2730187, Knicks by 30 in Boston.
Posted by Castro, Mon Jan-18-21 12:24 AM
Toppin is back, IQ cooking, Jules doin his all star thing, all I can hope is that RJ and Efrid put up a 1000 shots a day in a gym.
2730197, Manny looking like the steal of the draft.

2730193, 6ers/OKC postponed
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jan-18-21 09:03 AM
Kinda f'd up my day TBH

...aren't they going to run into scheduling issues that push the season anyway...

really think they f'd up by forcing the start date

especially considering there's a vaccine

Silver f'n up.

KPJ on the trade/chop block because of an outburst over his locker getting moved.

that dude is an X-Factor.

Guess it's the lottery for the Cavs this season. Goddamn it. best case scenario if he's gone is we watch him be good on some other team, just like.... Danny Green, Seth Curry, Joe Harris, etc.

2730201, me on Kevin Porter Jr. in the 2019 Justivity post:

"... I mean, maybe if you're *really* confident in your development team, you take the flier, because there's talent there. But he SCREAMS head case, and I'd rather let someone else be a genius who makes him a star than I would be the guy who has to pop four Advil a day because I have to deal with Kevin Porter drama on the regular."
2730211, Another one. Defense doing it. If we ever learn how to shoot 3's.....

lol
2730214, Great game. Middleton winning shot attempt rolls out.
Posted by allStah, Mon Jan-18-21 10:07 PM
What a game. The difference were the role players. Lopez taking too many threes even
when the bucks were up. That shit has to stop.

Great defense by Middleton on KD to get the strip, just couldn’t knock down the game winner.

Holiday on Kyrie
Middleton on Harden
Giannis on KD

Tons of battles will come from this.

Great game by both squads. 10 lead changes.

Posted by allStah, Tue Jan-19-21 12:51 AM
a 20 point lead to the Warriors at home.

That squad is mighty suspect.

Dennis shouldn’t be the main ball handler, too loosey goosey at times. He wasn’t the main handler at OKC, Paul and Shai were.
2730247, Yes Game 15 of the regular season = blowing 3-1 with 20 pt leads in the offs
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Jan-19-21 01:35 PM
Bravo as usual, all stah
2730274, So hard for you to accept a L
Posted by allStah, Wed Jan-20-21 01:21 AM
And you talking about a bubble compared to a REAL season.
This is a real season here, partner.

How are those new pieces working out for you? lol.

I’m sorry , fam , but being up by 20 at home against a rebuilding team, with all
your stars healthy , is a massive L.

2730297, I'm not reading any of that.
Posted by Ryan M, Wed Jan-20-21 03:13 PM

a full ass db backpedal 3 in the face of a fully extended 7 footer.

that shit was crazy.

and he had a bad game.

but the supporting cast balled out. (i love paschall). and welcome KO JR! his offense caught up w/ his defense.

and wiggins is quietly giving you great D || and around 18pts a game.

if those two can stay reasonably good from the 3pt line, this team is gonna get a lot better pretty quickly.

the switch to give them to oubre to lead instead of wiggins really worked out. they were tough defensively, and scrappy as hell on O. and paschall is a bucket.

2730237, Andrew Wiggins has turned into a defensive monster.
Posted by allStah, Tue Jan-19-21 11:02 AM
It’s crazy. He is guarding the opposite team’s best player in every game.

He held Bron to 6-16 shooting.

Most improved and defensive player of year so far for me....

Opponents are shooting -6.7% worse when defended by Wiggins this season.

2730307, goddamn sexton is a lot better now

opposing teams are going to be shooting 48% FG all season at this rate. get jeff bzdelik on the phone!
2730323, That is why losing Allen and Prince is devastating.
Posted by Castro, Wed Jan-20-21 10:05 PM
They were the best on the defensive end.

until kyrie gets hurt.
2730311, defensively idk how you come up w/ something decent on that end
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Jan-20-21 09:51 PM
not great, just decent. thats all they really need to be on that side of the ball. but man they need more help than the buyout market can provide
2730318, yeah people better not put them in the same sentence as the lakers.
Posted by Reeq, Wed Jan-20-21 10:00 PM
they aint anywhere close to being a complete team.
2730310, Brooklyn won’t even get to the ECF
Posted by allStah, Wed Jan-20-21 09:50 PM
Zero defense. 2 OTs against the Cavs only to get murked

They gave all their players to the Cavs.

