2723408, Clippers and Rockets players want Lue as coach.
Posted by allStah, Tue Oct-13-20 01:19 PM
For what reason, I don’t know. This makes me think that clippers players intentionally got Doc fired. No way in hell Doc gets fired if Kawhi and George speak up for him.

Lue lets players run the show to me. ....of course they want him

Doc should have never taken him on as an assistant

2723410, What makes you say that?

>Lue lets players run the show to me. ....of course they want
>him.

Because he won with Lebron?

Every coach has said Lebron is smarter than they are. And Lebron
ran the Lakers.

Why would you say that about Lue?

2723411, What did he actually coach?
Posted by allStah, Tue Oct-13-20 01:29 PM
I saw the huddle. I saw Lebron and players looking elsewhere.
And when Lebron left , he was replaced by Larry Drew.

He was coach in name only, and a coach that Lebron wanted, because there would be less interference. .....Lebron wanted Riley to fire spolestra, but Riley told him to sit his ass down.
2723413, You saw every huddle? You know everything that he did?

Lue was the coach of a championship team....did he not do
what a coach is supposed to?

I find these narratives extremely offensive

He won a championship with Lebron. Come on. He is not known for his Xs and Os. Maybe he is good at dealing with and handling superstar players.

Maybe I’m going off s small sample size....but this is the coach who is suppose to take down the lakers?

I’m just not big on Lue.

2723417, "He's not known for Xs and O's?" You just described Kerr.

Kerr hires elite offensive and defensive coaches for a reason.

So basically Lue is Kerr?

Why are you so skeptical?

He coached his team to a 3-1 victory

Btw, I’m not big on Kerr either.
2723426, lol, he hasn't even mentioned race once n/m

2723428, He ain’t got to mention it. It’s quite obvious.

When he originally stated that my take on Lue was offensive....as if I wouldn’t say the same thing about a white coach. Saying a coach is not good does not equate to being offensive

.and then he compared Lue and Kerr, as if to say a white coach does it, etc.

I know OE. I know how he gets down with the coaching aspect in the NBA.
2723500, I'm skeptical of him too but this isn't true

From what I understand, he kept LeBron accountable too. That's about the only notable thing I've heard exclusively attributable to him but that is significant since managing egos is a huge part of the job.

But, yeah, with LeBron as your coach on the court, it's hard to really discern where his genius ends and where the coach's influence begins.

So I'll be interested to see how he does with lesser stars and when he's given several year to make an imprint.
2723509, I notice that no one questions Kerr's IQ. He's ALL ego management.

Kerr literally just hires smart people to run the
offense and defense. Mike Brown transformed them into
defensive gods. Alvin Gentry transformed the offense.

Kerr manages the personalities and cohesion.

To not talk about this racist.

because there would be less interference.

2723510, you're dead on about Kerr, too....
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Oct-14-20 01:01 PM
it's completely coincidental...but, I'm currently reading (listening) to Ethan Strauss's book on the Warriors. In the section where he discusses Mark Jackson's exit and Steve Kerr's incoming...he said that one of the huge differences between the two of them is that Mark Jackson wanted to be the unquestioned head man on the staff...where as Kerr wanted to hire the absolute best minds he could, for his staff and let them do their thing. For whatever that's worth.

Because black coaches get fired and replaced by their "smart" white assistants see Casey/Nurse
2723596, The paths they took/had available play a part in it

There's definitely some privilege to how Kerr went from commentating, to being an exec, to becoming HC but I think that path is why it doesn't feel weird that he's outsourced the Xs and Os to great assistants. That's a continuation of his management style as an exec.

Lue's had more experience directing Xs and Os so I expect more of him in terms of that but there's no reason he couldn't outsource everything like Kerr if he wanted to.

I'm just saying that LeBron deservedly gets alot of coaching credit as well so its hard for me to tell what Lue brings to the table. He hasn't developed some signature offensive or defensive strategy as far as I know so it seems like he should just be evaluated on his ability to build a coaching staff and connect with the players.
2723599, you think?

2723416, The reason why I said that about the soccer post
Posted by allStah, Tue Oct-13-20 01:45 PM
Is because soccer is not a huge topic, so we keep it all in one thread. I’m
always in the soccer thread, but you guys aren’t.

And as you can see, it got no real replies. It wasn’t a diss.
2723418, the reason why I said that about this post...
Posted by Dstl1, Tue Oct-13-20 01:48 PM
is because there is a post, specifically about the NBA coaching vacancies.
2723504, The Rocket's job is interesting, assuming that their not going to play...
