Posted by benny, Wed Aug-05-20 10:08 AM
and heck, let's include the Europa League since I'm sure BrooklynWHAT and PROMO will give us breathless updates on United's run.

Two Quarter-finals are set: Leipzig-Atletico and Atalanta-PSG. Then this week we have the conclusion of the Rd of 16:

Aug 7:
City-Madrid (2-1 agg)
Lyon-Juve (1-0)

Aug 8:
Napoli-Barca (1-1)
Chelsea-Bayern (0-3)

1/4 finals: Aug 12-15
Semis: Aug 18-19
Final: Aug 23

All the games will be on CBS Sports Network (you can do a free one-month trial to CBS All Access), with the last 3 games on regular Univision.
2717137, City-Madrid will be one to watch

It was a bad game. Come back stronger next season.
2717165, PSG seem ripe for their annual self-dick shooting
Posted by benny, Thu Aug-06-20 10:49 AM
first we get Atalanta, a "small" team with the exact qualities we tend to not handle well (physical, great press, good wingers, underdogs on paper)
then we lose Mbappe to a nasty tackle. Tuchel says he'll sub in at best
now Verrati is likely out after suffering a knock in an innocuous training challenge
ADM suspended
Icardi playing like a moldy sack of potatoes
Cavani peaced out

So for once we finally have Neymar healthy on the business end of the season and he'll be in full hero-ball mode. Y-A-Y
2717166, idk if thats what it would be
Posted by cgonz00cc, Thu Aug-06-20 11:13 AM
Atalanta is really good
2717173, yeah, maybe the best in Série A since the restart

at least the loss of Illicic balances things out somewhat.

2717310, you, Sir, have clearly not watched Lyon much this year
Posted by benny, Sat Aug-08-20 07:04 PM
I will say their young midfield (Caqueret/Guimaeres) was pretty great for their age and lack of experience. Lyon will make good money on them. But yeah, they’d not gonna outscore anyone, as good as they look on paper
2717250, Sarri pretty much stole money from Juve this season 😂
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Aug-07-20 04:54 PM
he is so lucky dybala and Ronaldo dragged them over the line in serie a because he did nothing for this team this year. Ronaldo almost did it again today.

Ehhhh... I mean we're a couple years removed from that. This squad doesn't get to live off that imo. Not without him.

FOH

We just won la liga while dealing with tons of injuries, and we are still not at full strength.
Ascensio just came back. Hazard just came back, and Marcelo is out. Plus this season was interrupted and these are really scrimmage games, and there will be an asterisk placed on the season.

Ronaldo was a huge part of Real Madrid’s success, and is probably the greatest Madrid player off all time, but Bale, Benzema, Modric,Marcelo, and Ramos were a huge part of Real Madrid’s success as well.

The current team just needs to stay healthy, so that players can learn how to play with one another. The team simply lacks chemistry, and there is no set starting 11.

2717258, huh?

It was a chelsea tribute, Mr. Moronic One.

And he was more appreciated and acknowledged at chelsea than he was at Barca. He never got the credit he deserved in Spain, because Messy ( yeah, that’s the spelling) gets/got all the attention.

Same thing with Fabregas

4-4-2?

Don’t have confidence for the future right now. We are too young and inexperienced. There are going to be a lot of 21 year olds on this team next season..

Reese 21
Pulisic 21
Tomori 21
Abraham 21
Gilmore young as fock
Werner 24
RLC 23
Odi 20
Havertz -21

And more Than likely Kanté will not be back. Weak arse GK and backline.

This is a 2-3 year project ..at least. I doubt we qualify for CL next season.

