Heat vs Celtics ( Heat are up 1-0 )

Nuggets vs Lakers ( 0-0)

I’m rolling with the Heat, and , of course, I’m rolling against the Lakers.

2720393, Lakers and Celtics in 6.
Posted by Ryan M, Wed Sep-16-20 11:54 AM
2720401, lakers got 10, maybe 11 games left in the season
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Sep-16-20 12:31 PM
let enjoy them as we wrap this ring up.

Lakers in 5
Heat in 6

Lakers in 5
2720403, don't disrespect Denver
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Sep-16-20 12:34 PM
2720405, im not. we're much better than them.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Sep-16-20 12:42 PM
if we lose we lose but i don't lose sleep over this team vs anyone.
2720408, I definitely like that matchup better than the Clippers

2720407, im in
Posted by mista k5, Wed Sep-16-20 12:49 PM
i didnt see myself rooting for the heat but here i am. i think celtics vs heat goes to 7. heat take it.

i have to say im really not familiar with denver. cant underestimate them but i think the lakers do take it fairly easily. as they have shown denver always has the chance to claw back in but i dont think it will happen this time. 4-1

i think the heat scare the lakers in the first couple of games but lakers win in 5 or 6.

i do plan to watch as much as possible from here on out.
2720409, Lakers and HEAT
Posted by Dr Claw, Wed Sep-16-20 12:57 PM
don't matter if it goes to 7 of them. that's the NBA finals right there
2720412, MAN, I'm torn between Heat and Celts...
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Sep-16-20 01:01 PM
I genuinely like so many players on BOTH teams...ugh

Lakers in 6...Murray will have one go off game...and Denver will get a second, because they're just a good team. Lakers will just be too much, in the end. We have yet to see the full freshness of Bron's Covid Legs.

2720425, me too...
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Sep-16-20 02:19 PM
>I genuinely like so many players on BOTH teams...ugh

obviously I love JT and I love Smart but as a Laker fan its hard to ever root for the Celtics plus I'm wary of how their going to try to crown Brad Stevens if this team gets to the Finals.

>Lakers in 6...Murray will have one go off game...and Denver

In the West I love the matchups for the Lakers, who are they going to put on Bron? Millsap? Grant? and Jokic trying to guard AD? I think AD can give him problems defensively. I think we can run different guys at Murray like we did with Harden.
2720424, This has been a compelling journey in a the bubble.
Posted by Castro, Wed Sep-16-20 02:19 PM
Teams figuring it out, teams imploding.....players making it their moment to shine (TJ Warren)....

The NBA is going to hard pressed to top this next season.

I’m watching the low level and dude has been on the same side of the court for the whole second half on offense. No movement at all.

He is a rookie, and rookies don’t have the experience to deal with the pressures of

They can’t really hang in man-to-man with Boston’s perimeter weapons. Zone is a definite game changer for them. Brilliant coaching by Spo.
2720557, He literally said fuck it, it worked for the Raptors

on every possession and takes over as needed

That’s hard to fock with.

And that zone is brutal. And the shooting.

Almost Everyone can shoot on that team...they are not streaky.

It’s not like Boston isn’t good ...they were up by like 17 points!

2720578, RE: Raps last year, Heat this year: 2-3 zone
Posted by allStah, Thu Sep-17-20 09:33 PM
It’s kinda bullshit though. It was banned before 2010 and all the greats played straight up defense.Without zones, raptors don’t get A ring and would the heat even be here?

Celtics were killing them, so Spo switched to a zone out of desperation and that shit just happened to work.

The reason why zones are used in grammar school ,high school and college is because kids are not totally developed yet to play man to man.

I’m glad because I got the heat....but I still feel some kind of way about zone defenses.

2720597, It hits different when you have Crowder, Butler and Bam in it.
Posted by Castro, Fri Sep-18-20 05:41 AM
Robinson and Herro too...Dragon is the only one they kinda have to hide in it- everyone else is long and super active.

This is more like a John Chaney zone.....
2720571, Where the hell did all the Heat fans go?

