Some of those, the last man didn’t act as the stopper. And Kemba deep in the paint away from his man was comical.

The all the above one on Giannis is the one that really got me. If he shows early on that PR, Wes would be able to go under that pick and stay in front of of the driving man... I don’t get having Wes cut back to guard focking porzingis who will just shoot right over him.

That test is hard.

Just by getting 1 right means you are aware of what’s going on.

First time I really feel like I am getting a good basketball lesson. Easy to find this stuff with football but with bball, not so much.

2 of the answers were similar.

I decided they’re both essentially right and picked one after reading quickly.

I coach high school and watch all my games back basically looking for mistakes - that much repetition makes it hard not to see the mistakes after awhile....though at NBA speed you gotta slow that video down and rewatch.

I went in thinking “I played high school ball and I watch shitloads of college ball, shouldn’t need to watch more than once or twice.”

Nah. I watched some of those clips 5-6 times, lmao. Speed of the game is unreal.

My first thought was, Kemba closed out poorly, let dude just move around him. Then I saw the failed rotation and was like, 'this quiz is about that failed rotation'. Picked C before reading D which blamed them both...like I thought lol

I was always aware on D. Had good defensive coaches when I played. The worst thing to have on a team is a guy who doesn't understand defensive schemes.

You play great D for 4-5 passes and one dude does an 'oops' and it's a bucket. I can live with better O trumping good D but when dumb D gets exploited, it's frustrating.

Good quiz tho.

This was great tho.. I was a “student of the game” pride myself on my D as a PG and had to school dudes all the time on rotating, hedging, etc.

A lot of these probably depend on a teams defensive scheme and rotations

There were a couple that I knew but talked myself out of.

But in general, basketball tactics are woefully under-covered by the press. Zach Lowe features video clips in his stories at times, but it's rare to find writers who do deep dives into strategy and play.

There are a few channels on YouTube that I watch for in-depth analysis of strategy, but I wish there was a go-to resource (written or online) that explained the basics of NBA defense.

Even the broadcasts don’t do a good job. They push the entertainment/drama angles more than anything.

But overall it is kinda tough to build on knowledge in bball if you don't play it.

agreed, and ESPN/TNT hardly ever go in-depth in their coverage of defensive success or failure.

But I would not do nearly that well watching a live game. When I can slow down the tape, I can see what went wrong. But watching a game... different story.