2717292, Kante won’t be back? A fit Kante is a key piece.
Posted by RandomFact, Sat Aug-08-20 02:53 PM
With the way Frank wants to play he NEEDS a fit Kante. What sucks is unloading Jorginho will be a difficult task now with Sarri out. Better hope Sarri gets a new job (with transfer funds at his disposal) ASAP. Jorgi doesn’t really have a place as a starter, especially with the likely Havertz transfer. Gonna need a midfielder that can properly hold his own defensively.
2717296, Sarri ruined Kanté, and he has been having injury issues ever since
Posted by allStah, Sat Aug-08-20 03:17 PM
He is Michael Essien right now ...At 29, his stock isn’t going to get higher and he isn’t going to get better. This was the same time that we sold Essien and due to the same injury issues

Time to sell. Once he hits 30 his stock will drop a few more millions.

Jorginho is trash. Time to offload. ASAP

The focus should be on getting a good DM and getting Ampadu back off loan to fill the hole.

But this team isn’t very good and has been this way for awhile. Hazard really carried the shit out of this squad. This is a 2-3 year project and I have no glory expectations for next season ..just hope frank fights hard to keep his job and try to make CL.

Like I said losing Michale Emanelo was huge. The current directors are too focused on youth instead of what is actually needed for each position regardless of age. That is what kept us winning silverware almost every season. And I’m not that confident on these young acquisitions, no experience at winning hardware.

Most players Emanelo brought in had already won titles or some sort of hardware. Kanté, Pedro, fabgregas, Costa, willian, mata, etc

These youngins have not won shit, so they have to learn how to be winners on top of getting better at their positions....

I don’t expect anything for at least 2-3 years ....just chill and watch it grow.
2717300, We’d take Kante in a heartbeat

2717303, RE: We’d take Kante in a heartbeat
Posted by allStah, Sat Aug-08-20 04:39 PM
He will either go to Inter (We got him under Conte’s watch)!, PSG or Real Madrid. Those are the teams he is linked with.

But with most of the old guard gone, his age, current injury issues, and lampard mostly playing him out of position, I don’t see him back at the bridge....and does he really want to stick around for this intense rebuild if he is still at the top of his game?

This team is not very good right now.

2717320, supposedly Kante's presence was huge for Havertz

Kante behind him gives Kai cover to do the things he's best at
2717321, RE: supposedly Kante's presence was huge for Havertz
Posted by allStah, Sun Aug-09-20 09:16 AM
Well, according to recent reports they are going to have to sell Kanté to be able to afford Havertz, because his club is not moving on the fee.

http://www.eurosport.com/football/transfers/2019-2020/chelsea-willing-to-sell-n-golo-kante-to-raise-kai-havertz-funds-paper-round_sto7779734/story-amp.shtml

Kante out, Havertz in

“ Chelsea are willing to sell N'Golo Kante to raise funds to sign the highly-rated Kai Havertz this summer. The Blues have already confirmed the summer signings of both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner but a report from the Times reveals that Chelsea aren't done shopping just yet. Havertz is said to be wanted by Real Madrid, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Liverpool but Chelsea believe they can pip their rivals to the signing due to a financial advantage. The west London club are willing to sacrifice N'Golo Kante - who has been a long-term target of Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid - to ensure they have the funds to sign the £90-million rated German wonderkid.

Paper Round's view: N'Golo Kante is a world-class footballer - but this isn't actually the worst idea. The World Cup winner will turn 30 next season and Real Madrid are still willing to pay a huge fee for Kante. The Frenchman hasn't really found his form so far this season under Frank Lampard and there have been question marks over his ability to adapt to the Blues boss' tactical system. Kante's exit would probably mean Chelsea need to sign a new box-to-box midfielder... or find an internal replacement in their squad (Billy Gilmour or Ruben Loftus-Cheek?). The deal could be worth it if it ends up with Chelsea beating their big-name rivals to the signing of Havertz - who has lit the Bundesliga up over the past two seasons.”

And I’m not really big on spending 90 million for Havertz who is unproven in the EPL. Kid is very talented, but there is similar talent out there that isn’t as expensive. Whenever we spend big for a player we get burned ..Schrilenko, Torres, Morata, Kepa.

