2728966, 2020 NFL Redzone: Week 17...Who’s Playing???
Posted by Dstl1, Sat Jan-02-21 02:25 PM
As the NFL regular season limps to a close...lots of playoff implications abound.
Rams and Cardinals in a win and you’re in. Goff possibly out, but Kyler possibly out. Rams can still lose and get in, if Chicago loses. Bears play the Packers...who clinch home field, throughout, with a win. Saints and Seahawks also vying for NFC home field. Titans and Colts are both still playing for the division title. Browns have a crazy, convoluted way to get in, if they lose...but, really they just need to beat Pittsburgh. Miami needs a win and Buffalo doesn’t have anything to play for, really. None of that even takes COVID into consideration. Ryan Fitzpatrick will not be available. New Orleans will not have 4 of their running backs, including Alvin Kamara, due to Kamara testing positive. Browns are minus 4 players and have closed their facilities. Going to be an interesting day of football.
2728972, Packers are without their best offensive linemen
Posted by allStah, Sat Jan-02-21 03:34 PM
That’s a good situation for the bears. Bears can score , and the packers’ defense is not
solid.

We just have to be on our best defensive game. Keep the packers under 30.

Bears: 31-24

Mix in about 10 teams that will almost certainly have a new coach and effort has already been lacking, and yeah...we’re looking at a shitshow on a lot of these games. I expect to peek in here and there today instead of doing my low end assistant coach/try to see some of everything shit that I’m usually on. I’m expecting early season nba effort in some of these games. But maybe some dudes are close to incentives, playing for something, and/or knowing they’re about to retire or reup. Maybe they prove me wrong!

Stat watch: If the Texans have been bitches for most of the season, I hope they lay they asses down one more time so that Henry can hit 2000. He’s played well above anything I ever expected from him for years and now I really appreciate what a pain it must be to tackle this colossal human 2/3 through the season when you’re half-healthy, more than halfway tired, and/or playing for a coach you hate.

he missed SO many throws today. He threw a nice ball to, I think, Washington...the other TD was Claypool just muscling the defender. So many plays they could have extended driver or just did normal pickups and he missed...bad.

It’s crazy how fast stuff can get out of hand when one team clearly cares more than the other one. The nfl tried to fix this with the divisional games at the end of the year but sometimes it’s not enough.

Bills didn’t have much to play for and the Dolphins were fighting for a playoff spot. Even the Bills backups were playing like the last preseason game and fighting for a roster spot.

and pulled that game out of their asses anyway. HUGE miss on that 2PT attempt.

I knew Mason Poodolph was just gonna Boody-pass and hand off his way down the field. He actually was better off than Ben probably would have been for as much as his long passes ended up being on target after being hit.

It's REAP next week but fuggit. THE BEES THAT'S ORANGE ARE PLAYOFF BOUND, DESPITE IT ALL.

I want to believe that Pittsburgh can turn it on and keep their grip on Cleveland and Cincy.

But the steelers are hella hurt right now and I don’t trust their reduced defense right now at all. And I’m not sure they can do anything about Chubb. Should be fun as long as Cleveland shows up.
2729060, Bees defense is pure ASS and IMO....
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-03-21 04:31 PM
...Poodolph is quicker off the break than Ben is now. They also go into "Baltimore Mode" with Dobbs, which the Browns defend poorly.

Refs still not calling holds on Myles Garrett.

Offensively, the Browns did absolutely no screens or short passes in general and stuck with slowly developing plays for the most part. They got through it. Had a hard time running Chubb after that monster run early in the first half.

I dunno if it was a case of them saving the good shit for the playoffs but the combo of that offense + the decimated, and bullshit Browns defense.... man.

2729061, CLE LBs and corners so bad, man...
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Jan-03-21 04:35 PM
Ben is whatever, but he’s an actual qb. You right about their reduced defense. Losing Bush is a fuckin kick in the dick. Losing Dupree, too...c’mon!! They’re so much less potent now, without the things that those two could do. The ground they could cover.
2729067, Dogg, they were starting Pendejo before protocols... LOL

2729057, About Andy Dalton
Posted by jimaveli, Sun Jan-03-21 04:23 PM
He’s one of these dudes that folks want to prop up from time to time. He can look the part a few games at a time too. I get it.

BUT

That SOB is damn near a lock to screw pooch when you need him most. He’s like a slightly irregular Kirk Cousins.

The pick he threw at the end today would make Sam Darnold blush. C’mon dude.

2729065, on Dallas: they did the best they could
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jan-03-21 05:03 PM
and yes, Dalton basically is late-career Eli with red hair, but they had a chance.

I liked the Giants in that line up. The Eagles are about to go through a real firesale, starting with rumors that Wentz really wants out, ala the Falcons post-Vick.

and they need to.

The team I am not looking forward to is the Giants.
Say what you will about Danny but I get "Even More Mobile Eli" vibes from that dude and that's not a good thing to have to deal with 2x a year.

Followed by WFT. They get a stable QB and it's going to be sad hours for the rest of the NFC East. I think even Sam Darnold could get going over there tbh.