Kyrie played to 2 OT. And he only had 2 rebounds and 2 assists

Focused on scoring too much

Harden with a triple double....doing all the dirty work.
2730317, aint no way harden is gonna be cool with just being 3rd highest scorer
Posted by Reeq, Wed Jan-20-21 09:57 PM
and the offensive glue guy.

and you know kyrie gonna trip when they come to him and tell him he needs to share the ball more and let harden control things.
2730324, Yeah man
Posted by allStah, Wed Jan-20-21 10:07 PM
I used to really dislike harden. But that dude is really an all around player.
The ability is there.

But yeah. Harden only had like 8 shots going into OT. They should have traded Kyrie.
2730326, They scored 96 by themselves and the squad still lost
Posted by Castro, Wed Jan-20-21 10:13 PM
Bench only gave them 10 points because they traded away their depth.

Harden still had a triple double though.....he was mad efficient.

KD is going to have to be the one to decide who controls the ball.
2730356, that Dinwiddie injury was a hurt piece, too...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jan-21-21 11:32 AM
although...if he hadn't been injured, he might have gotten dealt.

Posted by allStah, Wed Jan-20-21 11:17 PM
You remember Houston was willing to trade Capela for Hayward,
but Danny Ainge said his big 4 were untouchable?

Hayward walks, and Boston is still weak as hell in the middle, while Capela is eating
cats on the boards. Dude had close to 30 rebounds for the Hawks.

Sixers killed the Celtics inside.

2730358, Marcus Smart complaining about Embiid flopping...LOL&FOH
Posted by bentagain, Thu Jan-21-21 11:38 AM
This dude goes flying across the court multiple times a game from incidental minimal contact

...and he’s trying to call out Embiid...

<insert gas face>

Jo does use the rip through, but that’s part of the game now

One my least favorite things about nba officiating is how they give smaller players a lot of calls for light work

Big guys get hacked and errybody expects them to just play on

Jo looking like the MVP, so I know why he’s mad...but flopping...you, Marcus Smart are complaining about flopping...SMH
2730333, Dubs looking REAL good.

Wiseman getting oops whole damn game, Steph clowning beyond the arc and at the rim...and everybody else hitting most of the shots they are supposed to hit.

Kerr out here coaching too
2730344, RE: nice adjustment to have Oubre run with the bench squad
Posted by Castro, Thu Jan-21-21 07:48 AM
Yup, coaching everybody up, which means Steph plays fewer minutes. Only played 31 last night. If they consistently can get wins like this, everyone is fresh in the spring.

Then you throw in a legit 7 foot uber athletic rim runner with touch out to the three point line. All he needs is a couple of summers with The Dream during the offseason- then surround him with shooters and it will be wrap.

Steph could end up with 5 rings.
2730354, Yep we are Reloading

They got Minnys 1st round pick next yr in a loaded
2021 Draft Class too.

As it stands Minny will definitely be handing over a top 10 pick,
hopefully Kat gets well and they win some games so they dont end up
Top 3
2730407, Getting back Draymond was huge for the team
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Jan-21-21 06:39 PM
He's essential to Paschall and Wiseman's development. Paschall is key coming off the bench, and Draymond is doing a great job mentoring him.

Not to mention is absolutely the floor general out there, especially on D. There's an IG video out there breaking down he helped win them the Toronto game on the last possession by doing things that would never show up on any stat sheet.
2730411, I saw that on Twitter...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jan-21-21 07:08 PM
he literally called the play and told everyone where to go.
2730417, it's wild watching his development and progression. it's like he telling
Posted by poetx, Thu Jan-21-21 07:38 PM
the young bols what to do with *their* athleticism.

there was a freeze frame of wiseman dunking on that putback. his WAIST was at lamarcus aldriges HEAD. that's crazy. meanhwile, dray out there doing his thing with majic johnson level hops and old man tricks. (every now and then the slip screen for a dunk, or faking the handoff to steph, and driving through the lane by his lonesome as teams be tripping on themselves to double up ya boy).

wiggins quietly playing with a big ass chip on his shoulder, giving people work off the dribble and clamping some really high level scorers.

once they get the patience to realize that if steph give the ball up, he coming off 3 or 4 screens and cuts and eventually coming back around somebody to get off a trey or shot hesi and end up w/ an uncontested floater.

getting draymond back was key and they've shown a lot of growth over the last couple games.