Our focus should be on correcting that back line and getting a GK. We got three good strikers, we got pulisic, Odi, Mount, RLC, Ziyech, Mateo. ...Ampadu, Victor Moses and kenedy will back from loan. So get another winger and a DM

But the focus has to be on that back line and GK...we gave up 60 goals this year .the most in the epl. Just got killed by Bayern Munich and that was with Kanté on the field. We need to focus on what we actually need.

once Herrera and Gueye were outta there it was a whole different ballgame. Doesn't hurt that Atalanta completely gave up on their usual ethos and switched to mid-90s catenacio tactics in the second half.
I'm worried about Navas, worried Tuchel won't learn the right lessons from the game and put Icardi and Gueye back as starters, but for now FUCK THAT WE IN THE SEMIS BOYS

messi, de jong, and the kids Setien refused to play after the reason we were excited for his hire was that he'd play the kids.

go full youth movement. burn it to the ground. i'd rather be mid-table and playing barca football with barca players than watch a team that bares any similarities to the shit i just watched for two hours. and fuck you suarez for talking to the ref after the game. you're washed, deal with it.

VONC on the board if they don't announce early elections BEFORE THE PLANE LANDS IN BARCA. Setien shouldn't even board the plane. two subs? are you even there? wtf?

pique can stay because club legend. lenglet can stay because he's not usually this bad. Semedo GOT TO GO BYE HOLY SHIT WERE YOU BAD. Alba? the ONE expensive transfer I want is Grimaldo to replace your whiny, inconsistent ass. Vidal? you complain about being on the bench, so bye. Busquets? sorry, you're getting Yaya Toure'd, welcome to the bench, you're too slow. Roberto? sure, fine, for depth. but if he starts more than half the league games, i'm gonna cry (unless it's at RB because there aren't many good options out there and we don't have youth ready yet there but we do sell semedo). suarez? sub or bounce. griez? ehh...feel like he never got a chance at his position.

next season:
dembele/fati messi griez/pedri
trincao/de jong/puig/alena/pjanic
?????/pique/garcia/lenglet and ?????

fuck this.

Posted by calminvasion, Sat Aug-15-20 03:49 PM
Go on kid, Dat ‘Lade in the building. Glad he's health again

Man our scouting department killed It that one summer - the Jeff, Bennacer, Malen... Too bad they came in at the absolute worst time in the club when Wenger was in his last days and no one was paying any attention. All gone within 2 years. SMH
2717733, Man...

2717737, I wish there was a city fan on here to clown.
Posted by dillinjah, Sat Aug-15-20 03:57 PM
Regardless a richly deserved L
2717771, They got dominated in the midfield for a full half
Posted by bshelly, Sun Aug-16-20 06:49 AM
To repeat:

Manchester City.

Got dominated.

In the MIDFIELD.

hazoo kristi, pep.
2717778, They went full Spurs with Rodri-Gundogan-Fernandinho
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sun Aug-16-20 10:53 AM
theres no reason for more than one of those players to be on the pitch at any given time unless protecting a late lead
2717781, Foden and Mahrez on the bench was galaxy brain shit
Posted by smutsboy, Sun Aug-16-20 11:47 AM
2717738, lolololololol
Posted by smutsboy, Sat Aug-15-20 03:58 PM
just wow

then again, City's defense has been a dumpster fire allllll season. That's why LFC was so far ahead.
2717739, really really impressed by Caqueret
Posted by benny, Sat Aug-15-20 04:04 PM
20 going on 30, he's a future star this one
2717748, they need to stick to this format
Posted by nighttripper, Sat Aug-15-20 05:06 PM
that way, I only have to subscribe to this wack ass altice/SFR/RMC app a month a year
but mostly because direct elimination is the most enjoyable tournament format by a long mile
2717749, wait, nobody’s talking about the god Dayot Upamecano in here?
Posted by nighttripper, Sat Aug-15-20 05:11 PM
he’s been the most impressive player in the whole tournament to me so far
unbelievable game

he’s the future of les bleus and I can’t fucking wait
2717773, he's so good
Posted by thejerseytornado, Sun Aug-16-20 09:16 AM
honestly surprised Leipzig's been able to keep him this long, considering big teams tried to sign him in 2015 when he signed for them.