2720573, Would you rather have Bulter or Harden?
Posted by RandomFact, Thu Sep-17-20 09:14 PM
on the surface the question sounds kind of crazy but I think it's closer than people think.

them intangibles (and great defense) go a long way in the playoffs. at least when compared to relying on stepback threes and and one's (and little defense).

also, player movement is really important when teams lock in on defense in the playoffs. harden quite literally does not move one foot after he gives up the ball.
2720598, Harden's defense has improved this year and I think he would move
Posted by Castro, Fri Sep-18-20 05:43 AM
more if the system required him to move.
2720577, we can put that asterisk talk to rest.
Posted by Reeq, Thu Sep-17-20 09:33 PM
if anything...these playoffs more than any other...has exposed exactly who teams really are.

its as close to an 'everything being equal' situation as you can get.

same venues, same practice time, same rules for everyone.

no hiding behind home crowds, schedule splits, extra days off, flight times, etc.

just straight up gotta face the same team every other day and man up.
2720584, RE: we can put that asterisk talk to rest.
Posted by allStah, Thu Sep-17-20 09:46 PM
Naw it gets a asterisk.

Not being able to have your normal nutrition, all day basketball, being in the bubble 24/7, that’s a problem. Taking a break from basketball allows you to actually concentrate on basketball. You get to relax. However ,some people thrive from that
concentrated, dorm existence. Some people don’t.

Keep in mind a lot of players didn’t want to be there, and some arrived late.

This isn’t a normal surroundings.

And I personally feel a lot of them didn’t and don’t give a fock.

However the teams that are able to concentrate and have veteran leaders do have an advantage.
2720591, It was entirely stupid to begin with
Posted by blackfoot_female, Thu Sep-17-20 10:31 PM
Asterisk is for when a team or a player cheated and got away with it. Ain’t nothing about this season asterisk worthy.

Grammar school box in 1 in the NBA?

I remember Bradley Beal laughing when a team put a zone on him. He was like he hadn’t seen a zone box and 1 since grammar school.
2720581, If it works, it works.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Sep-17-20 09:38 PM
Always felt this way in college too. The “zone is for cowards” stuff is the same as the “hack-a-Shaq is for cowards” stuff. Make your shots and they won’t do those things. You’re a professional basketball team. Can’t make shots? No sympathy.

And Brad’s refusal to adjust is so embarrassing. Straight up bad coaching.
2720586, RE: If it works, it works.
Posted by allStah, Thu Sep-17-20 09:53 PM
He’s young and this is his first taste of the ECF...and a squad full of mostly youngins. Plus that hard ass series against raptors already proved that he is a good coach.

He just has to take his lumps just like spo did.

Spo is a championship veteran with dragic, jimmy and crowder ...that’s some serious ass experience and toughness.

Celtics just aren’t there yet.
2720590, This is Brad’s third ECF appearance.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Sep-17-20 10:24 PM
And he’s been coaching 7 years now. I know he’s young... but he’s experienced enough that there shouldn’t be excuses for his lack of adjustment.
2720595, Don’t bother allstah with facts. He deals in DAWGS
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Sep-18-20 12:36 AM
2720605, Thank you for the correction.
Posted by allStah, Fri Sep-18-20 09:29 AM
Forgot about those finals against the Cavs... because Cavs would go to the finals every year. It wasn’t memorable, because lebron dominated the east during those years. A lot of those games I don’t remember to be honest with you.

It’s not an excuse. Smart is 26, Brown and Tatum are 22-23. Kemba doesn’t have a lot of playoff experience from playing with the Hornets for so many years. They don’t have Hayward. I mean they are right where they need to be.

Look at how many times Jordan came up short in the playoffs, got his first ring at 28. Shit ain’t easy, and all of these games are close, and he is losing against a system defense which isn’t easy to beat ....ask Giannis. We all know man to man Celtics are clearly the better team. They were up by 17 points.

Dude is a good ass coach. It’s just gong to take more time, development and adjustments. He gets another 2 years, if they lose , to figure it out.

We just want to fry heads every time someone loses.

2720582, I have no problem with any of it.
Posted by Beezo, Thu Sep-17-20 09:38 PM
If a team can’t figure it out at the pro level then that’s on them.
2720602, yup

2720625, RE: I have no problem with any of it.
Posted by allStah, Fri Sep-18-20 11:26 AM
But that’s the point. Zone isn’t a pro level defense, which is why it used to be banned.
The whole purpose of being a NBA player is playing on both sides of the ball, playing
Offense and Defense.

So ,since players can’t play on both sides of the ball, or stop the other team, let’s just all sit in the box.

It’s equivalent to parking the bus in soccer.
2720629, No. If it’s an amateur level defense as you claim then pros should destroy it.
Posted by Beezo, Fri Sep-18-20 12:14 PM
Right?