2730420, I'm loving Wiseman so far. We haven't had an athletic, skilled center...
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Jan-21-21 08:17 PM
...since, well, Robert Parish, I guess. And no one even remember that he was drafted by the Warriors. I guess we played Webber at center, but that's part of the reason everything fell apart with that team. So, really, probably not since Wilt Chamberlain. Getting a big man like that with solid upside is something I'm completely unfamiliar with.
2730414, wiseman figuring out how to play w/ steph and dray. (and them figuring
Posted by poetx, Thu Jan-21-21 07:31 PM
out how to play w/ him).

oubre relaxing. his last two games 3 pt % got to be pretty decent. wiggins calmly dropping 18 per night.

paschall is a reliable 15 - 18 pts a night.

bench unit is ferocious on d. teams gonna have to keep one of their starters rocking or get clamped up.

and the new guys + young guys steady getting coached up and building confidence.

good shit all around.

Posted by Numba_33, Thu Jan-21-21 09:32 AM
Not just one or two individuals on the team.

Should be interesting to see if Steve Nash is the right hire as a head coach, given that he was pretty atrocious on the defensive end as a player.
2730349, Nash hired Antoni as his top assistant, that team will not focus on D

2730359, Wiseman had a shit game vs. LA. It was great seeing vets hype him up
Posted by GOMEZ, Thu Jan-21-21 11:39 AM
and get him easy buckets yesterday. Draymond choosing to go the route of mentor vs. asshole vet could be huge. Wiseman is really a baby out there, with no real college experience and barely any training camp, and you can see him learning lessons in real time.

As a fan, it's really exciting to see an infusion of young talent.
2730362, damn...next 3 Grizz games, postponed....

there have been a lot of postponed games, and quite a few games that are like 30 point blowouts by halftime. I still appreciate it, but it's a very weird year.

>Especially ThaTruth

sure they might make the playoffs but as far as being a contender its a wrap. I hear all this Warrior fans crying and pontificating about if and when Klay comes back, if Klay was there THIS season 100% they still wouldn't be able to turn back the clock to 5 years ago like people think they would. 31y/o Andre Iguodala is not walking through that door. 29y/o Shaun Livingston is not walking through that door. Andrew Bogut is not walking through that door. Aside from the "stars" those guys were the foundation of the team that allowed the stars to do what they did.
2730396, As a warriors fan, I'm enjoying the new version of the team
Posted by GOMEZ, Thu Jan-21-21 05:16 PM
a lot of us have been down for our squad since way before they were perennial title contenders and probably talked the same amount of shit about the We Believe era dubs as we do now. They're underdogs this year for sure, but it's kind of fun to follow a squad in challenger mode that's trying to come up. Watching Steph and Draymond adapt to a group of athletic youngsters vs. being surrounded by all stars and HOFers is interesting and exciting.
2730424, Their stars were out of the world, but their strength was their depth

Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jan-21-21 04:51 PM
when he gave himself a nickname. I remember the press conference when reporters mentioned it to Melo. He couldn't keep himself from laughing...and that was his teammate. Paul a bad MFer, though. He just hasn't shown up big in the post-season. He's going to have to, at some point.
2730416, Lol, recently read “3 Ring Circus”
Posted by DJR, Thu Jan-21-21 07:36 PM
about the 96-04 Lakers. Talked about how after making the all star team Cedric Ceballos nicknamed himself “chise”. As in “franchise”. The references to it had me cracking up. He’s referring to himself in the 3rd person by his self appointed nickname. Teammates thinking he’s weird as shit and avoiding and ignoring him, lol.

That Playoff P stuff reminds me of that.
2730418, ha, I read that too...Pearlman gets some great info...

2730483, To both of you- did you catch strong anti-Kobe bias vibes?
Posted by Cold Truth, Fri Jan-22-21 03:18 PM
Because, to me, that did not come across as a remotely balanced perspective.

He'd lightly touch on Kobe's perspective, while leaning in heavily on the perspectives of Shaq and Phil.

I also thought he disproportionately favored coaches in negative interactions with players. I like the book because I'm a junkie for these.

I got both Phil's books, Kobe's book (Showboat is very well done), Jackie "The Team Owns You" McMullen's Dream Team book, Showtime, When The Game Was Ours, and I'm still sitting on books from LO, Iggy and George.

In none of those, can I recall such one-sided perspective leaning toward or against a particular player, apart from Shaq's, which I absolutely understand, and Phil's, which I absolutely understand, though I think he showed that he fucked up by favoring Shaq so heavily.

Pearlman seemed to start from a standpoint of a dislike for Kobe, and never really let up.
2730501, yes, 100% and I would have chalked it up to...

maybe me being a little sensitive, because Kobe had passed...but, Pearlman was on LeBatard and you could hear the same slant, just in him talking about Kobe and the book. I don't know enough about the guy, to nail him down as a Kobe hater...but it certainly comes off that way.
2730512, Yes, and even praise of his game felt begrudging
Posted by DJR, Fri Jan-22-21 11:05 PM
Kobe became a top 3 player in that time period. We get it, he shoots a lot but talk about something else.

