let's run it back!

Well things will look a little different next season with some new faces, Pelinka has been busy...

So far we acquired Dennis Schröder from OKC for Danny Green and a pick...

Then we signed Montrezl Harrell and Wes Matthews...

word on the street is that we're pursuing Bogdanovic, that would be a major get if we could pull that off...

as for those leaving Dwight is gone and he did it in typical Dwight fashion lol...

Danny Green had underperformed 2 Finals in a row and was become known for his mouth more than his shot...

Rumor is Rondo wants to go to the Clippers? Who knows what AB will do. Apparently JaVale picked up his option. Personally I would like to see Kieff back but that may not happen... I wonder if Cuz is still considered an option?

KCP is up in the air right now...

Of course AD is the bigfish but its considered a foregone conclusion that he re-signs just for how long. I think it'll probably be 2+1 deal for obvious reasons...
2725930, we got better. our competition did not. lets ride.

Schröder is probably our most dynamic “small” guard since Van Exel? Excited to have a guard who can create offense and even take over a game when he’s got it rolling. Too often last year we were hoping mediocre players would make wide open shots. And still won. Having a 3rd guy who can create and get buckets? Plus Harrell? Definitely got a lot better offensively.

I think Matthews can bring a similar level of play that Green did for a lot less money. Glad McGee is back. Would like to keep KCP and find another big that can take Howard’s role.

this was probably his last chance at a decent contract, as long as he is out of the West and especially not to the Clippers.

I feel like Dwight ran his course here.

I’m still holdout hope for Cuz.
2726086, im very excited to see the Kuz/Schroder/Trezz "load mgmt specials"
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Nov-23-20 10:14 AM
we can afford to sit both bron and AD out at the same time now.
2726095, This team just got some serious depth
Posted by Vex_id, Mon Nov-23-20 12:20 PM
Upgraded at virtually every position - and Schroder/Trez alone brings in elite reinforcement to really enable Bron to play at that golden 32/33 minute mark where he is most deadly and sustainable.

And they kept Kuz through all this? Outstanding job by Pelinka. Couldn't have asked for a better free agency.

2726098, I'm surprised that Kuz is still there

there's a proper way to run an organization

and then there's whatever the hell he's doing over there running players into the ground and being shady about folks injuries
2726677, Still bothers me how Ainge & Co. treated Isaiah
Posted by Vex_id, Wed Dec-02-20 02:04 PM
Dude lost his sibling - and played *right away* in the playoffs - then endured a brutal injury and played through that on top of it - causing irreparable damage.

Literally sacrificed his body and put it all on the line - and was discarded by Ainge & the Celtics like trash. He was an absolute monster at one point and really deserved one big contract -- but because of his blind loyalty and commitment to the Celtics - putting his commitment to the team/org above his own well-being - he missed out on that big contract.

And Ainge probably gives zero fucks about it.

Danny Ainge said the next year will tell a lot about how Kemba Walker’s knee will be moving forward. Ainge said maybe the Celtics didn’t do him justice by bringing him back so quickly in the bubble. Ainge doesn’t want to make that mistake again “if it was a mistake.”

We all know the AD story, but the fact that it's pretty clear players around the league aren't exactly lining up to play with one of the most talented young players says everything you need to know.

While we're at it, he's not a good GM either. One of the funniest things I've read on Reddit recently is "If Danny Ainge were holding a gun to my head I wouldn't be afraid at all because he'll never pull the trigger"

Dope.
2726699, I'm so appreciative of Jeanie, Rob, Magic, all of them.
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Dec-02-20 04:28 PM
Rob is showing a great balance of big picture and fine tuning approaches to this game.

Jeanie fired her wack ass brother and they've been killing it ever since.

I was pretty hard on Kobe's last season, even suggesting they should have traded him. I still stand by my wish that they should have done more to reign him into the system.

But that contract? I think the notion that that was a message to future players, that they'll take care of their players. Even cats like Danny Green, who just got dealt, have nothing but good things to say about them.

Jeanie's making good on Jerry's legacy.
Rob is showing a deft hand.

We have plenty of things working for us- location, status as a storied franchise, timing lining up with Lebron, lottery balls giving us an edge to land AD, etc.

But all in all, this has been a stellar rebuild. I hated giving up BI and Zo to get AD. Not that AD isn't worth it, but I still like the idea of growing with our players. Skipping straight to the top with FA signings and trades doesn't have the same feel as growing with the players, but that's just a matter of sentiment.

On that note, Brawn and Brow have been outstanding as leaders in the wake of Kobe's death. That pain is muted, but will never go away, so deep is my love for him as a Laker. That we have Brawn running this show in the aftermath of that incalculable loss is a gift.

Frankly, this is the most humbling a time as I've ever had as a Lakers fan. I think I appreciate this current set of circumstances more than I have at any other time, even if I my emotional connection was deeper in years past.