2720680, it was more likely banned because the game was different.
Posted by tariqhu, Fri Sep-18-20 10:07 PM
it was played more in the paint. the middle would get clogged. zone and hand checking made for more defensive games, which a lot of folks find harder to watch.

today, outside shooting is more prevalent. good outside shooting will nullify zone, but also less consistent.
2720600, Confused why they can’t counter it

That's one of those organizations that is clearly beastly at finding ways to maximize the talent of young players. If Duncan ends up in, say, Sacramento, does he become remotely the same player?

That said, yes, Cleveland is stupid and has been stupid for some time. Between Cleveland's front office and the massive culture change between dealing with non-five-star college kids and millionaires who've been stars their entire lives, Beilein honestly probably should've known better.

2720666, The way L.A. has approached game 1s thus far is fascinating
Posted by Vex_id, Fri Sep-18-20 07:44 PM
Dropped both game 1s (and LeBron has actually dropped quite a few Game 1s in recent years - but has then gone on to win the series).

It reminds me of how Floyd Mayweather approached big prize fights. He would often use the first round to feel out his opponent, study, and would even concede the first round to the opponent as he felt out the rhythm, spacing & timing. Then, he'd adjust on the fly and absolutely dominate the middle and late rounds, completely solving the puzzle.

Will be interesting to see if this trend continues tonight for the Lakers and LeBron - or if they get off to a good start for the first time during this playoff run.

-->
2720667, They can end this in 4 if they want to

2720675, That was clearly an offensive foul on lebron.
Posted by allStah, Fri Sep-18-20 09:24 PM
If you’re going to let him just bull his way to the paint, and push guys out the
Way and call a defensive foul, might as well not even have this series.

Players are playing him physical like he is playing them physical. Better off just letting it be a non-call.

First quarter none of those calls are made, and they are all
Playing, but now you get the whistles out ...which appears to be the only way to slow Denver down.

Their whole squad is going to foul out if it stays like this....

Milsap, Jokic, Murray had to sit the entire 2nd quarter ...thats their scoring right there
2720676, 70-59, Lakers @ the half...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Fri Sep-18-20 09:34 PM
..Jokic, Milsap, & Murray with 3 fouls a piece.

Dwight Howard being the smart troll, aggressive on both ends of the floor.

Should be interesting to see how Bron & AD pace the 2nd half.

2720685, Malone is going to have to figure
Posted by allStah, Fri Sep-18-20 10:47 PM
out how to keep his stars on the floor.

Denver won the first quarter, and then the lakers went on a 17-1 run in the 2nd quarter and that was pretty much ball game.

During that stretch Milsap,Murray and jokic picked up 3 fouls a piece, so all of denver’s
scoring was on the bench for the rest of the half. And it forced the team to defend less aggressively.

Malone is going to have to solve that if he can. As much as I hate zone, might as well play it to keep players out of foul trouble.

Like Melanism stated, the calls are going to be the difference in this series.

2720686, Denver can't stop AD or Bron.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Sep-19-20 12:43 AM

For some reason the heat barely played zone ....made no sense. Very confusing.
2720708, Miami has to punch first from now on too.
Posted by Castro, Sat Sep-19-20 11:37 PM
If the C's didn't build that lead, it would be 3-0. And Hayward is back so everyone (Tatum, Brown, Smart) is going to play harder to stay on the floor.

I still pick them to go the NBA finals. They are a team that reminds me of the Warriors. That they could afford to send Justise packing when they did told me a lot.

You have Duncan Robinson being "Klay" and Tyler Herro who is special.
Bam who is better than Donkeylips.
And Jimmy just coming in and wrecking shit.

Celtics got their hands full.

Lebron had 6 points and 6 turnovers
In the second half.

Went to the hole in the final seconds, then deferred at the rim with a kick out.
The shot was missed, Denver didn’t corral the rebound leaving a few seconds on the clock. And AD did his mvp thing and hit the last shot.

In the interview he said the play was originally for lebron, but said he wanted the shot and will always want the last shot....lakers are going to live or die through that.

I would like Vex to answer please

>That team?

Yes, the team that.... you know.... loat.

>I don’t think you realize the hypocrisy you spit. Your team
>had a melt down against the same squad

>Lol

But.... the Lakers won the game.

All you're saying is that they came back, like that matters more than
the Lakers winning the actual game.

What will you say when the Lakers win two more?

If it goes 5 games, you'll talk about how they won a game.
If it goes 6, you'll talk about how they won 2 games.
If it goes 7 games, you'll talk about how they won 3 games.

If the Lakers win, but they win with Brawn having an off night, you'll talk about Brawn's off night.