2729069, Focking Cole Kmet ...fumbled again.
Posted by allStah, Sun Jan-03-21 06:00 PM
That was the big mistake.

Other than that, I like the bears’ methodical approach. Control clock, moving the ball, getting in the red zone. Not trying to get into a huge scoring battle. Keep it close.

That defense is going to have to make a big stop. Rodgers is too focking good to put a LB on one of their sprinters.

Protect the ball and stick to the strategy.

It wasn't a stout performance, but they got the job done.

11-5 is an improvement, but that kind of effort won't be enough to contend for a championship.

But what they didn’t see: low QB IQ

He will play an almost perfect game, but then have that boneheaded costly interception.
He is Matt Ryan’s offspring, but a tad bit dumber.

It’s frustrating because he threw a bomb to Mooney...You see shit like that
And fall in love with the kid. But then he will roll out with all the time in the world and throw the ball directly to the defender.

Our defense has turned into bengals...seriously.

Fock it. We are in the playoffs. Time to interrupt some shit.

you know what it is. but i am not mad.

pederson know what it is. he's supposedly not on the hotseat this year, but he'll damn sure be on it next year. i'd high key wanna be on the hotseat picking 6th than 10th. but mostly i'd rather be picking w/o howie. cuz he gonna fuck up the picks regardless.

also, wentz being a bitch. cap hit or naw, he needs to be out. unless they getting hella picks for him (which, everyone knows they are desperate), philly should keep him on the roster next year, eat the roster spot and DNP him every week. let the teams that actually want him get their qbs elsewhere.

Seriously though that rig was bad for football because it went two ways. Wasn’t a good look.

Philly rigging for a draft position and to keep the giants out of the playoffs. And focking Washington punting at the 35 instead of kicking a FG. That kept the score 20-14 with Philly getting the +6.5 cover. Craziest shit ever. Ain’t no analytics in the world that would tell you to do that with 1 minute left. The nfl tried to rig the schedules to stop teams from overtly throwing games at the end of seasons. But they underestimated how dedicated folks are to themselves. They should’ve looked around. 1) tanking exists, and you’re not gonna put an end to it unless you completely randomize the draft order (which they shouldn’t do).

2) absolutely none of those 4 teams really deserve to win the division. A 6-10 team being mad about this is hilarious. I don’t even think an 11-5 team should get mad if they miss the playoffs. All you had to do was get to 7-9 to win this shit and you still couldn’t?

Wentz and Pederson's relationship is "fractured beyond repair"
Pederson is coming back
GM says he can't imagine moving on from Wentz
Jalen Hurts is there and clearly wants to play...but, Wentz is staying???
Hurts was pulled last night in the final game of the season because according to the coach, Nate Sudfeld "deserved a chance to get some snaps"
LOL

Work it JT. Work it!

Aka

Unlike horrid franchises who announce to earth that they are trying to unload somebody, the Eagles are likely playing games to try to make sure they have options to make a move if/when the time comes.

two other coaches and two players test positive. Yikes. They are POSITIVE...then there will be contact tracing...and they have a playoff game in 4 days. This ain't like a week 16 against the Jets. This is the end of your season shit.
2729255, Browns have been hit hard the last few weeks

They will keep on rolling. What we have learned throughout the season is that positive tests don’t stop nada. The NFL has been dealing with this all season long, so there will be players on the field....bench, practice squad, or get a dude off the street.

Worst case scenario they have to postpone the game until the weekday. But “one monkey don’t stop no hustle.”

The league is basically thinking: 'we don't GAF. We're playing these games and getting to the end of the season even if it ends up Mike Glennon vs Matt Schaub'. Well, kinda sorta. We barely seen any of the key/big shit QBs getting fridged for COVID yet (Cam doesn't count but they DID get Lamar). I would be VERY surprised if we get this during the playoffs. Imagine NFC championship and they say 'hmmmm, Rodgers, you out dog. Contact tracing yo'. No way.

These teams tho? I have no idea. I would think folks would be getting threatened like crazy to follow the rulez and try to stay as safe as damn possible...especially when away from the team. I would also think that some of these folks would say 'okay' and then go do some shit that they damn near shouldn't even be doing during a season when there's not COVID going on. So who knows.

the media rocked with him so much, that people just went the other way. Dude works his ass off, doesn't get in any trouble (that we know of), is loved by his teammates...and he's gonna moonwalk into the HOF, when he retires. Prolly end up being a DC, somewhere.
2729290, still surprised they didn't attempt to create a bubble for the playoffs...

..fewer teams means that hosting them would be a challenge, but much better than what they're currently facing.

They won’t care until a big shit qb that anyone really likes misses a playoff game based on their rules. I’m figuring if the qb himself isn’t positive, he’s gonna play contract tracing be damned. We’ll see!
2729292, They've already set the precedent...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Tue Jan-05-21 09:53 PM
..what happened with Baltimore was one thing, but what they did regarding the Broncos set the table.

I agree that most people won't flinch @ the Browns/Steelers matchup, but should something like this happen with the Chiefs or the Packers and the league suddenly has a shit-storm it won't be able to handle well.