2726713, that's not realistic in today's NBA...

2726725, That has what to do with the sentiment, exactly?
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Dec-02-20 06:33 PM
At any rate, let's not act like Golden State was ten years ago.

Even the Cavs won with Kyrie, whom they drafted, with Brawn as the returning son.

But even without those, I wasn't pondering whether or not that sort of build is working in the NBA.

I was lamenting the difference in emotional connection between the two types of teams, having grown up with a homegrown superstar winning two sets of titles with a near complete roster turnover between them, and now watching a team who went from the lottery to a title in two years time via free agency and trade.

Who went from lottery to a title in 2 years with a "homegrown superstar"?

Odd question, considering I never made that argument.
I didn't say anything that even approaches that.

But since you're asking, Tim won a chip in his second year.

And yeah, I already know all of your asinine "YEAH BUT ROBINSON WAS INJURED! THE LOCKOUT!" retorts, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a correct answer to your malformed question.

And it still, once again, has absolutely nothing to do with anything I said.

they could’ve had kuzma too for all I care we fleeced them and got the SWEET hardware to show for it. and bout to win another one.

What kind of myopic, self-absorbed nincompoop do you have to be to "disagree" with a subjective personal preference?

I like the idea of growing with our players and taking the full journey together.

I like the FA/Trade method less, because I don't develop the same attachment to the players, unless I get to go on that journey.

What is there for *you* to disagree with there?

It's not like I said, fuck this chip, give me back those kids.
It's not like I said, we'd be better off without AD and with two guys who have still yet to prove themselves in meaningful games.

I said I prefer one method of reaching this particular goal to another, for purely sentimental reasons.

We took the express lane and reached our destination quickly.
I talked about how impressed I am with- and humbled by- that feat, though I still prefer the scene route.

That's a nuanced perspective. You may as well disagree with me loving a burger and saying "some grilled onions would have put this over the top"1🤷🏻‍♂️

2726796, It’s faulty logic, you have this romance with Golden State but the only...
Posted by ThaTruth, Thu Dec-03-20 11:21 AM
reason they won that first title was because Kyrie and Kevin Love were hurt in the Finals. Then they came back the next year and helped Lebron beat Golden State and GS had to go get some HELP.
2726797, I have a romance with Golden State? Since when?
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu Dec-03-20 11:34 AM
>reason they won that first title was because Kyrie and Kevin
>Love were hurt in the Finals. Then they came back the next
>year and helped Lebron beat Golden State and GS had to go get
>some HELP.

So.. they won a title, yes?
Injuries are a thing. That's part of the game.

The number of "the only reason _____ did _____ is because (insert thing that derails team/player X) happened" scenarios we've seen could be a post of it's own.

Grant Hill and TMac healthy and in their primes probably make it out of the East a few times. Who knows if they could have attracted a third star at some point in that.

Who knows what happens if the Lakers have a healthy Ariza and Bynum in 08?

Do the Bad Boys have two rings if Magic and Byron don't go down with injuries?

Do the 04 Lakers beat Detroit with a healthy Mailman?

There's no faulty logic on my part whatsoever. The Warriors went from the lottery to a contender, with their own home grown talent. They won a chip with that talent, and built themselves into the sort of team that attracted a top tier player, and won more.

I'm talking about taking that journey and developing an emotional attachment to the players. I'm sure GS fans had a far stronger attachement to Steph, Klay, and Dray than to KD. I doubt it's even debatable.

The only faulty logic here is your, per usual, overly simplistic hot take in response to a nuanced perspective.
2726811, Iguodala wasn't "home grown talent" but spin it how you wan lol

2726826, You mean the guy I didn't name as home grown?
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu Dec-03-20 01:05 PM
The only spin here is you bending over backward to pretend that Steph, Klay and Dray weren't the core of that team.

It's like you've decided to challenge yourself to make each successive reply dumber than your last.

If so, you're doing a great job.

Also check out the Road Trippin pod they have Bron sauced up on there for about 40 mins. I can’t decide if RJ is annoying or funny and they talk about that in the show actually 😂. Fun to hear loose lebron

No Avery - no Rondo --- Dennis should be a no-brainer to start IMO.

I think the starting 5 will be

1 - Schroder
2 - KCP
"3" - Kang
4 - AD
5 - Gasol

I just don't think you change your team that much when you win a chip- bubble or no bubble.

I think you bring as many back as your reasonably can.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Not saying it would have made a huge difference in the Suns series... I don't know...but a lot of folks gave Rob too much credit.

I mean...maybe you add the corpse of Marc Gasol to your current mix...but I don't think you let all those guys walk, etc.

A lot of talk about AD's durability, about Bron being gassed and giving up, etc.

I think there needs to be at least some talk about Rob.