If the Lakers win and Denver makes a fight out of it, you'll talk about how they really took it to the Lakers.

You'll ignore the actual win, trying to gain some moral victory.

If the Lakers win the title, you'll talk about how we're celebrating a win from a guy that was previously not our guy, because he pl played for other teams.

If AD does what he was literally brought in to do, which is to be the next in a long line of dominant, Alpha level Lakers big men, and not merely Brawn's subservient sidekick, you'll focus on Brawn not being the clearcut #1, or needing to be "bailed out" by a guy who was brought in so we can have two superstars because even all-time, GOAT short list players are human, and at least two superstars are still the general rule of thumb for winning NBA titles, despite a handful of exceptions.

I'm sure you have endless variations of these, but the overall pattern here is that literally anything the Lakers do, any success they have, you'll find a way to try to downgrade that success with an illogical, irrational, even non-sequitur argument that will leave even ardent Lakers haters scratching their headz.

I get the feeling for you Jamal>>>AD from a personal standpoint. You rooting for Jamal this series?

Bonus points, AD got that shot off because a Blue Devil cowered. hahahah...looking like Danny Green gonna get back to back rings!
2720884, Yeah it doesn't really matter to me
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Mon Sep-21-20 01:27 PM
I'm happy either way. I just root for my guys to ball out.

I don't want the Nuggets to get swept. But outside of that, their future is bright and they're a season of Michael Porter Jr getting his feet under him and one more player away from making another leap.

The only thing that upsets me is that Boogie isn't on this Lakers team too.

But if Rondo gets his 2nd, AD gets his first. And Vogel gets a ring. That's an ideal outcome.

This is why you trade the young guns for a once-in-a-decade talent like AD. This shot reminded me of the Kyrie game-winner when the Cavs were vying for a title. Huge confidence builder - and for the Lakers to be as dominant as they hope to be, Big Ant's gotta be the high-mileage/usage road-dog to Bron, and he's shown he can be every bit of that and then some.

This dude just saved lebron’s bum ass second half meltdown

That dude said the last shot will go through him, and that he lives for that
moment and wants that moment. The lakers will live and die with him taking the last shot. He told rondo to give him the ball when the play was for Lebron.

That’s not a top level robin ...that’s not a robin at all. That’s an individual, separate hero in itself... more like iron man and captain America...and the lakers are the avengers.

Just a really bad half. It honestly felt like they didn't hit a bucket until halfway through the 2nd. So many open 3's just didn't go down (or were airballs, ha). I expect the game to tighten up in the 3rd - Lakers are usually a very good 3rd quarter team - but this feels like how it should; that the Nuggets know this is a must win.

The stove range has been turned on.
Taking out pots and the crisco right now.

Not sure yet, but the biggest frying in history might be on deck.

2721077, Tough loss to a tough team...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Tue Sep-22-20 11:17 PM
..LA made a serious run to cut into that lead, but Denver showed poise and held on for the win.

Lakers were inconsistent from the perimeter and wasted their size advantage with only Bron getting double digit rebounds.

Howard should get the start for the rest of this series.

2721103, Yeah, this was never gonna be a sweep.

I said Lakers in 6 for a reason. Denver is tough - they’ve got all the tools. And despite a 20 point deficit, Bron with a million TOs, being out rebounded horribly, and missing wide open shots - it still came down to a 1 possession game. Honestly felt a lot like the Magic Finals series from 09 - pretty decisive game 1 win, a near loss in game 2, and a loss against a team who HAD to win Game 3.

I like our chances in Game 4.
2721078, Seriously, Denver is the better team.
Posted by allStah, Tue Sep-22-20 11:21 PM
Lakers won game 1 because 3/5ths of Denver’s starters were in foul trouble and that allowed the lakers to go on a 17-1 run. Prior to that Denver won the first quarter

Game 2 it took a last minute shot to get the win for the lakers.

And here in Game 3, Denver was up by 20 at one point, and completely controlled the game.

They were better than the clippers and could very well be better than the Lakers.

The maturity will always escape you.

Tatum is still developing, and isn’t even in his prime yet.
He has yet to reach the level of being a mega star or top 5 player.

We just did a post of best players under 25. But go ahead fry away.

And please grow up and stop with the name calling.

2721160, Yes, the maturity will always escape me

But you, a man in your 40s, is still posting like we all did 10 years ago.

It’s not an excuse. He is 22. Bron was what 29 when he first got his ring?

What are you going to fry about 22 year old?

He is not even closed to being a finished product, as tonight as shown.

