPN don't really cover the DV hard like they used to
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jan-28-21 09:32 AM
cause Rog was giving them shit MNF games.

shit the only reason you see so much coverage about the black coaching hires rn is because it's a Rog initiative
2731081, A white man beating a black woman to near death nobody cares...
Posted by ThaTruth, Thu Jan-28-21 12:05 PM
they had Kareem Hunt on tv 24/7
2731085, Haven’t heard a peep. Ridiculous
Posted by Beezo, Thu Jan-28-21 01:41 PM
2731087, It definitely needs to be reported universally. That’s fact.
Posted by allStah, Thu Jan-28-21 02:07 PM
And it needs to be reported fairly for both ethnicities.

They painted Antonio Brown all types of shit for his mental issues,
and his domestic issue was nowhere on this level.

Football players in general, due to the nature of their profession, need special attention
in my book.
2731174, and they acted like Hunt curb stomped ole girl
Posted by legsdiamond, Sat Jan-30-21 10:34 AM
and before someone tries it, I’m not defending Hunt.
2731271, I read a lot of players are upset it's not getting coverage
Posted by The Real, Sun Jan-31-21 06:14 PM
And they are noting the double standard.