2717756, man, what a pair of matches. Barca gets WASHED...
Posted by PROMO, Sat Aug-15-20 06:00 PM
and Citeh straight chokes.

haha. couldn't write it better.
2717770, I thoroughly enjoyed the QFs
Posted by bshelly, Sun Aug-16-20 06:48 AM
High drama in three matches, high narrative in Bayern/Barca.
2717785, Williams straight up trash, Sevilla knows what’s up
Posted by benny, Sun Aug-16-20 03:41 PM
2717787, why does Sevilla own Europa league?
Posted by smutsboy, Sun Aug-16-20 03:58 PM
it's funny
2717788, and that, my friends, is called universal balance.
Posted by PROMO, Sun Aug-16-20 04:03 PM
i get to party on the graves of my enemies.

then, my club goes out plays like shit again.
2717789, eh this changes nothing
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sun Aug-16-20 04:07 PM
We already accomplished what we were in Europa for.

What Woodward and them do in the offseason will determine how well we do next year

2717790, oh i know. it's just more fun to win.
Posted by PROMO, Sun Aug-16-20 04:20 PM
and i mean, that particular game was just shitty to watch because we lost for the same reasons we always seem to lose.

a couple defensive lapses and a lack of finishing or imagination in attack (and man, Rashford has been straight dismal the last few weeks).

but you're right. it's still about fixing the same things it was months ago.

as we know who wields the power, i'm not SUPER hopeful.
2717837, Inter-Sevilla should be a damn good game
Posted by benny, Mon Aug-17-20 03:57 PM
2718203, It's fun so far!
Posted by vik, Fri Aug-21-20 02:48 PM
Definitely should've been a red on that Lukaku penalty, though.
2717907, PSG in the final
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue Aug-18-20 02:43 PM
2717915, bruh. the game is televised on cable TV at 9pm
Posted by cgonz00cc, Tue Aug-18-20 03:20 PM
2717918, thats dumb of whoever is showing it.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue Aug-18-20 03:39 PM
2718017, your post contains literally nothing but a result
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed Aug-19-20 02:14 PM
anyone who wanted to know that already knew ot, and it had no effect other than eye-rape

cmon lol
2717922, I don't know how to process all this
Posted by benny, Tue Aug-18-20 03:56 PM
2717933, sometimes the field opens up for your path
Posted by smutsboy, Tue Aug-18-20 05:59 PM
2717942, Neymar reminding folks what time it is
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue Aug-18-20 07:50 PM
His finishing abandoned him but this is the all around fearless play we’ve come to expect. Every time he’s been healthy he’s delivered, he just had some shit injury timing
2718019, just a filthy strike from Gnabry
Posted by benny, Wed Aug-19-20 02:24 PM
tough break for Lyon, at this level you can't let up on early chances
2718020, RE: just a filthy strike from Gnabry
Posted by dagu, Wed Aug-19-20 02:34 PM
The turnaround from the shot off the post to Gnabry's goal seems to have broken their spirit.
2718021, dat German ruthlessness
Posted by benny, Wed Aug-19-20 02:58 PM
I'm feeling better about our chances on Sunday though, they're very far from tight at the back. I knew that from previous games, but while I get that was the gameplan against Barca, I didn't expect a repeat today
2718201, Inter-Sevilla turning into a barn burner, oof
Posted by benny, Fri Aug-21-20 02:40 PM
2718204, Sevilla lucky to get away with just a yellow on the opening PK nm
Posted by vik, Fri Aug-21-20 02:49 PM
2718371, playing Di Maria in a final is grounds for immediate firing
Posted by thejerseytornado, Sun Aug-23-20 02:44 PM
I've never seen a guy choke so consistently and get so many chances in a final. Wyd, psg?!?!?
2718373, ?? He's ballin, we must be watching different game
Posted by calminvasion, Sun Aug-23-20 03:03 PM
He had one miss, but that was in no way an automatic. Mbops though that was much worse.

