Zones, for one. Drop coverage for another. There are others. Because there are plenty of teams who have guys that can shoot but can’t defend. So you scheme to protect those guys.

Or you scheme based on the opponent. I mean, the Lakers have on the floor a guy who at basically all times is *not* looking to shoot. You can make plans revolving around that.

But Spo is just letting Herro and Robinson do full switches on multiple consecutive possessions down the stretch. I realize he doesn’t think he has a better option, that the Heat stand a better chance with their 3-point shooting on the floor than with them off the floor... I just don’t really understand the defensive decision making. Maybe Bam playing hurt has fucked up some of the stuff they planned on throwing at the Lakers. I don’t know.
