I can imagine him being content with coaching on the national level.

Koeman had some success as a club manager prior to being a national coach. His stint at Southampton was impressive, so he was considered to be an excellent coach. When
you have that type of resume, you’re not going to be satisfied with coaching on a smaller level. That’s why he took the Barcelona position.

Similarly to Koeman, Martinez enjoyed success in the premier league, especially with Wigan. Plus he is only 48 years old. Coaches like that are in stationary mode until a top
club opportunity comes along.