Do Maria has been their biggest threat and making the young Canadian look shaky
2718377, right? smoking rocks. he's Barca fan tho, so...
Posted by PROMO, Sun Aug-23-20 03:28 PM
they don't really know the game.
2718379, Hasn't been great, but clearly the best of front three
Posted by calminvasion, Sun Aug-23-20 03:37 PM
Bad look for mbappe and Neymar
2718380, kinda surprised they just took Di Maria off.
Posted by PROMO, Sun Aug-23-20 03:41 PM
i mean, he's the only one on the pitch with any ideas it seems.
2718381, neymar has been...not good
Posted by dillinjah, Sun Aug-23-20 03:45 PM
2718384, Mbappe too.
Posted by PROMO, Sun Aug-23-20 03:50 PM
2718385, Mbappe had two clear-cut chances in front of goal
Posted by vik, Sun Aug-23-20 04:09 PM
One early, one late, nothing to show for it.
2718389, *I'M * not even faulting him for the chances...
Posted by PROMO, Sun Aug-23-20 04:18 PM
because like, the one is one Ander Herrera shoulda took but when passed it back Mbappe didn't expect him to not take it so he was backing away. The other chance had a bit of weirdness to it too.

I'm more speaking on like, his energy. Just seemed really low. The times when did get out in front of people on the wing he would just slow everything up and let Bayern's defense get back. It was weird.
2718421, di Maria never wins in finals
Posted by thejerseytornado, Sun Aug-23-20 07:07 PM
Just a bad luck omen. He often plays well (but usually chokes at least one big chance, at least that didnt happen but only cuz he never really got that chance). But he. Never. Wins.

Yall thought I was talking about who looked good in the game? Lol, nope. Shocked he got the start consider how often he bottles up in moments in finals. Seen it too many times with Argentina.

I do see how I wrote it unclearly, like I was talking about this game. I had just turned it on late and saw he started and posted.

2718467, right but managers choose lineups based on ability and strategy
Posted by smutsboy, Mon Aug-24-20 09:31 AM
not on narratives.

Maybe he chokes in big games, I don't know. But that's not how line ups in real life are selected.
2718474, also, he was the best player on the pitch for PSG yesterday so....
Posted by PROMO, Mon Aug-24-20 11:11 AM
*swaggy p face*
2718388, I feel like I just rewatched France-Germany from WC 2014
Posted by benny, Sun Aug-23-20 04:16 PM
Not much to say about the result. Mbappé is gonna think about that grandpa-soft shot in the first half for a while. Kinda regretting him starting the semi but hindsight is 20/20. And of course the winning goal comes from an ex-PSG player

Goddamn Manuel Neuer
2718412, Neuer was unreal
Posted by smutsboy, Sun Aug-23-20 05:58 PM
I thought Neymar wasn't awful. Mbappe offered absolutely nothing.
2718424, it’s crazy how nobody could really capitalize on bayern in the restart games
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sun Aug-23-20 07:28 PM
they gave you chances and nobody could take them
I thought psg defended well. They need to fork out some cash for that midfield

Neymar never looked comfortable today and him/Mbappe left some on the table today
But overall they played well. Just wasn’t their day

Neuer MOTM. Today he played like the lionized version of himself.

Coman has quite the impressive haul at 24. It’s always nice to see him healthy and playing. He had Kehrer on the rack

and they have a healthy Sane coming in

lol