Another thing I thought was off was multiple times he called Robert Horry like one of the best shooters in the league or something.
2730393, thats cool. we know what it is when the playoffs come around.

That's never the problem. It's his consistency in the playoffs and in big moments.

I'm not saying they can't win it this year - they're probably being underrated because of the flame out - but those nicknames are well-earned.

2730479, LOL...it was really bad, last night man...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Jan-22-21 02:42 PM
although, I admittedly haven't watched a ton of games. I don't usually get into full psycho mode NBA dude, until football is over. Plus the Thunder don't get many, if any national games. Chris would start a whole though and Marv would be like "LEBRON KNEW IT WAS GOOD", LMAO. Something similar happened a few weeks ago when Tony Romo had to do a game at home, from Dallas because he tested positive for Covid. He and Jim Nantz must have worked on their shit, though...cuz it was 10 times as smooth as last night.
2730486, it's usually pretty bad but the setup for the announcers isn't great
Posted by bearfield, Fri Jan-22-21 03:38 PM
there is obviously some delay in the feed that the announcers are viewing and ISP speed/quality discrepancies tend to result in the announcers being out of sync from the broadcast and each other by a second or two. 21 year old twitch streamers and esports broadcasters can adjust to this kind of thing so the presentation is smooth but nba A/V professionals are struggling with it. maybe it's something to do with the broadcast to TV

and it's not relegated to marv and chris. brian anderson and grant hill constantly step on each other due to the sync/telecommuting issues. kevin harlan and reggie miller do it too but less so since they have good chemistry. it seems like the local feeds are less out of sync but it's a mixed bag

it's an imperfect solution to a tough problem and it makes you appreciate how much chemistry matters in announcer teams and how being physically present makes all the difference in a broadcast
2730431, MIL continues to be fake good
Posted by bearfield, Thu Jan-21-21 10:16 PM
giannis is still a woeful decision maker in the clutch and can't hit FTs. that leaves the onus on holiday and middleton to seal or engineer a win in the final moments. i can think of several players that i want handling the ball in crunch time and any one of MIL's "big" 3 are at best at the bottom of that list. i think this is mostly a team composition issue but their coach isn't helping solve this problem
2730435, It’s mostly the coach.
Posted by allStah, Thu Jan-21-21 10:54 PM
They have no offensive scheme, and are terrible at defending the 3. They do
a great job in the paint. Davis didn’t really get off. But they ignore guarding the 3 point line. It’s hideous.

No way should Giannis be the first option in crunch time. Middleton is a 90/40/50
guy. He is the most efficient player on the team, but he is being used as a ball handler
to set up Giannis? Makes zero sense.

Then you got Brook Lopez taking dumb 3 point shots. It’s ridiculous. He has zero paint moves. Bobby Portis should be starting with his ability to play inside and out. Lopez gives them nothing inside. And Divincenzo is too undersized to play the 2. If his shots
aren’t falling, he offers nothing.

Plus it doesn’t help that there isn’t any motion with the offense. That’s on the coach.
Honestly, they need to bring someone else in, because Giannis hasn’t fully developed.
He is still the same Giannis, with zero offensive skillset.

Where are the post moves? Where is the step back? Where is the fade away?
You’re not winning a championship with just a eurostep in the paint.

Him and Ben Simmons are so frustrating to watch at times. But the sixers got some
serious ballers in Milton, Embid, Harris, Maxey, so they don’t need Simmons for
offense. Simmons can just set them up.

2730446, The Champs just busted that ass

2730439, they base their offense around a guy who still doesnt know
Posted by Reeq, Fri Jan-22-21 12:37 AM
how to pass out of double teams or the d collapsing on him.

at this point its not even about skill set. its about basic game iq.

like how do you still have no feel for where your teammates are supposed to be open based on where the help/rotations are coming from?

dude is just completely unprepared to make a decision with the ball once he realizes he cant reach the rim far too many times.

its one thing if hes hitting his shooters and they arent making their shots. but dude is fucking falling sideways, passing into defenders arms, etc because he has no idea where to go with the ball if he doesnt have an easy path to the cup.

you cant even have other players flash to the ball, cut to the rim, etc because he isnt gonna react fast enough to hit them anyway.

and this isnt some novelty/gimmick defensive adjustment hatched in the middle of a series that hes facing. its literally the same scheme everyone throws on him at this point.

are the bucks not practicing this shit or is it just not getting through to him?
2730442, I really dislike his game, really.