Kawhi, PG, Giannis, I get it.

Tatum was drafted in 2017. So 3 years in the the league and its frying time?

Come on......

2721163, Heavy is the head.

Can’t praise em if you can’t fry em too.

He went 0-a billion in the first half. Oh well.

How’s OJ Mayo btw

2721169, Oh, I've got it right here.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Sep-24-20 12:14 AM
Jayson is only averaging 26 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 5.3 APG, 1.3 SPG, and 1.5 BPG in the Eastern Conference Finals at age 22, shooting 46% from the floor and 96% from the stripe. This is transparently unacceptable.

Clearly it's not the coach's inability to run a new offense against the zone, and clearly it's not anything his teammates are doing, like Marcus Smart shooting 14 times a game, or Gordon Hayward collecting 4 times Tatum's salary to be little more than a walking haircut.

Obviously, Jayson needed to put up more like 32/15/8 this series. All his fault.

(yeah, yeah, if you're the guy, then you shoulder the blame, I get it. buuuuuut I'm still insanely fucking excited about this kid. losing this series sucks since it's a ripe opportunity, but Miami has better big man play, if we're being honest, better coaching, and, if we're *really* being honest, better PG play this series. Tatum could've made a few more 3s, obviously, but he's just not good/experienced enough yet to make up for *all* of those differences. *shrug*)
2721177, Look, he’s OBVIOUSLY a stud.
Posted by Ryan M, Thu Sep-24-20 09:08 AM
But so is AD, Kawhi, PG, etc - all of whom put up real stinkers in these playoffs - and they took the heat. You know a huge part of this is simply stirring the pot because this board is deader than ever (AND in the playoffs at that...sad).

Tatum is gonna be ok. But you can’t go 0 for 6 in the first half of a must win game.

But then again he went nuts in the 2nd half so...

2721162, ....
Posted by allStah, Wed Sep-23-20 11:05 PM
Too much experience by Jimmy and Dragic...too much experience by those two.
Also, the composure and championship experience of Spo over Stevens.

And Boston has not figured out a way to attack and beat Miami’s Zone.

I rode with Miami because of the experience factor.....Bryant and Tatum are still developing, and not there yet to control or take over ball games. And Boston will only go as far as Tatum and Brown take them....

They really need an active big man who can run the floor ,provide some toughness and get buckets in the paint. Clint Capela would have been perfect for this squad. They had trade talks with Houston back in Feb, but didn’t pull the trigger....and missed out.

Maybe Boston gets the next one. But the heat are too strong to lose 3 straight.

2721174, Hold on. These chumps are crying to the league about lack of free throws?!
Posted by Beezo, Thu Sep-24-20 08:42 AM
Man oh man.
2721175, Malone and Murray whined about it to the media first so it's on the table.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Sep-24-20 08:57 AM
if they want to play that we can too.
2721183, Not the same .
Posted by allStah, Thu Sep-24-20 12:17 PM
Murray, Milsap and Jokic all had three fouls in the second quarter of the first game.
Come on bro. Their complaint was legitimate.

It was all about keeping the game fair. That was like 70 percent of their scoring on the bench for most of the second quarter.

For the Lakers, they didn’t have anything close to that.
2721184, and bron shooting 2 FTs all game is legit too
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Sep-24-20 12:22 PM
bron done shot less FTs all series than Jokic did in Game 2 and fucking Jerian Grant did in Game 3. that don't add up.

Denver got their swing it's time for ours.
2721186, That’s because Jokic lived in the paint in that game
Posted by allStah, Thu Sep-24-20 12:40 PM
Davis had 2 rebounds, proof that he was playing more outside.
And I don’t recall James going to the hole a lot, not sure.
However, If you’re not in the paint or driving to the paint, then you’re not going to generate fouls.

The issue with Denver was they were getting called for bullshit screen fouls , and incorrect blocking foul calls. I don’t think they complained about NOT getting calls

Not getting foul calls vs being hit with foul calls, keeping players off the floor is a huge difference.

I don’t really care about not getting calls, at least a player is still on the floor. I don’t really complain about that shit, unless it’s totally obvious and the ref missed it.
2721185, It feels like this is going to be a stressful win.
Posted by Ryan M, Thu Sep-24-20 12:26 PM
Like I think the Lakers will win Game 4 - but it'll come down to the 4th. It'll be a decisive 8-10 point win, but it IS going to be a back and forth until then.

I'm trying to remind myself it feels like the Magic finals series...and...we're right on track for that.
2721187, don't watch.