2730444, If they actually called all his charges he’d foul out by the 2nd Q

Dildo Baggins Jr. he is, I suppose
2730448, So the 6ers had to play a week's worth of games with only 7 players
Posted by bentagain, Fri Jan-22-21 09:17 AM
...they dressed Mike Scott to reach the minimum 8, but he didn't play due to a knee injury...

But MEM and WAS getting a week of games postponed

WTF.

I was good with it if they were going to hold errybody to the same standard

I figured we'd see other teams in the same situation at some point in the season and the W/Ls would even

But we dropped 3 games because we were kept on schedule with 7 players

and other teams are getting to reschedule

Obviously the NBA had no idea WTF they're doing.
2730452, The back half of the season should be very interesting.
Posted by Numba_33, Fri Jan-22-21 09:57 AM
It was smart on the league's part to leave the schedule unannounced since they probably saw some of the cancelled game occurring as they are now.

If games will have to be made up, teams that currently have to deal with COVID are gonna be hit hard since I'm assuming they'll have to play back-to-back games moreso than other teams that haven't had to cancel games. Wonder if any playoff bound teams will get hit hard in that sense.

2730554, I agree 100% about that

I actually dread the Cavs facing the Knicks this year.

Immanuel Quickley was a huge get. Randle actually has been handling things there. Him and the guards are a pain in the ass. Mitchell Robinson is an anchor.

Dare I say it, the Knicks are Knicking it up
2730474, Nothing to see here.

Just the Lakers sitting atop the league after winning a title 103 days ago.

Just Lebron being the best player in the league at age 36 with about 3 years of extra mileage from deep playoff runs.

Just KCP turning into the best 3 and D guy playing this year.

Just the usuals being sad and mad.

2. The clippers are 11-4, and they beat y’all this season.

Nice try, Kowalski. But continue with the delusion and arrogance.

Including Sexton and Garland for a stretch. It'll move back to the middle of the pack soon.

Their D is right behind the Lakers, that's why they win.
2730511, yep. CLE D is legit and can get stops. BKN can't stop anything
Posted by bearfield, Fri Jan-22-21 11:03 PM
folks literally walking to the bucket and into open Js on the nets. and if BKN does happen to be in good defensive position they just foul and grant easy FTs. maybe BKN can rent a paint protector and perimeter defender on expiring contracts
2730523, Nash and Antoni are trying to do an East coast version of SSOL...
Posted by ThaTruth, Sat Jan-23-21 09:49 AM
so they not going to magically start playing D, they’re going to just try to run you out of the gym. Some nights they are going to get ran out of the gym.
2730532, Yeah, when the Nets are down Durant, that'll happen.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Jan-23-21 11:27 AM
He's by miles the best defender of the starting 5, and this Big 3 needs two of its three guys to go off to be the favorites to win, realistically, because the bench just hasn't shown that they'll give much yet. Kyrie went off, Harden didn't, and Durant sat? Yeah, that Nets situation will probably lose to most teams.
2730550, Harden is the one I think that will need to adjust the most
Posted by Dr Claw, Sat Jan-23-21 10:32 PM
because out of the 3 he is by far the best playmaker. But he can also fall back on straight up scoring if they're down. He didn't do it in the last game but he was doing it the first time around.

Kyrie as off-ball guard is actually going to be an asset to the team.
2730514, The Bulls are kinda good. Zach + Coby looking like a legit backcourt

Ball movement and stuff.

top-10 offense so far after being ranked *checks notes* 29th last year with the SAME DAMN TEAM.

defense needs improvement but some of that has to do with playing at a really high pace. i have faith in billy to find more of a balance as the season goes on. it's still early.

yay for proper coaching!

I do. I know who they were, they can’t hide.

Anyway, lol. Yeah, coaching fucking matters. And Billy is a really good one, when they had one of the worst in recent memory last year. I wish I’d hammered the preseason win-total over for the Bulls on the strength of him and him alone.
2730536, I believe the main culprit commented on this post.
Posted by RandomFact, Sat Jan-23-21 02:45 PM
But yeah, it’s clear that everyone was correct when they called Boylen a horrible coach. It’s night and day between Boylen and Billy. Zach looking like a borderline franchise player. Shit, everyone looks so much better.
2730517, the Bulls matchup is the one (other than GSW) I'm waiting for.

I hopped on that -9.5 with the quickness. I hate lakers with everything, but betting
ain’t about liking a team.

People really thought my Bulls were going to make this a game because the
last game was close. I’m like AD didn’t play in the last game.

Plus Carter and Porter are out? The line should have been -20!

I don’t think any player on this team is untouchable. We are putting forth an effort,
and players are buying in. But we have to move quite a few players and hit the draft hard.
